I hate CG explosions. Sure they look "prettier" but you can almost allways tell it's fake. Real explosions look better simply because.. well.. it's real.

Miniatures, real explosions, and real stunts will always be better. I honestly can't imagine CG will get so good where you won't have that quick mental flash of "that's CG" whenever you see it.

Look how well miniatures worked for the chase scene in TDK. Much better than any CG.

I strongly agree.

Those movies are hardly old school:lol. When i think of old school i think of Murnau etc..Also most of the movies you mentioned are full of effects.

It's old school to me, and many other people. :lecture And yes, they do include effects...but those effects had a purpose to the story...wouldnt you say? The Aliens had the Aliens, and the ships...the Predator...well...the Predator...nothing felt unessesary.

No, Jurassic park is pretty poorly written, the characters are ok but only because they are played by good actors.
So disagree.

:lecture

Haven't seen Inception but i think Nolan is a pretty poor director and very overrated. All his so called original ideas come from other movies (dreamscape=inception), inception is not original!
The way he made the film is original. He's not overrated because everything he makes is great. Great.

I think Avatar's script is good for what it is; the message should be in your face and speak to everyone. A more complex script wouldn't really suit the idea of the movie.
That is true. But still. The story should've been better, for all the hype it got. I was expected some very slight twists and turns, but I got none. I wasnt surprised, or shocked about anything in the movie. Just entertained,

I'm seeing Predators tomorrow.
:impatient:

Whats with you bringing avatar in everytime we argue. You cant have a decent discussion without saying somthing about avatar?

Weird. Yea but it was technology that made those movie's good it was technology that made the alien move and the lightsabers light up. If they put tin foil on the lightsabers then it wouldnt be as fun now wouldnt it. I'm not saying that all movies are good withcgi but a movie franchise like predator needs somthing other suits and clunky spining around. Seriously i wanna see a pred run and drop kick sombody in the face not get in a 2sec sword fight.

Inception huh ?

A dream within a dream within a dream within a dream. And the guy who is possibly in a dream all along.

Because...regardless of your issues with Avatar, it's the biggest movie of all time. And since it's effects heavy, and story lite...it will probably always be brought into discussions.

And since you were raised with crap, you have no idea what good is. It's the same mentality that these teens have that piss me off. I cant stand it. They have no idea that THE EFFECTS ARE ONLY THERE TO MOVE THE STORY FORWARD! Not dazzle you with pretty things.

If someone looks down a hole and says "WOW! That's a huge hole!" and we see a shot down the hole(which is an obvious effect), and a man explains- "The hole is a reactor. If anything falls down there, it's game over for the plant!" PLOT POINT! Moves the story along.

Honestly, everything you're saying isnt making you look like you have a good taste in cinema. All you want is cool effects, and bright colors.

It's like all you want to do is eat McDonalds every day, and never once indulge in a dish of Chicken Parm.....:)drool)

Open your mind a bit...

Oh and your horribly retarded summery of Inception also makes you look worse. Just saying.

Dude seriously get a grip its a movie. I go to the movies to have a good time, not to go to school. Its what the movies was made for to have fun. And predators is supposed to be a fun movie. But it wasnt. but whatever.

No ____ it's just a movie. But on a forum, we dont just watch movies, we analyze them. Because we're movie nerds. That's whats fun to us.

This isnt a movie forum you idiot its a statue forum lol. Yea your right but im not the one to anylyze a movie. Maybe somtimes.

No CG Preds! That would be like getting rid of puppet Yoda and making him CG doing all these crazy, over the top acrobatic lightsaber moves and... oh wait nevermind.

Seriously though I think CGI is way overused in most movies today. I think a costumed actor and practical effects are usually far more effective for the most than CGI. I would have much prefered a puppet Yoda for EPs 2 and 3 and only use CG for the fight scenes.

Hear hear!

I hate CG explosions. Sure they look "prettier" but you can almost allways tell it's fake. Real explosions look better simply because.. well.. it's real.

The big one in predators looked particularly bad :lol

First off, you got to expect some hostility when you call somebody an idiot. :lol
Secondly, it's not just a statue forum, but a collectors forum. What do we collect? We collect Statues and figures from comics, cartoons, TV shows, Video Games and MOVIES. So most collectors are normally movie enthusiasts too. That's why we most of us, including yourself judging by your last contradictory sentence, like to analyze movies.

No i called him an idiot becuase i was joking, He takes things to seriously. Its fine with me if you debate a movie. Its just that i get a kick out of this guy taking everything so literally. He needs to chill. lol.

I take things too seriously? ME? Holy christ on a cracker cross.

:lol

Goddamn...:lol

That was funny as ____,

See that was a joke to bait you out i know you would responf in a negitive manner.

Hardly negative. And now you've sucessfully outed yourself as a troll. :lol

Also, there is a unspoken rule. See, if you're going to joke, you have to add a smiley....such as...

You're an idiot. :lol <------ Joke.

You're a ____ing moron. <----- Not a joke.

Just came back from Predators.

8th Wonder's review of Predators

I went to the theatre not expecting much, in fact i expected a very....very poor movie. Overall this movie had terrible reviews. The movie starts and i suddenly realize i really want to see this but i tell myself "this movie is declared completely awful by so many critics so don't expect to have fun. I watch and watch; "hey i'm stil enjoying this what's going on????" The fact is this movie isn't the stinker plenty of people deemed it to be.

Predators is a movie that is made with enthusiasm. It is obviously a movie from fans to the fans and even comes across a bit old-fashioned at times. It is anti-slick (wich is a breath of fresh air in a time where escapist cinema is dominated by movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight). Predators just screams pulp, even more so than any other installment in the franchise including the AVP movies however it knows how to deal with that perfectly. It takes itself serious when necessary and knows when to just let loose and turn into an all around b-movie monster fest.

Adrien Brody is perfect as the nihilistic mercenary Royce who at times has more in common with the antagonistic predators than with the group he is leading trough the hunting grounds. The cast work well together and while some characters were not completely necessary (namely Noland and Edwin) they do add some vulgar human characteristics to the mix wich suits this; bad against worse themed movie. Isabelle and Nikolai seem to be the only characters capable of some altruistic behaviour however in the end even Royce has to let go of his cruel practicality to retain some sort of human essence.

The predator designs are ok but do not completely convince; especially when compared to the magnificent predators created by the great Stan Winston. The actors (Brian Steele and Derek Mears) are not always able to make the suits come alive but deliver a decent performance overall. Still, it reminds us how rare the talent of the late Kevin Peter Hall really was who could brilliantly play menacing alien hunters and Bigfoot (Harry and the Hendersons) and completely make you forget that it was an actor in a suit.

The script is decent. The direction is flawed but still solid. Antal knows his stuff and is miles ahead of Stephen Hopkin's sometimes cringeworthy work on Predator 2. To expect the same level of professionality and cinematic vision Mctiernan delivered with the first Predator movie would be unrealistic for this sequel. To have clasically educated directors like Mctiernan handeling this kind of material is rare to say the least. Mctiernan's original predator film is unique and hard to top if not impossible to top by any sequel. Therefor it might not have been the best idea to almost completely copy Silvestri's original score for this sequel since it reminds the viewer of a much more superior film.

Is Predators a worthy sequel? When placed next to the original then no, probably not. It is not on par with the quality of the original. Is predators a good predator movie? Yes, and it is certainly entertaining

If you like to see a satisfying creature feature from time to time, then go see Predators because it definately delivers that.
