I would tend to agree with you (us alien fans should stick together), but these are open to too much speculation.
Believe me, I really want to love this movie... but not because something exists (even if it's flawed) means that it is to be accepted as is.

Your explanations are valid, but it is up to the movie to "show me/us" or at least say it. Because I can just as well make up anything to contradict your arguments and there would be no right answer.

Either way, I hope this is a complete reboot at this point. It's the only thing that makes it easier to swallow (pun intended).

Btw, I found this online:
Other than it being cool, states that Queens are needed for eggs to exist.

Hey, no problem Face! :duff
I just want more people to enjoy this movie and not just dismiss it off-hand.
But, I don't agree with the statement that a movie should "show us or say it", otherwise, we'd never have 2001, or Alien for that matter.
And I really don't think I made anything up... :(

As for the "evolution" chart, who knows... maybe David did create a queen somewhere along the way, or maybe it's just poorly thought out fan-fiction. :huh

Maybe going in your expectations were too high? Or you had a very clear idea of what you wanted to see?
With all my beloved franchises (Alien, Star Wars, DCEU), I try to go in as free of prejudice as possible. I really haven't expected much from an Alien movie since A:R (and I've never even been a big fan of Aliens...), other than decent scares, great visuals and entertaining/intense movie experiences. I firmly believe that neither Prometheus nor Covenant have disappointed in that regard, and both have raised more/better questions than just about any other genre film I've seen.

So I'm pretty happy with both.

Again, I agree.
I wouldn't deter anyone from seeing Alien Covenant. I liked the movie.
Can't wait for the statues.

Well, it was better than Prometheus.

Once the 2 robots met up, the exact ending was all too obvious.

The one thing I hated most about it was the cgi. ALIEN gave us a guy in a damn kewl costume. Second only to the Gill Man IMHO. And it looked awesome. So why now almost 40 years later do we have fake looking cgi Aliens? Nothing about them, any of the alien stages, looked believable. When david was calming the one down, it just looked horribly fake. I was expecting the chestburster to re-create the Spaceballs scene.

The lead actress also wins the award for have the most quivering jaw ever in a motion picture.

Love the first 2 flickes and all the followed have been awful.

I love that Scott

ALIEN3'd Shaw. I loved that character but it makes perfect sense.

I can't imagine watching this movie and feeling cheated in any way. But nerd rage escapes me, thankfully.

At this point, are PROMETHEUS and COVENANT still officially prequels? This one might as well have been a reboot, especially with the ending. I'm fine with that since it gives Ridley the freedom to do whatever he wants.

Since David created the xeno, how did the eggs get on the ancient, fossilized LV-426 ship? Does the Alien Queen not exist anymore, or will David engineer her in the next one?

If COVENANT is indeed a prequel, will they explain how the computers and space suits get clunkier? How do you go from Fassbots to Ian Holm? That's another downgrade in technology!

David was too close to human, that why Walter was more clunky despite having his own upgrades. Ash was the robot aboard the equivalent of a cargo ship. I believe the term 'truckers in space' has been thrown around to describe the Nostromo crew. I doubt a freight company is going to have the most state-of-the-art robot onboard. Same with their gear. Probably bought long ago and since they still function, no reason to spend countless dollars to replace them. The ship itself is also nowhere as near as nice as either ship in these prequels. If the Nostromo was a luxury ship, you'd have a point, but I think everything can be explained away as not looking as new and sleek to good old fashioned corporate greed and cost saving measures.

Tell you one thing it sure has brought out the Aliens-bashers. ****in' everyone's having a go.

Khev,

I wouldn't worry about it. They're just in the early stages, trying to reassure themselves that Daddy Scott still loves them, after all. Anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance will come later. :lol

Where to begin indeed.
Let me see:

Really, I think you're just looking for things to fault, when they're all perfectly easy to explain within the movie and with some (small, not outrageous) suspension of disbelief.

Good post! Thanks!!

Hats off to abake for a great rebuttal, great breakdown.

But I still don't like the movie lol

I can accept this, makes sense.

Brometheus and Alien Convent are not canon.

Like Star Wars is the story of Luke Skywalker, Alien is the story of Ripley. Their stories have a clear beginning, middle and end. Any deviation from that story thread belongs in the trash.

What do you consider Ripley's end, Aliens or Alien 3?

You like some bald Ripley.

Alien 3

Good sacrifice bro. Her story comes full circle. Just like Luke's arc ends with Jedi. B-but MUH NEWT, muh HICKS. Ripley lost her entire crew, Dallas (c'mon, he was hittin' that), her real daughter and her life (nobody was going to hire her again with Burke dead), she was ripe for more misery. lol

To your spoiler:

It's no great secret Scott HATES the queen concept and idea. How I think the eggs came to be, in David's experiments on Shaw, her being female, perhaps he was able to extract an egg or something from her reproductive system and mix it with the goop and some other indigenous insect. HOWEVER, if you recall in Prometheus, Shaw clearly says 'I can't create life' so she's barren. That said, it would cast a bit of doubt on the success of David using any part of her for experimentation purposes from a reproductive standpoint.

The eggs in Covenant are obviously the first iteration of the egg as the xeno which is subsequently born from it, even that is a first iteration so more evolution is needed. That said, how the cargo hold full of eggs comes to be, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that somehow David is able to just engineer them all and mass produce them, since Scott refuses to accept the Queen angle, he won't have anything laying eggs in the next movie (if he even makes it). David probably is able to use the colonists in cryosleep to make the 'thousands of eggs', and Walter (who I think isn't dead) finds another Engineer ship on the planet, and flies it in pursuit of David on the covenant. Walter then manages to get the eggs off the Covenant, probably destroying it in the process and then pilots the juggernaught with the eggs in status and eventually crashes on LV-426 but then made the warning signal before crashing. Obviously he would have had to be impregnated somehow, but that's what my money's on.

You can't even say that whatever birthed from whoever was on that ship became a queen then laid all the eggs in the cargo hold because Scott won't have anything with the Queen at all.

Again, I agree.
I wouldn't deter anyone from seeing Alien Covenant. I liked the movie.

Yeah, as a stand alone sci-fi movie it's not bad, if you detach the other films from it, it's enjoyable, why I gave it a 7/10 is because of attempt at trying to tie things together which it does a terrible job at.

I mean the film has been out over a week world wide and it's only made 46MM overseas, with 36MM already from US, let's say it makes 48MM opening weekend in the US. You'd think the overseas receipts would be higher with it already being out a week, that doesn't bode well for total gross. Budget was 97MM which they'll probably make back but only from combined US/foreign receipts.

Fair enough!

Oh, and about eggs and queens and David's experiments: remember that he clearly showed insects that he was experimenting on... bugs. So maybe Scott isn't so averse to the idea of the queen...

I liked the movie alright but could have been much better, and i feel cheated with Shaw they could have done so much more with her. F David.
