I knew this film was past saving when
David tricked Oram into looking at the egg. Oram had just witnessed that David was looney but sure I trust you let me look at this egg in a secluded dark room that you just lead me to...I think Oram even asked "Is it safe" :slap lol
.

I mean really bad this movie is.

yeah that part got to me too.

36 million opening ouch lol

Well below expectations and lower than Brometheus!

Ouch ouch ouch.

Now it did have a lower budget than Bro, 97 million for AC vs 130 million for Bro.

But still, ouch.

GOTG2 might actually jump to the # 1 spot for this weekend only 1 million apart lol.

Somewhere right now that Blomkamp guy is pointing at Ridley Scott and laughing lol.

And hopefully FOX is calling for Blomkamp's return to this franchise.

More like $110 million budget..but yeah opening is VERY weak for a franchise film like this- with ALIEN in the title! Next weekend's drop will close the case or not...Fox must be not too happy

That's why I don't even think Blomkamp will be called.

No one will be called, this might be it for Alien.

Don't forget the $$$ for the insane marketing campaign that's been running for two months or more. Fox must have spent more than the full budget on the campaign.

Should have known it was a dud from the over-marketing alone.

Was it overmarketed, I wouldn't even know the marketing all looks the same to me from one movie to the next.

Oh well at least abake will see it twice lol.

Me, i'm cozing up to Alien/Aliens tonight.

Actually I did buy Brometheus 3D bluray for $10 and Alien 3 assembly cut for $7 and watched AC once so I did my Fox duties.

Everything I've been recording for the last couple months with commercials has been inundated with Covenant commercials... to the point that I even noticed. I expect a certain saturation 2 weeks before the film, but this has been going on for a long, long time... and it usually always means a bad movie. There's no reason to hype and oversell a movie you know will get good word-of-mouth.

It's a shame that brilliant movies become mediocre franchises that eventually lead to terrible remakes/reboots that ultimately become a joke to a new generation. It will be hard for them to see the originals for what they once were (or meant). Only another generation from now may appreciate the original film once the crap that followed is forgotten.

Nah, man. Aliens is vastly different tonally from Alien.

Scott tried to merge Prometheus' sci-fi tone and Alien's atmospheric horror tone and failed.

Blomkamp wants to continue the action/horror tone of Cameron's film.

FOX can't bury this franchise, but it can try a different route with it - which is what Blomkamp can offer them.
