wow congrats on your purchase, lead cenobite. the maquette does look gigantic indeed. makes the 18" alien look tiny. now i understand why shipping is so ridiculously pricey.

I'm a little disappointed in how these turned out. Sculpt looks awesome but the paint chould have been alot darker and closer to the prototype. I think it looks meaner with the semi blackened legs. The stance is almost laughable all jacked up. Looks like they messed up and the rod hole on the base ended up crooked. Thats why they had to go with a longer rod.You can see the hugger is cocked to one side. I don't think we will be able to just shorten the rod because the legs that are already close to the base would touch or break. It's going to either need a new base with a straightened rod hole or a custom bent rod that is shortened. When you conmpare what it was supposed to look like and what you guys have received it is apparent someone messed up. It went from the low profile, dark stalker on SS's site pics to some semi hovering thing. I thought the post underneath was obvious enough before but it looks like someones been feeding the hugger Enzyte. I'm not going to cancel it because i think the sculpt is superb but somethings going to have to happen with the base.

Well, I was planning on a custom clear rod for this anyway (got the rod ready!), and the "height" issue only further cements my decision. Mine will be here in a day or two, and I'll get to test out my clear rod and we'll see how the feet do or dont line up. :) Many pics to follow...

maybe there was an error in the batch production, are all your edition sizes close together ?

any luck with the custom rod?
curious how it looks.

my facehugger arrived today. here are a few pics. mine is elevated a bit also, but i just imagine it is skittering across the floor and is in the process of jumping up at that exact moment. the tail is really what makes this piece nice. it is too bad the bottom of this piece cannot be seen as it is pretty spooky under there...

so none of their feet touch the base ?.
How strange ! , a little dissapointing for me aswell.
I think that may have put me off this one for the price.

It does look excellent though.

since i did mention the bottom sculpt, here is a picture of the bottom.

Well, my facehugger came today, and I'm sad to say that my attempts at a clear rod support are a failure...:monkey2 The piece is simply far too heavy and literally SNAPPED the rods. I even tried a thicker diameter rod (tapered to fit into the holes) and... SNAP. :banghead Its not that the rod cant support the weight vertically, its that the piece (due to the tail) pulls/puts weight to its left and the rods cant physically take the stress.

I can see now why Sideshow went with a metal rod. :sick

As for the heighth issue, the rod is 2cm too long contributing to the levitation effect (facehuggers in Zero G! :horror Now THATS something for a movie!) but its also positioned about 15degrees too far forward, so even it you did shorten the rod only the front 2 legs would make contact. :( If you you actually set her on the ground almost all of her legs make contact.

Soo... the options are as follows:

1.) Use supplied rod, and attempt to heat/reposition the legs so as they make contact (or close too it).
2.) Shorten the rod by 2cm AND bend it about 15 degrees in the other direction.
3.) Discard rod, and use something else (like a small silicon pad of some sort) as a support/buffer between her belly and the rock outcropping on the base.
4.) Leave as is.
5.) Sell it off.

Im not too sure what to do myself... :(

Oh and a interesting idea I might do. Apply clear "press on nails" to the fingers/legs to give them more visual seperation from the rest of the legs and a more realistic look. ;)

Well this is very disappointing - im not sure what I will do when I get mine either :(

so even shortening the rod will not help?
and do you think that there is any way to actually soften the legs so you can reposition them? Its made of polystone right? is that even possible?

this sure is a bummer :monkey2

I've got to take care of a couple errands today, but I'll be devoting my evening to contemplating this dilemma. It is polystone, which with the proper heating/tools/elbow-grease can be CAREFULLY altered.

It still is a beautiful piece, but I have 2 big in-progress Alien projects (one of which is already a facehugger) right now, and wasnt looking to add any more to the workload, so I hope this is either really easy, or well... I might have a Queen Facehugger for sale... ;)

I wish you luck my firend for your sake and mine - I really want to like this piece but if its sitting that high up it will be hard to justify it.

I do like option #2 that you posted........how difficult do you think it would be to bend that rod? it is pretty sturdy? How hard do you think it would be to cut it as well?

That seems like it might be the better option, rather than risk bending the legs........what do you think?

Here's another option - she's jumping. That's story I tell myself and I have no problem enjoying this amazing piece.

I think i'm going to go to a landscaper and find a real stone base. Drill a hole in the right spot and add a shortened rod.

Are the legs strong enough to hold up its own weight Kaijuboy?

SUCCESS!!!!!!

:banana:banana:banana

Okay, after a little bit of work, I present to you the way the Queen Facehugger should have looked all along!

I went with my "option 2" but I didnt want to use the existing rod because:
a) I didnt know exactly what metal it was made of, and some metals dont bend well, they BREAK.
b) If my attempts were unsuccessful, I didnt want to attempt to sell mine WITHOUT its original rod.

Sooo... I used some 3/8 copper tubing cut down to exactly 14cm, with a roughly 12 degree bend (with some slight s-curve correction on top). I also did some painting on it to closer match the base (instead of the original rod's solid black). It held the weight just fine, but I'm reinforcing it by filling its insides with epoxy putty just to be safe. Her legs are all now barely off the base (2mm just to be safe), except for the middle 2 (which are supossed to be "up").

I've included pictures of what it looks like with the original rod and the "new" rod.

I think it turned out FANTASTIC, and the new Rod is much less noticeable as well. No "hovering" Aliens for me! But enough of my talk, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves....
