Ugh! :horror Don't say that! next you'll be praising Michael Bay's genius storytelling.

Bay has technical skills that Marshall could only dream of having. He just makes shallow "event" pictures. If Bay were given a solid script I bet he could actually make a great film. (See the other thread I just created about him & James Cameron and their thoughts on digital filmmaking. Bay's films may leave a lot to be desired so far, but he sounds like he gets it)

Well Will Smith just bought the rights to put his daughter in as Annie so that joke isn't really as farfetched as you think.

Oh no... :slap Another Smith phenom.

Well, regardless of Smith, if the same group that likes to get behind each other gets behind this one it will have a chance to score Best Picture just like Chicago -- deserved or not.

What is strange though is that I just read an article that Disney is happy with it and looking to film 5 & 6 similar to 2& 3.

l knew this would happen. l heard a long time ago Bruckheimer was planning on more. obviously Depp will be done with this character now l am sure. the producers are dumb enough to think the series can continue and make money without Depp.

IF he "gets it" then what the hell is he waiting for? He's had two decades to make a really great film.

I think he has a short attention span and gets board easily and keeps cramming stuff in and keeps editing the cuts quicker until what you have is something only a 9 year old can keep up with because its all visuals and noise.

I'd really like to know what movies Bay actually watches when he wants to enjoy a movie.

Sommers is among the most "elite" of the hacks, for sure. But at least he can direct a somewhat engaging action sequence (which Marshall seems utterly incapable of).

I don't care what you say, that first Mummy movie was fantastic! Great action, great humor, I loved it!

The first MUMMY film isn't horrible or great. It's an above-average action flick. Sommers is pretty terrible, though. Definitely deserves to be mentioned among the likes of Ratner, McG, and now Marshall.

I enjoy the hell out of it. Its one of the movies Ive watched the most over the years. The only one in the series that is kind of bleh is the last one but the series itself is fun as hell.

He gets it. You dont.

He makes event movies. That's what he does. He doesnt go out and make something with a great story, and amazing ____...and then have it turn up as Bad Boys or Transformers (same movies too). He makes what he makes, and they are what they are.

That hardly makes him a "genius".

This is like calling Papa John a gourmet chef. :lol

Bay is a director you can't take seriously. you know going in it will be a forgetable movie. if we cant take him seriously then he is no genius. end of story. also his movies don't win Oscars they win Razy awards.:lol

I dont know...I still remember, and watch The Rock, Transformers, and Bad Boys pretty often.....those are some of his best.

We are talking about the difference between movies and cinema. One is for enjoyment, and one is art. Sometimes the lines between each are crossed.

There's plenty of examples of great "event" movies. Event movies have been around since "Jaws". When people generally talk about great event movies, they generally don't talk about Bay (unless its as an example of a bad event movie).

I'm not sure what he gets that I don't. It's not hard to recognize a good movie from a poor one. He has all the time and money he wants to make a "good" movie and yet it just seems to allude him...or he just likes what he makes. Can't fault him for that.

If you mean by "he gets it" that he knows how to deliver a movie that will make money, then OK, yeah, he gets that. But he could be making a lot more money if his films were more universally enjoyed and had a longevity that many classic "event films" have.
