I didn't read your post ;)

As far as fastest CPU--maybe some of the Intel i7 CPU's--Sandy Bridge works great if you also have a graphics card

Thanks. That is what I was reading...but some of that info goes back two years so I just figured there had to be a newer one by now.

Please, everyone, resume your PC/Mac discussion, now.:)

Mac are nice for ease of use and less virus prone, but I like PCs cos they are more customisable and you can switch out stuff from different manufacturers. There seems to be a lot more freeware for PCs too. Macs were way overpriced in the beginning but they are getting a little better right now.

...but there's all kinds of Mac's and PC's. Some PC's have every upgrade/replacement optional, some have a fair amount of solid fixed parts. The same can be said about Mac's. You can also switch out a lot of hardware on Mac's from different manufacturers as well. Obviously not AMD processors but why would one want to. Saying that AMD is good price for performance and Bulldozer is due out in the next month or so.

I was a PC user before I bought Mac's. Even still to this day I still keep PC's but Mac is my primary machines. Their interface is more fluid not because it's easier or newb friendly. ¬_¬ The OS X UI is more streamlined. Since Jaguar it's been more or less the same UI just better refined graphics over the years, pinstripes faded out/removed better buttons, graphics less sticking out and cleaner. The best jump was from Tiger to Leopard. No hideous brushed metal. All apps I've used for OS X feel well made and always fits perfectly within the UI. Final Cut Pro has had a mass overhaul.

As for Microsoft, at times they don't know where the hell they've been going with their UI. It's like a guy trying out guns for the first time. Firing everywhere and never hitting the target.

Windows 2000 to XP brought Luna, hello fisher price. Another drastic change for Vista to a glass UI, Aero. Apple tried transparency with Jaguar if I remember correctly with inactive windows. It never worked well. Then nearly the whole world went mental because of the freaky change they had done to Office with the ribbon UI. Nearly everyone hated it.

Aero is still a bit of a cluster *#!%. It's not a bad interface but it's not got the elegance of Aqua. I personally can't wait for Lion. Nearly all Aqua elements are gone. Or if not already. New scrollbars, yay! \o/

Even with Aero, working around Aero doesn't really feel streamlined. It feels like a bitsy all hacked together at times but it does have it's nice moments from time to time.

:lecture

Not only that, but to do jus about anything on a PC at a deep system level (beyond control panel), you need to mess with that weird registry nonsense.

Thats really why the Windows registry will remain a cluster *#!%.

Well, as a rule people are stupid. Sort of like when people pay 1.5 times too much for a computer. :monkey3

The best value for money a while back was when Apple released the 2008 Mac Pro. Just under £2,000. Great machine.

How's it stupid though? you can't build your own Mac unless you go the Hackintosh route but that feels dirty.

I'll never buy a OEM PC ever again. It's been 10 years since I've owned one. Ever since then I've been building my own. Modding is fun.

Who does that? If anything, Mac users go through more computers, so they can keep up with the 'lastest and greatest'.

Not always. You've not read the Apple forums and other Mac forums over the years? lots of people have had their computers 3+ years but they usually always have a second Mac. It being the newest obviously.

I'm still on my Power Mac G5 from 2005. I've loved this machine since the day I first owned a Mac. It's been through a number of upgrades and has been running better since the day I got it. Still dust free. Sure it's no Intel but thats in another room.

A little of both. To be honest I wasn't savvy enough to be able to fix anything on my own (something I haven't had to do with my Mac). The third one just flat out overheated. When the tech guy told me what needed to be replaced and then showed me the partially melted parts I ended it there.

What melted? I'm guessing graphic card related or the fan packed in... You're lucky it never went on fire... if it was clogged up with dust...

That happened to my uncles computer. The fan actually burned out plus the card didn't have much breathing space due to poor airflow. The fan was also badly warped due to the heat. It was nearly solid as it was starting to melt over time. As it was one of the reasons it kept locking up on him.

Sadly the biggest con of most OEM's, they always stick in shoddy generic power supplies. That usually at some point over the years takes out your whole system. Some have gotten away with it. They advertise them with the hype of such and such XXXwatt when it's the different power through all the rails and AMPS for steady clean power you have to lookout for.

He said laptop. I don't think there is Sandybridge laptop processors yet...

I don't have a great deal of knowledge with laptop hardware.

Again, shouldn't this be changed to "Windows vs Mac"?

PC vs. MAC isn't as accurate as "Windows vs Mac", but the Mac commercials have made 'PC or Mac' the quick and easy colloquialism.

I'm not changing it. :nana:

A PC can be installed with several different operating systems besides Windows.

Since when was Mac not a Personal Computer? :slap

Another reason why Mac owners have no clue about the item they purchased. :lol

No F___ing sh__! I wonder how many times someone has posted that in this thread. :slap

Did you not ____ing see that I just said "PC or MAC" wasn't as accurate as "Windows vs Mac"?

F___ off. :wave

Clearly this thread has outlived its usefulness as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I wasn't sure yet, but I checked Newegg and they've got Sandy Bridge processors for laptops available

Really expensive, but probably the best.

The i3 and and i5 processors are good too.

:rotfl :rotfl :rotfl Typical Mac "comeback" in anything. :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Let me calmly say that every person in this thread knows that a Mac desktop is in fact a Personal Computer. Therefore, your post contributed nothing, and could only serve the purpose of trolling - which was clearly successful.

PC vs. MAC is a well known colloquialism and serves it's purpose just fine for this thread.

Technically any part of a plant that has seeds is a vegetable (cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, etc.) but colloquially "fruit" implies sweetness (strawberries, apples, etc.)

Everyone knows that tomatoes are actually a fruit, but I don't piss s__t every time someone calls them a vegetable.

He's right about the i7 :lecture

Ski recommended the i7 when I was looking for a new laptop a while back. Dont know what I would do without it. Love iT and can't recommend it enough. (Another reason why I plan on moving in with Ski in the future.)

There are dual core and quad core versions of the i7 out there too. Something to keep in mind when shopping around.

In the spirit of this thread, you should get a PC laptop with a quad i7 because after you do, you can act smug and troll mac fanboys.

Or you could get a quad i7 Macbook Pro because f__k off.
