Re: New PC

I can't remember where I read it, but there was an article talking about how SSDs were reaching a point where they couldn't go any faster or get any bigger without slowing down.

The gist of the article was that SSDs weren't all they were cracked up to be. It was more of an editorial than an article, but it was an interesting thought, but me being ignorant to SSDs in general, I couldn't make a judgment on it.

Well as long as they can go to about 200GB without slowing down it would still be more than enough for a boot drive.

Re: New PC

Hell you could go smaller than that if your using it just for a boot drive

That's my point, right now I have a 75GB HDD and it's 'just' fine but considering future and more bigger OS...

Re: New PC

Ok I can read about the other components of building a PC and decide but can someone suggest a few motherboards? There are way too many choices and variables. I don't want the #1 best or anything but want to be able to use the motherboard and upgrade for a good while rather than build another PC. Will use Intel processor. Any suggestions?

Re: New PC

Well, I'd suggest looking for an Asus board. I built my previous system around an Asus motherboard. From what I had read it was really the way to go.

Re: New PC

Yeah I built a PC from scratch in June and used an Asus Z77 Sabertooth motherboard. No problems from my machine at all.

Re: New PC

you should check the various review websites for consensus and the good ones. I haven't checked new hardware in 4 years but the usual suspects (Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, ABIT....) should be fine.

Re: New PC

Thanks guys, that narrows it down.

I was looking at the Asus z77 Sabertooth and the P8277-V one, trying to figure out which is "better".

EDIT: Dang it, now I noticed the Gigabyte Intel Z77 Dual Thunderbolt ATX Motherboard with BT4.0/Wi-Fi

EDIT EDIT: Pretty much decided on Sabertooth.

Using the one in my current pc...AMD Radeon 6570....will be next thing to replace on the list though. It is going to take some research and I wanted to build the base of the system first.

Re: New PC

I have the case and the motherboard; Amazon didn't ship the processor and SSD when they were supposed to so that'll arrive tomorrow. Spent most of the day staring at the wires in the case and also the motherboard plugs and reading both manuals and was lost for most of the day but think I have it figured out and feel good about it. I'll start putting her together this week. Will only have 8 GB RAM, a 650 Watt power supply and the graphics card that I am taking out of my current PC and putting in the new rig until I replace those parts but I'm just happy to start putting her together and I'll have the new SSD, processor, motherboard and case. I did put all the fans on the motherboard and case today though.

I think I've decided on getting the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 Graphics card. Any thoughts on that?

Re: New PC

I am thinking either Witcher 1 or Guild Wars 2?

Thoughts?
