doesnt seem like its happening too soon.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm worried that the Disney licensing folks might want Sideshow to hold off on the Jack PF until we're closer to the release of the next movie--and that's going to be a while.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

:( :( :( :( :( :lecture... that is probably the truth. Disney is more controlling then Hasbro!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I was so hoping the debut would be Jack... not the evil queen :(

Dammit, Gore left POTC. I'm not going to just assume POTC4 won't be as good as the first 3, but immediately, it feels like someone besides Chris Nolan trying to continue Nolan's Batman films.

This is excellent news IMO. Gore's involvement in these movies never impressed me. Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is what did, and what made it a pop culture franchise. Looking forward to see what someone else can do with the movies :rock

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

As much as I love Johnny, Sparrow wasn't the entirity of the films. Cinematography, story, direction, acting, it all added up to making the films good.

I just worry that another director might make the next film feel like it's not part of the series, and I prefer when films of a series feel like they belong together.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

When did this thread get moved?

Bad news about Gore being out. Who's gonna take the reigns on a 4th installment? Brett Ratner? Ugh!!!!

I keep hope that at least Bruckheimer is still involved, projects that succeed that he starts usually take a plunge after he's out, like Beverly Hills Cop after 2, part 3 was no Bruckheimer and really dropped off.

Hopefully, Bruckheimer will keep it true to the style and quality that's been started and they'll pick a director who can carry that on.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

it all added up to making the films good.

I don't think they were. Rush and Depp salvaged what was there with awesome performances full of character. The script and plot had all kinds of major problems and while some audiences may be more forgiving than others opting to view these as fun popcorn movies, I wanted a more tighter plot and script. Now, those problems don't all fall on Gore's shoulders. I just think he didn't do anything that spectacular.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I saw no problems with either script or plot. These were far beyong popcorn movies, and more spectacular than 98% of what has been produced in cinema over the past three decades.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

These?

You thought the second and third were really amazing movies? Don't see eye to eye with that whatsoever. Oh well. To each his own. I thought both those movies did far worse than the first. Curse was too long, and felt disjointed at many parts. Pacing is a mess especially through middle to end. The start of that movie was great though. Overall you could just really tell this movie was written and rewritten on the set IMO.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

DMC and AWE suffered a bit in the writing, they were written as they went ahead filming them, never a good thing. The promise of the 4th film is that they're taking their time again like with Curse. Hopefully if there'll be a 5 and 6, they're working that out now too, rather than end up in the same situation again.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

DMC and AWE can be compared to "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" in The Matrix trilogy. Not really "bad" but nowhere near the masterpiece that were the originals.

It would be fantastic if Hot Toys were to do a DX version of Sparrow and then throw everyone a wicked curveball and release a DX of Barbossa. It would be a fantastic pairing and guarantee sales of both figures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Which raises the notion, if you DX Jack and Barbossa, would there be a way to make living and dead versions in the set, that'd really justify the DX.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Forgive my ignorance...what is a DX version? If its something really cool or special (as it sounds like it is) I may get one to replace my Medi Jack.
