I think i'm the only one on this board excited that Penelope Cruz is in this film... :lol :(

:lol

You had me nervous, but i'm glad you don't dislike her. I think she'll be phenom, and like you said she already has the Spanish accent so thats a major plus.

I don't care either way about her casting, but I also don't care about the character simply because she's cast for it, I need to see what the character's about and everything to get excited about the idea.

what i didnt like about a girl like keria being on board with all these pirates is how unrealistic it was, especially keria's speech as "pirate king" before the battle. in real life, all those pirates would rape her and then kill her, and then fight the battle anyway.

I actually think she'll be a better fit for the Pirates world that Keira was. Don't get me wrong I love Keira and would do my best to snap a headboard if given the opportunity but I think that Cruz's flair will be a great fit for Sparrow.

I'm always split on this. I can never definitively say whether or not I find Penelope Cruz attractive or not. Sometimes I see her in films or on TV and think she is a beautiful woman, I'd like to slam that so hard that people nearby will think that I'm opening and slamming doors over and over again in my house with the force her head to bounce off of the headboard....and other times I think she kind of looks like a horse with an annoying voice....I'm split.

HAHAHAHA :lol

i guess i feel the same way, shes really not my type though. just like how i cant STAND scarlett johanssen. shes so plain and looks like a wet rat at times. she better not muck up ironman 2. even dunst looks better then her, but i guess that would be the lesser of 2 evils.

Agreed, but I think it's safe to say that Pirates in general are dramatically muted for a more audience friendly depiction. Would real pirates have done horrible things with her, yes, but you'd have a hard sell for a movie depicting that. Hell, I think Sparrow would have been run through or shot instead of being handled as he was. Within the context of what pirates are like in these movies, I think Elizabeth's actions and circumstances work fine, they hinted at her about to get raped in Curse, that was enough, and as she grew as a character she showed more balls against people than many of the men. Plus, if the pirates were truly slave to a code, then her being king by that code would stop them from doing anything to her.

Quote of the day. :lol

:horror Now you're just being crazy. :lol

I thought it was hilarious that the casting call went out specifically banning any extras with boob jobs. :lol

Well of course... how many implants did they have in pirate times? :) And who gets the job of checking to see if the girls are lying or not?

Well a lot of dresses in that time period acted like push up bras so you might not notice the difference really, look at the wenches at Tortuga.

A western but still, it should give an idea of what she would look like.... :monkey5

That's a fact.

As for the pirates being unrealistic, this isn't a naturalistic depiction of pirate life. It's pure romanticism, and was from square one. I think the next one might be grittier, but I doubt it will be any less idealized.

Indeed, Curse was a big deal because it was the first PG-13 film Disney ever released.

The films need to be kid friendly because there's 2 sources for cash out of them for Disney, one being ticket, DVD and merchandising sales from the movie, and the other being the lure to visit the theme parks and see the POTC ride. POTC movies will always be a nicer look at piracy. Perhaps someday, some studio will do a pirate film free of the Disney label and give a more realistic portrayal.

I think she is going to be fantastic in this movie. I think she will make a much more believable pirate than Elizabeth did.

From what I have heard most pirates weren't the kill everyone in their path bloodsuckers that everyone thinks they are. Most of them would rather scare than kill to get their goods and they were pretty dang good to their shipmates with everything being voted on and they had a form of workers comp and all goods being divided equal.
