Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Sadly, I don't imagine they'll do anyone from the first 3 movies unless they're in the 4th, there's hope for Barbossa, but I don't think they'll go backwards, unless they handle the 4th film better than AWE with figure selections and the line does really well, if they make a load of cash off it, they might go backwards to keep making money, but they have to handle it right. Between the first Jack looking a bit like Andre the Giant on the old style TT body and having the wrong coat color, plus 2 Sao Feng's, that line was hurt as much as succeeded. Of the 7 POTC figures they released, 3 were really well done, Cannibal Jack, Will and Davy Jones, Elizabeth was ok, not everyone's top costume choice though, and her hair is a train wreck of a sculpt, Sao just wasn't overly popular outside of the foreign market, and the first Jack had a mixed reception because of things like the sculpt, coat color, some figures coming with too dark a skin tone. Of all the lines I've followed from HT, I'd say the POTC one was the most poorly handled. I'm glad we at least got Davy Jones though, I love that figure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I owned the main three at one point but sold em off slowly... I'm hoping to re-put the characters (as different versions) in my collection. I'm sure Jack will be a DX when PotC 4 is out.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I have everyone but Sao, nice figure but the character did nothing for me.

I'm hoping for at least a Jack DX with PERS, correct color coat, and ideally, any Jack made now will come on the Slim TT, it's great for making Jack figures look like Johnny in costume.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah a DX Jack would be awesome. His eyes had so much character to them. I think he would be the #1 figure to benefit from PERS, even more so than the Joker. Hopefully Pirates 4 gets HT back to doing one!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If they deemed MJ worthy of PERS, I'm sure they're thinking about Jack, particularly since they did the Cannibal head, I'm sure they're aware of the expressive nature of the character to have done that sculpt. That sculpt would actually get a great range with PERS, it's not my ideal face, but, to be able to move the eyes could get more out of, the expression isn't limited to the direction they painted his eyes in.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I wish they had made Elizabeth in the green Singapore outfit with all the guns. Would have been a great figure.

Nothing touches the absence of Barbossa though. Sold my Davy Jones because of it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

One problem with a figure of Elizabeth in that costume, I though Keira looked really sexy in it and I'd be troubled seeing a figure on my shelf depicting that :lol

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It saddens me that we never got a buccaneer Elizabeth, Norrington, and Barbossa.

I still have my Elizabeth and regular Jack (I pulled out the extra long leg pegs, which helped) and enjoy them quite a bit. I just wish they had made a few more.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

A belated thanks for the comments on my Blacksmith Will, everyone!

I've actually been gathering parts to do (eventual) customs of all those characters/costumes just mentioned: Norrington, Barbossa, DMC Pirate Elizabeth, Singapore Elizabeth (pre-stripdown). Not sure what will actually be next though, they take me forever!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Has anyone tried to root the Swann head with hair? I wonder how much better she'd look. :)

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I sort of did that with my earlier Swann custom from CotBP (back on the top of page 355). You can't really "root" it in the traditional sense since there isn't really a head there past the hairline - just a square plug.

Best Buccaneer Swan Ever!!! :D

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Awesome Liz customs, but seeing that head sculpt again - HT should really give us another Lizzie that's up to their standards now... :(

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I don't think there's much room for improvement on the face, it's one of their best likenesses I think, but the hair, even when the figure was brand new was substandard.

It looks like Ramen noodles or rope.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I scored the perfect Jack combination in an auction off Ebay. the smiling head on the original outfit on a narrow shoulder body! I know many of you are advocates for the slim but personally I don't think it looks good at all with that body, Anyway can't wait for my Jack!!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

As long as you're happy. I got in a second Slim today to convert my Cannibal, I love the slim, I think with the costuming of Jack Sparrow, it's the perfect body of what HT has to replicate Johnny's build. Really hope to see more Pirates out of HT with the next movie, and hopefuly a definitive Jack Sparrow figure finally.
