Thanks for the feedback guys

Idealized is good from time to time, but don't get used to it, it'll make you forget the true OT and go the PT route :D

Haha, I have no fear of that :p I like idealized because that's pretty much what they WANTED you to see. They get away with a lot in movies in terms of props because you don't see stuff dead straight on, and it's moving, fast, not close up etc. Did they want the helmets to be asymmetrical? Probably not, so I don't mind a symmetrical helmet, or fixed up parts. Having a lineage is cool and all too, but bottom line for me is how cool I think it looks, not how accurate it is to the prop used. (I know that would be heresy on the RPF :p)

This is how I feel, too. The original props had issues and I understand folks wanting theirs to show the same imperfections, but in reality, I think Lucas would have preferred the imperfections to go unnoticed. When people look at my idealized TK helmet, nobody has ever asked why it is so clean and symmetrical...

Depends on the items. There are unlicensed props, helmets or studio scale that sell for a small fortune. Props and studio scales made from original parts are always more expensive than their licensed counterparts which are just simple replicas with molded parts. A friend of mine recently sold his Sterling conversion and got almost twice as much as you would get for a MR E-11.

Definitely original part stuff keeps it's value (and goes up as original parts get rarer), but they are EXPENSIVE. In terms of other unlicensed replicas generally they do unless a better version comes up down the line, but even then unless they aren't great representations anyways they tend to keep most of their value. Some stuff that doesn't get done often and gets hard to find down the line can get very expensive. So it's about the same with licensed props tbh :p

True... It will look clean and that will be nice... But something will look off. They won't be able to pick out that is the fact that it is symmetrical and throwing the look off, but their mind will register that something is off. The asymmetry is so integral to the correct look it is noticeable every time... Even if you don't realize it. :) that is the beauty of the OT props. They have personality because they are imperfect.

Licensed props have to deal with a few things. One of them is the fans. Many fans (most of them in fact) cannot truly understand nor really care how the screen used props were made, and they indeed are happy with idealized symmetrical props. Heck, some people were even happy with Rubies armors and Mr Potato Head toys LOL.

We have to understand that any prop replica, no matter how accurate we think it is, in the end is just a copy of the original, a more or less accurate copy of that. The true collectible remains the screen used one, all others are clones of it, some a perfect clones, some are distant and idealized copies. I do have my fair share of idealized props too, but I prefer the accurate ones - within some limits though.

For example we know the Stormtrooper armor was not originally made with acrylic caped ABS, but since this type of ABS exists now, I don't mind to have it used for my armor. That is because it will protect the armor better from yellowing in time. Then the MR Stormtroper blaster, it is a very cool piece, idealized of course, but still very cool.

Beautiful !!

So I ordered now my Ugly ESB bucket ! Cant wait for this ! :) Gonna be an nice BDay Gift

There is a guy selling a genuine Graflex on another board. Heck with that piece in hand you could make a truly accurate Luke lightsaber. Too bad I'm not into sabers, I would have gotten it. Though if I'd ever get my hands on a converted MPP then I won't pass.

question to the pros... what color is the Luke's Cloak in ROTJ when you went to Jabba ?

It looks pretty grey/black most of the time because of the shadows, but it's actually just a regular brown.

Although I think some people believe they used two different cloaks and one was black.

Nice collection! I always liked those painted variant TKs from The Force Unleashed, for some reason. Especially the Incinerator.

What are you looking at getting next, Revan?(and welcome to the board! :duff )
