Since it's Hot Toys and Predators, maybe my question won't make so much sense, but... with the large availability, even increasing with people cancelling the pre-orders plus the scalpers probably getting flooded (not sure if this is the correct word) with Shadow Predators unable to sell them for big bucks like they intended, my question is:

Do you think this will be another "Lost Predator" being easy to get and at a low price (in Hot Toys terms...)? When I say a "Lost Predator" I'm refering to that particular figure and not another predator for the Lost clan as it obviously is.

If that happens I may be able to get one later on ebay cheaper than the total cost I would have with Sideshow + Fedex + customs. That would be great.

I wouldnt go that far just to save 20$.:wink1::slap

Save $20? Buying from Sideshow shipped by Fedex to Portugal is: $224.90 + $27.50 (Fedex) + aprox. $65 (courier taxes) + aprox. $70 (customs and VAT) = $387.40

This is what I have to pay in total if I buy Shadow from Sideshow, thus my question, because Lost Predator due to the large availability cost a lot less when I bought it a few months back. And I bought it from Sweden, so no customs, much less courier taxes.

So, my question was if you people think Shadow may go the same route as Lost. If it does I may be able to buy it at a much better total cost a bit later.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting something more because it's limited. It's part of what makes collecting fun. You have to admit that having something in your collection that is highly sought after and limited is a pretty satisfying feeling.

i think attaching your ego to your toys is ridiculous and i don't base my collecting habits around hoping nobody else can have what i have. i collect what looks cool in a display case and i can't display manufactured scarcity. and i think buying something you don't care about just because it's limited is petty.

What's wrong with wanting something more because it's limited? There are tons of variants of figures and statues that are simply repaints which are high in demand because they're limited. And while I was disappointed with Shadow's high availability, that's only part of the reason why I'm considering cancelling my pre-order. The few accessories and high price, especially compared to the Classic Predator, are also deterrents for me as well.

Furthermore, how can displaying your figures not be related to ego? People display things to show off what they have. In fact, I believe there's a thread here where people do exactly that. And to the argument that manufactured scarcity can't be displayed, of course it can. All kinds of collectibles are numbered individually by when they were made out of how many were made.

it's just another opinion, guy. i'm not trying to change your mind and you won't change mine.

My only issue with someone who would want something because its limited is if they actually aren't personally interested in the subject matter. Because that would seem petty to me aswell. Buying something you're not really interested in at the expense of someone who is interested in it. And you don't have to be a super-dooper obsessive, as long as you just like Predator and you like the figures.

I for one display my figures for me to look at, and I'm sure the same is true of most collectors. It can't possibly be for showing off if you never show them to anyone who doesn't ask to see them.

(These were displayed in a detolf shelf) they turned yellow especially white areas and molds were grown on them making them look more old and worn, stickers faded, tarnished on chrome areas, i know it might not be the same plastics as HT, just the fear of it happening again when it comes to display for me.
If i were to display my lost clan preds or robocop 3, my first worry would be the rubber dreads and robocop's rubber joints becoming sticky due to humidity

While it might not pertain to collecting figures, there are definitely things that are desirable simply because they're limited or rare. Take video games, for example. Chase the Chuck Wagon, one of the rarest games for the Atari 2600, was based on dog food, and, needless to say, it sucks. Collectors want it, though, because very few of copies were sold. The only way to get one, in fact, was to mail in some sort of proof of purchase to Purina.

Though that's not to say that Shadow Pred's assumed limited run was the only reason why I wanted it. It just seems too expensive for what what it is, especially since there are better things from Hot Toys and for less. It also doesn't help that I'm from Canada and shipping and duty fees make it seem even less worthwhile to own.

I definitely oversimplified my argument there and didn't intend on sounding like that was the only reason I collect figures. I collect figures for myself too, but I think there is at least some pride in knowing what you own is rare. I mean, people post videos of their collectibles all the time on youtube, and it's certainly not asked of them.

That's very unfortunate. :(
