Re: New PC

If you like RTS's forsure Starcraft 2. Especially with the new xpac coming out in a couple of weeks. Since this thread really isn't about my computer anymore figured I would make the title something else. Figured we could have this thread for any PC talk not just games, but parts, programs etc.

Re: New PC

hey all - finally got a decent computer that should handle most games....so for a PC noob like me, what's the ONE game I should immediately play?

I am thinking either Witcher 1 or Guild Wars 2?

Thoughts?

If you like shooters like Battlefield, check out Planetside 2. It's really good and it's free.

Skyrim. With all the mods, higher res, frame rate etc it's practically a PC exclusive.

Torchlight 2 is awesome if you're into dungeon crawlers.

I'd also recommend Company of Heroes. It's an incredible WWII rts. The best I've ever played. Part 2 is coming out real soon.

Yeah Company of Heroes is a really good RTS and I completely agree with Torchlight 2. Easily one of the best dungeon crawlers to date.

It really depends what you're int he mood for.
I just finished Witcher 1 recently and it's awesome. Fairly traditional western PC RPG but with great writing, great characters and just a great game.

Guild Wars 2 is an MMO so you have to like those kinds of games also. I played it for a bit a launch and it's a very polished MMO with several new ideas that some could say are game changers in the MMO genre. Plus it's F2P so the investment is the same as a regular game.

But both those games are basically RPGs. If you like classic Adventure games, FPS, RTS, TBS and so on there are many other options.
You could try XCOM, Deponia, Portal 2, Rage, Gray Matter, Diablo 3, StarCraft 2, Metro.....

hey all - question on monitor settings; I have a AOC F22 - a decent, inexpensive monitor, but the color settings have basically a red, blue, and green bar from 0 to 100 -

I know some may just adjust until it looks good but any guidelines to start with...while the color looks ok to me, I suspect I may be wildly off

If you feel the color might be off a bit then just play with hues until you're satisfied but it can be a bit of a tumbling hole where you barely remember what it's supposed to look like in the end.

Thanks; pretty much what I did - looks ok. Its a pretty basic monitor so not expecting too much out of it

Decided to go with the 680 over the 7970 I think.

Any opinion on which manufacturer is the best to go with on the GTX680? I've read reviews and forums but it seems to be between the ASUS, EVGA and MSI ones....I really would like the quietest yet efficient one.

Honestly any of those 3 brands you can't go wrong. I prefer EVGA out of those but that is because Ive had good luck with that brand.

I currently have an MSI and I'm very satisfied.
FYI, it's completely isolated of course but I previously had an EVGA 8800 GTS and it ended up overheating and giving me artifacts so I had to change it.

I was looking at this one but the free games with the AMD/ATI 7970's is tempting.

I bought their overclocked 560Ti TwinFrozr when it first came out and have been happy with it but I should upgrade it sometime this year again.

My brother just bought a MSI 660 about a month ago and is loving it so far with no problems. MSI I know gets alot of praise.
