Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I was gonna go after the V2 smirking head on ebay, but I am more than happy with my V1 Jack.

Cannibal Jack however looks amazing!!!! Not enough for me to pick it up right now though. V1 is really a great figure, I dont feel the need to own V2.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I don't like how dark my V1 Jack is, and that added to my temptation to pick up the second Jack. I like the serious sculpt, but I got a really dark figure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I be in that thar similar unseaworthy vessel Josette. Any darker an he be chimney sweep Jack. Even so, thar be an insidious temptation for flesh, I be havin, for that thar cursed Cannibal Jack head. Arrrr.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That was certainly a problem with V1, which varied figure to figure, in some cases a great deal. I got a fairly light Jack, which I was happy about. I have seen some pics that make him look very dark. Could be the figure or just the lighting, but his skin tone was a definite problem with V1.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I noticed the skin tone problem arrose when SSC started to ship theres, it seemed like there was a second production run like HT's Rocky figures and somehow, the skin tones in the second wave varied from lighter to darker. I got a nice light one myself that has the perfect dirty pirate look, but I'd probably be in a different mood if I got one too dark. I still see great potential in the smirking head and look forward to seeing it in hand and working my camera with it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, I guess as I said in the review my order of preference is -

1 Cannibal, just outstanding

2 Serious, so much of Depp in there

3 Smilling, third choice, but from the right angle, I found a 3/4 angle to be the strongest, it's still a cracking sculpt, but we're spoilt by the other two choices.

Just wait till you see the paint job on the eyes on these new releases, they come alive

Just how dark did the Jack paint apps get on V1, I'd love to see some pics.

I got a fairly dark one, but I don't mind. After all, people get darker in constant exposure to sunlight ;)

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It's not as bad as I thought it might be, I guess a salty seadog should be weathered, windswept and interesting. He just needs to slap on some factor 20 next time he hits the beach.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

:lol Just when I make up my mind to get the V2 it becomes apparent that they first one has the better sculpt (cannibal head aside since I won't use that one). But I'll probably wind up getting a dark one if I go with the V1. Blasted decisions.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I guess I'm in a minority, I see Johnny as much in the V2 clean head as the V1 and the addition of the smirk adds more of the character, I'm excited for it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Honestly Agent, you will not be dissapointed when you have it in hand, both are amazing sculpts and have their own strengths. I just think after having had V1 for so long now I've got accustomed to how he looks, but V2 has so much of Jacks character in that smirk.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If that is truly an in hand photo from a consumer, it looks spot on to the prototype, good news. Can't wait. I have a hunch he'll show up on the heels of Cannibal Jack for the U.S.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Davy is a figure that definitely needs the Armor-All treatment. He needs to look as wet and slimy as possible.

I can't get the second link to load for me. Any good pics on there?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

He looks great! Glad to see the production process didn't kill his details or paint. Not sure how I feel about everything on him being a rubber suit though.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Link works now.

Davy looks pretty much like the proto, which is good. He's also relatively good height with Jack...although cutting Jack down a bit is still my plan.

One thing though, he seems to be missing his one piece of actual material -- his sash. Hard to see if it is still material or if it is now molded too.

Looks like material, I see some fraying on the right bottom side. It actually looks like it's supposed to like a fish net material to keep with the sea theme on him, which would be clever.
