Prime1 Giger Alien (Big Chap)

Oh snap, I hadn't seen that prop before. Is the single-slit egg what Brett was morphing into? No wonder it looked different from the other eggs.

Would you be willing to share the original Giger egg measurements? If I end up buying this statue, I might try modeling mine on the computer.

And yes they had the single slit egg for the hive in Alien but they got rid of the single slit because they thought it was too sexual from catholic countries. So he just made an x

A v*gina (I had to censor that, seriously?) spider and an Alien with a phallic head that essentially rapes it's victims is fine horror material. But a single slit on a very nonsexual prop is too much to bare, those religious folk hey... The X eggs do look better though in fairness.

Okay well if I'm doing the screen accurate egg I'll do it open simply because my Alien3 is closed. The Warrior comes with an egg so I won't need to make one for that.
The first films egg is still the creepiest egg. The color and the Nottingham Lace on the inside is so gross lol

Okay so this is interesting, the Alien3 egg is 18 inches tall. Which is ALOT smaller than the chap egg. In 1/3 it is 6 inches high, exactly what my sculpt for 3's egg. The chap egg is 36inches tall, so a 1/3 is 12 inches. Double that of the Alien 3 egg. And the 86 egg which was 25.5 inches would be around 8 inches for a 1/3. So that's 12 inches for the chap, 8 for the warrior and 6 inches for Alien3 runner. I had no idea there was that much difference in the egg sizes.

I'm thinking you'd have to sculpt or build an extension, similar to what Hot Toys does for some of their bases:



If you want to keep the wall, you'll extend the base on the side or the front. If you're not a fan of the wall and don't mind the egg behind the Alien, you could extend the back and even have the extension slot into the same holes the wall would've used.

But yikes, 12" is a tall order. I'll do a mock-up in Photoshop to test different sizes. Still on the fence about this statue, but if I order and want to throw in an egg of my own, I may end up shrinking it down a bit for aesthetics/where I want the egg to go.

Probably not, the Chap base is not very big. But you can just put it on the side I'd think. Even a nice modern glass box or something like that for it to stand on. Tentacles may also need to happen with it. I tried to get the info our of the guy who sculpted both the chap abd warrior for p1 to see how big the warrior egg is, he didn't budge haha. I'll work on him a bit later, but if the egg is at 8 inches then it is accurate. He did say that it was never intended to be different sizes it was just the various Hero egg puppet and the miniature set eggs. I do kinda like being accurate to the film though. If you look at Giger holding the egg vs the egg being held from Alien3 you can see a big difference.

Here's a mock-up of a few things one can do with an egg and some extra hive gunk. I realize the look of the egg isn't accurate to Giger's, I just used the Prime 1 egg from the Warrior package and did some minor editing to get this done fast.

I'm still undecided, but this might warm me up to the idea of getting the Big Chap. Since I'm looking for an Alien to display next to the Jungle Hunter, I feel like the base needs a little extra gunk to offset the rectangular shape and make it feel like more a diorama to match the feel of the other piece. Here's a comparison of the two statues with a flipped egg position on the Alien (ideally the Alien would face the egg like in the first image, but the tail may get in the way of the egg placement).

I mean if the space is there then I like the egg on the base. However, as far as film accuracy goes the egg and chap really don't belong together. I like the idea of having the egg on the side, like a museum style set up.

I'd have been fine if Prime 1 added more equipment from the Nostromo instead. Cables, bulkheads, etc. I'm just not a fan of the rectangular platform concept they've gone with.

I personally think the Big chap is plenty enough, it doesn't need too much extra stuff busying it up, especially in this scale. Like Blade said above, maybe a few wires or tools at most, maybe a little bit of shed skin or something. They went the opposite direction with their Warrior and it looks a bit of a mess imo. I'd have gone even further with the simplicity of the big chap and not even had the wall. Your mock up highlights just how much better the wall not being there shows of the sculpt and pose. I actually like the action pose more now seeing it like that. Some plugs for the holes would be a nice little option for the price they want for this, especially given how many people suggested from day one that they would have preferred it not to be there.
