We are talking about the difference between movies and cinema. One is for enjoyment, and one is art. Sometimes the lines between each are crossed.

:goodpost:

AND it's all subjective anyways. People go to the theatre or watch a flick for different reasons. Some to be challenged, some to escape, and some to just watch ____ blow up.

I dont know...I still remember, and watch The Rock, Transformers, and Bad Boys pretty often.....those are some of his best.
:exactly:

I'm a fan of the Island myself. :)

I see movies for all of those reasons. I'll go to see a Bay flick, to watch ____ get destroyed, and have a great time...then i'll go see a Nolan flick, which mght challange me in ways, and then i'll head over to The King's Speech, and watch a great, but simple story.

I dont like one genre, and I dont watch one type of movie.

Me too. But everyone hates that, so I didnt put it in my list. :dunno

I enjoy the hell out of it. Its one of the movies Ive watched the most over the years. The only one in the series that is kind of bleh is the last one but the series itself is fun as hell.

What ruined the last one was the actress who played his wife. She was AWFUL!

I'd amend this statement to add that Fraser is one of the worst actors to ever grace a screen. If he and Hayden Christensen made a film together the world might spontaneously combust.

That had me laughing out loud. Yeah, he can be still and awkward, but I think that The Mummy was just right for him and it just.... worked somehow.

Hayden Christensen... wow, totally awful... I think the only reason Lucas cast him was that he has that evil eye thing where he could play the darker part of Anakin... That's about it. He didn't pull off any of his scenes, especially the critical Mustafar one.... "you betrayed meeeee!"

But.... I digress...

How about that Geoffrey Rush! LOL

I maintain Lucas had a thing for Hayden. Only reason he could have possibly thought that he was a talented actor.

As for the Mummy, get real, the sequels right off hand are worse, movies like Evolution, the SW Prequels, Baseketball, Celtic Pride, all far far worse.

Going to see Pirates tommorow at noon a bit too tired to goto the midnight showing.

Here are my thoughts in spoilers after getting back at a midnight showing.

Jack is Jack and overall he gives a solid performance with his usual thing in these movies and that helps in a lot of areas. Was nice to see Gibbs in the movie but we did not get enough of him and for me he's one of the characters I've enjoyed the most. It was hard to get anything going with his character this time because he wasn't around much. Cruz as Angelica worked in parts but overall her character wasn't that great. I think some of it was her being pregnant at the time which I think killed them from using her more for action stuff. You could also tell that she was pregnant by her walk and when they would switch to a stunt double (I believe her sister) because they were much thinner. Barbossa I liked for half the film or so. When you first see him he sucks and just comes across flat. When we get to the location of the fountain the old Barbossa comes back to life which again helps make things go for the better.

The character that disappointed me the most though was Black Beard. His character in the movie to be honest sucked. I just did not think there was any fear coming from his character. I mean in real life this was the nastiest pirate of all time and truly the pirate that pirates feared. I didn't get that at all. The character was flat and had no life. Then you've got the religious kid and the mermaid which I could have given a rats ass less about to be honest. You're supposed to care about these two but other than my own reasons for not wishing harm on anyone I didn't feel a connection. This movie missed the two dip____ pirates that had to dress in drag in Curse Of The Black Pearl as well.

Setting wise I'd agree with Carl you just never felt like you were really in a big world like in the past. What we did see was neat but nothing on the scale of the past movies. Story wise was alright. Not great but not Angle Lee Hulk either. Probably the weakest of the four so far I'd have to say. The 3D in the movie was average I thought for the most part. Seen better and seen worst.

Overall, I'd say the movie was a 6.5/10. They're different movies I know but after seeing Thor this one just left me going it was nice but not Thor. I don't know how the rest of the summer movie season but right now I could see this movie being at the bottom of the movies I see. Still got GL, Cap, Transformers 3, HP 7 pt 2, Cowboys and Aliens, and hell if I wanted the 3 EE of LOTR.

Will I get it when it comes out on Blu? Yeah, I enjoyed it enough and I have the others so I'll want to have all 4. Do I hope they make another? Sure, they need to go back to the recipe that made for me the first 3 better than this.
