Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think I might order the Cannibal version. Quick question, I know it comes with the second head (the smiling version). Does, it come with his black hat as well?

No hat and no coat, everything else is the same as the first figure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ugh. I really prefer him wearing the hat.

Which one do you recommend as a first purchase Sean? The Cannibal Jack or the original?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Here's my take. The cannibal head, while probably one of the most life-like and true 1/6 portraits I've ever seen, has posed eyes and the makeup and unless you're obsessed with that look, can lose its luster after a bit. The smiling head feels more like Jack Sparrow, but the first figure encompasses Jack's total look better. I'd get the first release with coat and hat, then save for the Cannibal figure or get the smile head off eBay if that's what you care about most.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks Sean. I may do that. I appreciate your insight, as I really respect your opinion on these figures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, I hope I don't misguide you :lol I'm a sparrow nut so I'll buy any HT Jack, but trying to put myself in a more selective position, I'd take the approach I just gave you.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Which do you prefer, the PotC line or the Dark Knight line?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Which do you prefer, the PotC line or the Dark Knight line?

Well, for 2 reasons about myself, the Dark Knight line. The first reason is I get more enjoyment out of darker things, and POTC is more about heroes, with the exception of Davy Jones. The second reason is I'm kinda weird and go through cycles where I'm really into something, then maybe not care for it too much for a while then get really into it again. I'm at a peak of TDK and a lull of POTC enjoyment right now. The POTC line is fantastic, great figures from the films, Elizabeth is the only one with significant shortcomings but they can be ignored, Davy's a marvel, love him. I really like both lines. As far as quality of the figures in them, I'd say they're pretty equal, so it really comes down to your feelings towards the movies themselves which one you'll enjoy more. If you're a fan of Batman or POTC, you'll enjoy each line.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just got an email from SSC saying my waitlist for Cannibal Jack converted. I don't want it anymore so hopefully someone here will get him.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The v.1 Jack with v.2's smiling sculpt is the definitive Jack figure. It's costly as hell, but luckily I ditched my Cannibal Jack with the v.1 sculpt included while he was still relatively hot, so I didn't take much of a hit.

BTW---is this line dead?

Davy Jones killed it, didn't he? Bastard...

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If POTC 4 weren't coming out, I'd say the line's dead. For the most part, HT seems big on doing figures for properties while they're fresh in minds and hot. POTC's cooled off now with AWE having come out over a year ago. However, my hope is the 4th one gets enough hype, HT sees it worth continuing this line and they deliver more figures for it

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Finally compiled ALL the parts I need to make both a DMC Will Turner & Elizabeth Swann!

Been searching forever, obsessed, and holding out for a good price on some hard-to-find bits. Got very lucky with a very kind ebayer. Yes, they are out there.

All I need is the HT Eliz body with sculpt... and just an HT body for Will.

Once I get those -- although the HT Swann body may take awhile -- I can finally have the two versions of these characters I've always wanted.

I'll post pics of the outfit parts once I have them in-hand in case anyone has an interest in doing the same.

Pirates lives on! :rock

Hey Wor-Gar, any updates on this? I just grabbed the Tonner Elizabeth "High-Seas" pirate outfit to swap onto my AWE Hot Toys version, since I'm not digging her in the Asian inspired attire.

I want to display Jack, Will and Swann in pirates gear. Figure I can part out my Medicom RAH Jack for the boots and hat (and maybe shirt) to go on pirate Swann mixed with the Tonner jacket, vest and pants. We'll see how it works out...

:D

Um, hope you didn't pay too much for the Tonner, I believe they're larger than 12" and Elizabeth's about 10-11" tall from Hot Toys, very petite, and as for the boot swap, I haven't taken them off, but I believe there are no feet to the HT figure, just joints that plug into the boot, so you might need to find HT female feet to wear the Medicom boots if having them on footless won't support her.

Thanks for the heads-up MaulFan. I guess I'll have to see how it looks together to know if it will work or require a little (ahem) tailoring. Guess I'll have to look for some female feet too.

Or...

Is the HT Ripley female body any bigger than the HT Swann body? I'll compare at home tonight. Perhaps that will work instead...

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

So my Cannibal Jack came today and I have to say Im impressed but hate putting figures together soo can anyone show me how the belts and trinkets are supposed to go on him? Also how is the white and pink sash supposed to go as well? Overall it's a great figure but very specific to Dead Mans Chest. I think I may end up getting the V1 Jack and the smiling sculpt, ect. Just so that I have a more representative Jack.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Tonner figures are closer to 1/4. The Elizabeth clothes you'll receive will be massive on an HT figure.

DAR! ah well. I just assumed they were 12" scale. Guess that's what I get for not doing my research properly. Guess I'll have to wait for Wor-Gar's info on how to make a proper DMC Liz kitbash (and that Will might be cool too!)

:D

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

is that cos you got the smiley head?

Actually, I had forgotten I had it on waitlist, but getting the smiley head did cause me to cancel when I got the notice.

Thanks for saving me alot of money. :banana

Hey Indiana -- I have all the clothing parts now to build the two, but I still need the bodies: HT Swann and a TT body for Will. The TT is not a problem, but finding a Swann body for a good price is becoming impossible. I'll keep trying but at some point I may have to break down and just buy the whole AWE Swann in the box to get that damn body. I'm shocked there's no sculpt of her elsewhere for sale. Anyway, once I get the bodies, I'm good to go. I'll definitely post the recipe once I'm certain all the parts work or can be made to work.

And yeah, sorry to say that the Tonner dolls are 18" tall. The clothing is gonna need some serious resewing to fit on a 1/6th figure. But maybe you can resell it.
