It was an ehhhh movie. To say the least. Jack and Barbossa are the only good stuff.

Everyone else was just so....bland. The entire final battle....even if you hated AWE, you will beg for a Malstrom.

I'll check it out this afternoon but critics and fans a like are not impressed, I won't go with high expectations.

A shame after Thor the next two weeks worth of films appear meh.

I'm still going to see it but I guess I can at least skip the 3D version... nobody saying thats worth it.

Here are my thoughts in spoilers after getting back at a midnight showing.

Jack is Jack and overall he gives a solid performance with his usual thing in these movies and that helps in a lot of areas. Was nice to see Gibbs in the movie but we did not get enough of him and for me he's one of the characters I've enjoyed the most. It was hard to get anything going with his character this time because he wasn't around much. Cruz as Angelica worked in parts but overall her character wasn't that great. I think some of it was her being pregnant at the time which I think killed them from using her more for action stuff. You could also tell that she was pregnant by her walk and when they would switch to a stunt double (I believe her sister) because they were much thinner. Barbossa I liked for half the film or so. When you first see him he sucks and just comes across flat. When we get to the location of the fountain the old Barbossa comes back to life which again helps make things go for the better.

The character that disappointed me the most though was Black Beard. His character in the movie to be honest sucked. I just did not think there was any fear coming from his character. I mean in real life this was the nastiest pirate of all time and truly the pirate that pirates feared. I didn't get that at all. The character was flat and had no life. Then you've got the religious kid and the mermaid which I could have given a rats ass less about to be honest. You're supposed to care about these two but other than my own reasons for not wishing harm on anyone I didn't feel a connection. This movie missed the two dip____ pirates that had to dress in drag in Curse Of The Black Pearl as well.

Setting wise I'd agree with Carl you just never felt like you were really in a big world like in the past. What we did see was neat but nothing on the scale of the past movies. Story wise was alright. Not great but not Angle Lee Hulk either. Probably the weakest of the four so far I'd have to say. The 3D in the movie was average I thought for the most part. Seen better and seen worst.

Overall, I'd say the movie was a 6.5/10. They're different movies I know but after seeing Thor this one just left me going it was nice but not Thor. I don't know how the rest of the summer movie season but right now I could see this movie being at the bottom of the movies I see. Still got GL, Cap, Transformers 3, HP 7 pt 2, Cowboys and Aliens, and hell if I wanted the 3 EE of LOTR.

Will I get it when it comes out on Blu? Yeah, I enjoyed it enough and I have the others so I'll want to have all 4. Do I hope they make another? Sure, they need to go back to the recipe that made for me the first 3 better than this.

Totally agree with you about Blackbeard - he was DULL and not in the least bit intimidating or freightening - even Davy Jones in the last two was scarier - he killed without remorse and struck fear into his shipmates- I recall he simply says "to the depth's" and a man get's his throat slit and thrown overboard - I like that apprehension in a villain you're constantly thinking or worrying about what or who he may kill next. Blackbeard had none of that.

With regards to Barbossa - I thought the twist at the end was brilliant and loved seeing him back in his pirate gear!

I just returned from the movie. Unfortunately, I have to agree with most of the reviews.

Jack and Barbarossa routine is getting old, the action seemed forced / staged (something) and the characters meh.

On the good side, Depp was Jack, the story was easy to follow and mermaids piece was cool. 6 / 10......

Yeah, blackbeard just didn't hit as hard as Davy Jones and thats a shame. Blackbeard is the baddest man on the seas.

Agreed him switching at the end was pretty damn cool.

I just read where the ones seeing it in 3D are suppose to see the Transformers 3D trailer. Anyone see that?

Saw the movie and enjoyed; its my least fav in the series and for one pretty big detail: all the cool character actors that played much of the Black Peal crew are (obviously) not in the movie, and missed seeing a lot of familiar faces

Mermaids were best part of the movie. After getting the undead in part 1, and Davey Jones's crew in 2, and 3, there was a 'cool' factor missing here. Mermaids helped that a bit, but too little too late

Speaking on the GL trailer, the Cg didnt seem as obvious with the 3d trailer as the 2d. Not sure if a little darker cause of the glasses, but it looks pretty great

8/10

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull this is not.

Marshall struggles to find his footing during the opening in england. After that you can tell he's quickly becoming more comfortable. Enjoyed the story, loved Barbossa and Blackbeard. Depp was fine, as was his performance. Half cooked action? What have these people been eating? No. Just no.

The dynamic is definately differant with Jack as the main character rather then in the backround as others pointed out, but not really in a bad way. Phillip and Syrena, I'll take over that god awful BS Kiera Knightly speech from AWE and Will's love story anyday of the week. There was only one moment of ok, put your shirt on already, but it was literally in one shot. Oh and their story is brief intertwined into the rest of the movie, a minute here and there, not just 20 minutes of I love you and god, yay.

Spanish were used just fine.

All I can say is wow, insane amount of haters and these critics can suck a fat juicy ____.

Better then 3 on par with 2, but not as over the top. Equally enjoyable and a fine addition to the franchise. I happily await part 5.
