Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It's not the serious expression that was the problem for me, it's two things: 01) he looks out of it (kind of high, actually), as The Craw said, and especially 02) the skin was way too dark on mine.

The V1 sculpt works as much of the poster art has a more serious expression.

But the V2 smilin' and cannibal capture the essence of the character better -- the expressions we remember as being more in keeping with Jack's personality.

But yes, ultimately the smilin' Jack works best for most every pose, even fighting with swagger against Davy.

I would have used the v1 head for a second Jack sans coat and hat -- as he appeared in most of the fight sequences in Curse and DMC -- if that cannibal sculpt wasn't so damn fun...that, and the cannibal headdress that comes with it.

*FAINTS*

I am heaven. I took out Cannibal Jack... best 1/6 scale figure ever. Oh man, what a toy!

Must... *faints again*

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Quite honestly, I like all 3 Jack portraits, and I don't agree with the smirk being most representative of him, I think it captures one of his more memorable attributes, but truly, the great aspect of the character was the range of emotion and expression, smirks, frowns, stern, shock, you almost never knew what face you'd get next. While V1 is dominantly promo image based, he had his serious moments and it still works. I want at least another Jack figure just for a chance to get another head or two and get some more expressions, can't have enough. I really wish the people who got stuck with the overly dark V1 Jack's didn't because it's such a nice figure and portrait, stinks to see it get a bad rap cuz of some production inconsistency, but that's how it goes sometimes. As long as Hot Toys keeps making Jack Sparrows, I'll buy them all.

So far, I like the Cannibal Jack more, but now I have him in hand, I'll get the others. Need to figure out how his accessories go on now. Getting some help from MaulFan, so I'll report shortly there after Cap!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

We are due some new pictures in this thread.

I've got some plans for some new pieces unlike anything I've done before :) I just hope the execution turns out as nice as my mental pictures :lol

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

As I'm known to pester people, I shall continue with my time-honored tradition here (ahem) - Don't forget more LOTR pics Sean! :lol

 There, I've said it. Now let's hear more about Jack, Eli; you seem as excited for this figure as I am for mine, which tells me a) you are extremely happy and are beyond thrilled with him, and b) you are kind of crazy right now and should take some deep breaths. :lol

I'm so glad you finally have him!

Thanks bro, and it's a big DUH to both a) and b)! :)

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Any pics Sean will post will be well worth it.
Do you think we'll get a POTC announcement at SDCC?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Do you think we'll get a POTC announcement at SDCC?

I'm not sure what to think of that. If memory serves, Hot Toys' presence at SDCC comes via the Sideshow booth since they've pretty much sold everything HT's ever done the last few years. As far as things to represent them at the Con, if HT is only at the Sideshow booth again, TDK is out, which seems a shame, it'd be cool for con goers to see the Tumbler and all, but that's how it is, so that's one big line they're pushing right now that won't be represented. Of what's how, here's what I think is guaranteed on display there.

ALIEN - Kane
ALIEN - Dallas
PREDATOR - Dutch
PREDATOR - Billy
Current Military Figure

Possible pieces that were held back for the show.

IRON MAN - Iron Man
ALIEN - Alien Warrior
PREDATOR - Predator
RAMBO - John Rambo as seen in RAMBO
Incredible Hulk License Announcement

That alone is a healthy representation of the company, and if it's up to SSC, we may see the existing pirate figures on display, especially ones they're still selling.

I'm not feeling a high confidence level anymore of POTC at the Con, they tend to do 2-3 figures at a time, and that could overshadow some of the new lines, so they may opt to release more POTC in the fall.

Whatever the case, I do think we'll see more and hope to see it soon, and in addition to Barbossa and other 1/6 figures, having my Rambo bust makes me hope they do some POTC 1/4 busts, at least Jack Sparrow if no one else, that'd be a cool piece to have.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Is this something you are hoping they have? A rumor?

It's a hoping for, all the stuff in that section I listed off are things that haven't been seen or confirmed yet, just hopefull things, only the first section are concrete.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm hopeful for at least 1 POTC announcement at the SDCC!
Please make it happen!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

With all of the Batman and Iron Man stuff shown today, I'm surprised we didn't see a Barbossa!

I think they want to push the new lines and not detract from that. No one's going to overlook Iron Man or TDK for POTC, but still, it's in their best business interest to just feed the cravings of the summer movie crowd now.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'd rather see a new POTC figure than an Iron Man(didn't see the movie) or a Dark Knight figure(I have the DCD figures)
I won't hold my breath though.
