Completely agree. The crotch ones work so much better..well, not for the intense posing, but I like my figures to be in pretty simple, static poses.

The ring/waist stands are ____ing TERRIBLE. It takes a ____ing hour to get them on one figure, and by the time you get it on, there are a gazillion scratches in the friggin paint.
Oh, and the netting. The ends always get caught in the netting. So annoying.

The crotch ones aren't as noticeable and I can still get some pretty decent poses out of them. I dig the waist ones too, but only for taller figures so I can wrap them around the thighs. That's what I'm doing with my Chopper and Celtic. Gives me more posing options that way.

Ultimately, it comes down to the figure. I haven't had any dives with my Classic yet, but I check my Preds every now and then to make sure they're not wobbling around on their stands. So far, so good.

Do you think the crotch or waist ones look better?

This figure is awesome.

I think this guy make a swell P1. :)

Yeah I would thought so.
Im just glad it does come with a awesome stand instead of a standard HT one.

I'm seeing more diorama-style stands from HT lately. Let's hope this becomes more of a regular thing, especially with the remakes. The prices are going up anyway, so we might as well get some added coolness out of it.

Getting a nifty temple base with Scar would be nice, too. Or maybe something icy. Wolf would get the hive, obviously.

Gah, I really hope these upgrades live up to their full potential. Lot of opportunities to really make them kick ass here.

In most cases being forced to do that^ is why I hate 'waist-grabber' stands. Sure you can grab figures around the thigh but then the figure is off-centre on the stand, usually with one foot off. I don't like that unless I'm specifically going for an elaborate pose that demands the feet be off the base.

I love the off-center look, personally. Makes the display more interesting than your standard front-and-center, stand-at-attention deal. To each their own.

It's always been a fantasy of mine to buy an old Colonial Marine figure (preferably Hicks) and update it with Snyder-Man's kickass headsculpt and a modern HT body. Unfortunately, HT's penchant for upgrading older figures combined with the price of a Hicks nowadays keeps me at bay. I guess it's for the best; I'll need to save all the cash I can for this year's Predator spending.

Sounds like a good idea.
Guess if you really want a new Hicks then NECA might release it this year. As its NECA though you wont like it. :lol

Meh, I'd prefer 1/6. It's not just a quality thing, but the overall look (fabric clothing, lots of accessories, etc.) and size has to be there. I just don't have a place in my collection for 7" figures. My MOTUC are in a different room on their own shelf so they're not an issue, but I've got some great SW: Vintage Collection 3.75" figures in the closet that I'd love to display. Just don't know how. Maybe they can go in front of my Sideshow 1/6 line, since I have a feeling it'll work out somehow.
NECA, however... not sure. I did buy their Duke Nukem the other day because the price was great ($13 at TRU) and the paint apps were close to flawless. He's a standalone figure so I can pretty much do whatever I want with him. Not going to get too OCD with his display. Predator- and Alien-related merch, on the other hand, just has to go somewhere. That's the thing.

Meep, I'm just splurging my first-world problems on SSF again. Maybe someone should make a thread in the Off-Topic or Sandbox section for display conundrums like this.

Yeah you need a place for them. I dont have many so I just got one shelf with my 2 NECA Pred and 1 NECA Alien Warrior. My 18" NECA big chap is on the floor at the mo. :lol
The paint on the prototype Evil Dead looks good so hope the Aliens and Preds look as good.
