My problem with MAC is the overpriced OS, that's my only beef with it.

Leopard cost me $120, and Snow Leopard cost me $35. How much does any copy of Windows cost???

~~I won't argue the price of the computers because I know where that'll go.

I might try messing with Linux one day, but right now I don't have the spare money for an extra computer right now. As it stands, between me and the GF we have:
15" MBP
13" Macbook --she spilled water on it and now the logic board is fried and we have to hook it up to a monitor/ TV to use it
10" Samsung NC10 (I got bored and put Snow Leopard on it back in December)
And she's planning on buying an iMac in the fall when she gets her student loan :banghead:banghead

So how much does the hardware cost total with the OS on the machine? My bad it's the hardware that is overpriced...

edit: if you have a cheap old PC, something like even a PIII it can run the Linux and be just as lightning quick. Very light OS.

Try Ubuntu, amazing.

^^That's better. I'll admit Apple overcharges for their computers, but the OS is worth it IMO. I got out of the upgrade every year game 5 years ago. $2k for a laptop that'll last me 5+ years is great for me.

:lol:lol:lol

Yeah because I can remember what I spent on items 6 to 7 years ago. Hahaha! I couldn't even tell you the exact amount I paid for my TV or car and those were both bought last year.

Damn BadMoon is balling, just throwing out G's left and right :lecture

Word.

Im running on a solar powered PC made out of matchsticks and bamboo. Your all noobs IMO :lecture

If you're the type of user where you can use a computer for 5 years without upgrading then the OS is the least of your worries

I usually give this analogy for Macs VS PCs. Think of them like cars. What's the difference between higher end luxury cars and serviceable compact cars? They both get you from point A to point B. The luxury car lets you do it in style and comfort. The drive is an experience. Same with a Mac. The user experience is much more comfortable and intuitive. The design of the OS and the hardware are equally stylish and thought-out. If you pay no importance to that in a car and are happy with a Toyota Corolla, then you'll be happy with a PC. And even with something like a Corolla, you can trick it out to your heart's content, adding spoilers, upgrading the engine, etc. But if you buy a fancy sports car, then that's pretty much it--you just enjoy the ride.

I've been using Macs for about 15 years. It's my industry standard (Graphic Design). In my last job I had to toggle between a Mac and a PC, and with just that limited exposure to the PC, I could feel how utilitarian it was. The graphics and fonts on projects simply did not look good. The interface felt heavy and dark. It made work a visual chore. If I ever got a job where they did not have Macs to do graphic work, I'd buy a Mac myself just for work and bring it in.

If you're a lifetime user of any program or OS of course your not going to like using a different program/interface.

Now, I do wonder what would happen if both OS's were suddenly released today as they are in their current state--which would be more popular?

But in any case, partly I don't want to switch OS's because I'm used to using Windows (as I'm sure most people are). Same reason I don't like Maya that much. But then it doesn't mean that Windows is a bad OS, but there's really no way to be subjective about it without being biased.

I've been using Mac since 1996, and would never think of going back to a PC...
Actually @ work I have a dual computer, and sometimes I need to use the PC... and it sucks!!
I HATE everything about Windows, MS and their horrible crap...
Mac FTW!!!!

For what it's worth - I run a Mac at work and a PC at home.

LOVE Mac for my job (graphic designer) but I don't need a $4000 tower at home to surf the web and do occasional Photoshop work so i think it depends on how much $$$ you have to lay down on a computer.

If you've got it I say go for a Mac but your life won't be any less if you get a PC. Depends on what you need it for if money is an issue.

About OS's - I adore OSX. I wish I could run it on my PC. It just flows a lot easier IMO and runs smoother than Windows if that kind of thing matters to you.

I'm not a gamer so I have zero input on that argument but I do know that changing OS platforms is not that big of a deal to get used to. I will say however that the whole "Control - Alt/Option - Command" placement on the Mac keyboard still throws my whole world into a spin at times :lol
