That part was hilarious.

I haven't had a chance to really write up my thoughts and I think I may come off as not liking the movie, everything besides Jack was really enjoyable and definitely touched on what makes the pirate movies unique. Had the story allowed for all of Jack's personality traits this might rank high for me in the franchise.

I didn't even mind Jack drinking through his depression at the beginning, but I would have expected once the plot unfolded to get some of that classic Jack playing everyone around him as a means to his end. The stakes here were a lot like Dead Man's Chest, but where that movie started with Jack running and then flipped to hatching a scheme, this one had him basically running the whole time and Carina was really the one to resolve the whole matter.

Agreed, I felt Salazaar fit in perfectly with the level of villain that Barboss was in curse and Davy Jones was. I think Bardeem was able to bring the same villain qualities that made him enjoyable in Skyfall to this role and it worked great. Looking back at Blackbeard, they really wasted him as a villain, if McShane weren't so good an actor, it would have been awful but he at least saved the character from being a total disaster. The writers expected you to fear him as much as Barbossa or Jones but they never really had him do anything to be feared for. Salazaar was a lot like Davy Jones with his utter lack of remorse and killing people just to make a point, like killing off crew one by one til he got what he wanted.

Always thought the problem w. IMO a rather dull OST Blackbeard was that LOL supposedly that's historically accurate I guess - e.g. the real Blackbeard was reported to be thoughtful, intelligent - he did PR stuff like the lit fuses in his hair but he wasn't a rip-roaring type guy. Problem for me was, I EXPECTED to have a roaring, scenery chewing Blackbeard even if that wasn't "real". Remember one critic wrote that the Spanish guy at the beginning of OST exuded more menace than Blackbeard did the entire film.

But - at least I loved Jack and Barbossa in OST.

And Salazaar I thought was a strong presence in POTC 5, so was real happy with him.

Was a fitting finale for Jack- really good- some parts abit forced but overall satisfying. Wonder how it's doing at box office?

Hopefully we can make this the SPOILER thread soon.

Yeah, I didn't want to give too much away in the pro or con department, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's uneven, has a nonsensical story (as most of these do), has a different "focus" in the end than is expected, and leaves a lot to humor, but I haven't enjoyed a Pirates movie this much since DMC.

I was hooked with the guillotine bit -- just that crazy shot alone (even if they did overuse it).

I feel like this movie and Guardians and the upcoming Spider-Man homecoming are playing on this whole parent-child theme for 2017. The main focus of this story was relationships between fathers and children, just like Guardians and Spider-Man is even crafting a father-son thing between Stark and Peter.

MCU has been doing that from the start. But yes, its heavy and front-and-center this summer.

Same with Albinos: Albino Alien, Albino Pirate, Albino Predator next....

BO is doing well, actually - EXCEPT for the fact that BO has become a spectator sport so:

While Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales topped the box office in its domestic debut, its estimated three-day weekend earnings of $62.2 million make it the second-lowest debut in the history of the franchise.

The film is projected to make approximately $76 million over the four-day weekend, which includes estimated earnings up through Memorial Day. While the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise's performance has been waning domestically, the series has grown in popularity overseas.

E.g. it's #1 this weekend domestically but that's not good enough:cuckoo:

I hope word-of-mouth gives this decent legs. I'm a POTC fan but a bad movie is a bad movie:horror, and this was a very good movie! Deserves better than many - not all - critics say, no matter what flaws it has.

its funny how after COTBP, people/critc's said the rest of the franchise movies were ****!! I disagree. The POTC franchise is a guilty pleasure for me and I have enjoyed every instalment!! DMTNT is another great addition to this franchise and I look forward to repeat viewings on blu ray!! I was waiting for "Pintel and Ragetti" which would have put it over the top for me. Kind of wish they did not come that close to Barbossa's "strings"!! I enjoyed his character being just there for the ride and not have to worry about this outcome!!

Totally agree. Love the oceans and ocean folklore anyway and these films are crammed with nods to history and sea lore, great casts, costumes and characters. Wouldn't give any of them up - some wonderful music too. Gets me po'd when these critics snark on Depp and 5, 7, 9 years from now he'll be elected for some lifetime award and what a genius he is blah blah. Not to mention the times he's visited kids and made donations.

Best story I read was re POTC1 - that a man was tending his wife with Alzheimer's and she was depressed, withdrawn. But he said she saw Jack Sparrow and laughed and laughed, just seeing him. The man was so grateful for the character who made his wife laugh.

Anyway really looking forward to owning this.:love

Saw this again tonight with friends. I love the movie (favorite after Dead Man's Chest) but man that wedding scene is bad. Is there any context for it in a previous movie? Heck, even a novel? :lol

I can't help but think of how nice this will look on Blu Ray hnnng.

That's an awesome story btw Sassafras.

Considering the tease in the after credits stinger. I will be incredibly sad if there isn't a follow up utilizing what was teased.

One thing I really liked setting Salazaar's crew apart from Barbossa's dead crew was how they were ghosts of what remained of their bodies at the time of death, missing pieces of their body and such.

This is the order I find myself watching the Pirates movies. I enjoy each one but watched in this order for reasons…..

OST –I want a Pirates fix without having to go throughout character origins or committing to a two part adventure!!
DMC & AWE – Only if I have time to commit to the two part adventure
COTBP – love the movie but not in the mood for character beginnings

SIDE NOTE – Davy Jones still looks fantastic to this day!! Amazing
If you like soundtracks “AT WORLDS END” is a 10 out of 10

Re the wedding I gotta look up the brother's name - maybe a connection to the sea or other:dunno LOL Jack having a shotgun wedding:rotfl

Thank you re the story:) - I remembered that one 'coz we have the disease in our family:(. I liked how the man said his wife laughed and laughed. I could see it. Jack Sparrow makes me smile too, just looking at him:cool:. (May have been Depp himself talking about it in an article about the time of POTC1, and the response to Jack Sparrow). I'll try to dig the article up - maybe it was the Time magazine cover article from back then.

I'm real glad I saw this film twice IMO it's definitely one I could watch over and over.

IMO one of the things I liked about this film - things were thought through. Stuff from previous films flowed naturally into this one, and at the same time Salazaar and crew, as ghosts go, were IMO a pretty original treatment. Not a rehash of the skeletons or DJ. Someone CARED.

I like Salazaar's hair floating around like he was still under water - I want an HT!!!!
