Just to point out--I've used a Windows PC for at least 5 years without antivirus and have never gotten a virus during that time. The people who are worried about viruses need to learn how to use the internet.

And still, a main reason I won't ever switch to Mac is because 3ds Max is Windows only, so there's really no point. Although I'd expect at some time I'll get a Mac just to have one. But luckily I'm going into video game development where Macs are sparse so it's not a big issue.

Actually, at my friend's (former) game company, all the artists used Macs for their rendering. You do know that the current Intel Macs also run Windows as well, with Boot Camp? (but it's probably better just to have one of each system, separately, unless you have a crapton of RAM) As with anything in a tech-based industry, it's best to know how to do everything on both systems (and probably Linux as well, for good measure).

That makes sense to me. Even so, my hard drive on my macbook pro died and I went to the Apple store in the mall to have it checked out. They diagnosed it and repaired it in under 45 minutes while I was having lunch across the street....but I guess it is much worse than sending an HP back and being without a computer for 2+ weeks before you get it back.

Yeah, my husband, who puts his MacBook Pro under much more stress than I put mine (rendering, tons of programs running simultaneously, etc) had a problem bad enough to take it in... ONCE ... and experienced the same quick turnaround.

Totally agree with Bam... completely worth the extra money, IMO! :chew

There's people that still use Macs for stuff like content creation, but since the actual game can only be developed on Windows, it doesn't go beyond that. Most studios use 3ds Max for game development anyways while a few use Maya.

In any case, there's no point in paying a bunch of money to buy a Mac and install Windows on it, doesn't save any money, and it's not like I have any programs to use on the Mac OS.

Yeah, it was content creation... the actual artists, not the game devs. But as chief developer, he had to run and know how to use both, as much as he hated it being an avid PC gamer since...well, forever :lol

I've used both in work environment and I'm currently having to support both on an MS network (it's not my job, but the tech guys are expensive). At this point with Windows 7, there's not a whole lot of difference between the 2 different systems although Macs are a bit more finicky when it comes to networking. I use Creative Suite 4 on a PC and it runs fine (I have a lot of RAM).

That was one great thing--until CS5 comes out, Photoshop is only available in 64-bit for Windows. I'm working on a big poster right now and since I've got 12GB of RAM in my computer with 64-Bit Photoshop it runs great.

I've got a Laptop, never used a Mac or even desired one really.
I'm not into video games/gaming or photoshopping or anything like that.
I just stick with what I know, and thats Laptops cos all I use it for is online shopping, email, here etc.
...but thats just me
x :peace

How much did you pay for that Mac vs how much you paid for your PCs that supposedly had problems within "a week or two" of buying it? Point proven.

I win.

Oh I dumped about 2,000 or more in about 3 PC's over a 5 year period. Will my iMac last 5? we will see. I paid $1100 for it and have 3 and a half to go. :rock

3 PCs totaling ONLY $2000??? So that's an average cost of $667 per PC. I'd say youre a CHEAPO when you buy your PC. Your freakin $1100 Mac BETTER run better than a cheap ass $667 PC. LOL :lol FAIL

I spent $3000 on my PC custom built and have only run into ONE problem ever in the 5 years that I've had it. The hard drive burnt out and I had to replace it for a whopping $150 :horror:rotfl:rotfl

So you spent $3000 for a PC to do what a Mac can do at $1100. :dunno :lol

My PC could probably still burn your Mac to shreds dear sir.

I like how you avoided any logical rebuttal about buying a cheap ass PC and expecting it to perform like a $1100 Mac. :lol

Isn't this MS' main selling point in all of their anti-Mac commercials??? As well as the main argument of every Windows based computer?? How much cheaper it is in comparison to a Mac??

I never said I spent that little. You missed the "or more". I have no idea of the EXACT amount spent on PC's. That's neither here nor there. Bottom line is my iMac does exactly what I need it to do. Work, run the internet, and whatever tasks I need to do. No maintenance, no viruses, nothing. As I said it just works. That's whats important to me. So it really doesn't matter. :lol

I don't know, i honestly dont care about the advertisements. I spend money for a quality product and i GET a quality product. I dont pay $600 and expect it to be invulnerable.

Like they say, you get what you pay for.

I dont buy that for a second. Anyone having so much stress and trouble with something should and would know how much they spent on it....

Yeah because I can remember what I spent on items 6 to 7 years ago. Hahaha! I couldn't even tell you the exact amount I paid for my TV or car and those were both bought last year.

mac.............FTW !!!!!!!!

i.b.t.l.

That's about the only way I'll agree.

No spyware either? Have you ever had to defrag and spend hours "cleaning" things up?

You can schedule a automatic defrag to take place at 3:00 a.m. or some ridiculous time that you are not on the PC. Takes care of you sitting there for hours or minutes, waiting to use your PC.
