Devs dont bother to design for PS3, they design for 360 then port it over where the software doesnt match-up to the consoles specs and thus they screw PS3 buyers over.

If they design for PS3 it'll be amazing but they can't then port that over cos the 360 won't handle it.

Not exactly, the texture problem on PS3 is pretty simple and unexpected:

The streaming speed of the standard PS3 HDD disc:
If you do'nt install the game on both systems, then, the texture problem on 360 and PS3 will be barely the same, (slightly better on 360 cause the RAM) however with the game installed the PS3 texture loading problem is still worse and much more noticiable than 360 cause The 360 HDD streaming speed is much faster

Here you go, the PS3 version with a SSD HDD instead the original HDD:

And the info about a SSD HDD disc,( Sorry It's in spanish)

Rage on PS3 is'nt a port from the 360 version neither, the problem is that the ID tech 5 engine was specifically designed for a multicore system as PC (and 360) and needed a faster GPU aswell (the GPU on PS3 is slower than 360 for example).

I read long time ago, that Carmack had to work really hard to exceed 20 or 30 fps on PS3 (cause the slower GPU and different CPU architecture) and had to redo the code for PS3, almost from the beginning, and ensuring that the development on PS3 has been three times as long and hard than PC or 360 (and much more money of course)

Therefore the PS3 version is'nt a port or a cheap version, but the opposite. and the 3 versions runs at 60fps with no drops :lecture

I traded in my copy of Rage on PS3 for the 360 version, bought a new hard drive, installed it and holy crap. Hardly any pop in. Not only that but the image is much sharper. PS3 for exclusives only from now on.

True, the image is alot of sharper than the PS3 version.. like all the multiplattform games :(

I always do the same: just exclusives and figting games for PS3, and all multiplatform games for 360 (and 360 exclusives )

Solid game. It doesn't "wow" me with anything really new or innovative but it is a good play. A combo of "Fallout", "Borderlands" and "Mad Max"... unlike Fallout though, RAGE is more oriented on the Action aspect rather than blending into an action-RPG like the newer Fallout games.

I'm still on disc 1 and the story hasn't "got" me yet, but I'm excited to keep playing and keep going. This will hold me over until Arkham City comes out. I'm still trying to comprehend the whole "RAGE" title name. Is there any meaning behind that? I know id software likes using the short, one work names (Like "Doom", "Quake", etc.), but whatever.

Honestly, I'm looking more forward to DOOM 4 from id. ;)

Yea this is a pretty solid game. It's nothing amazing. The shooting feels great, enemy AI is nice, good character models, good gun sounds and everything looks good....from a distance but seriously why is everyone raving about the visuals, it's so ugly at times. Story seems weak too but overall I'm enjoying playing it. Prob an 8/10 for me so far.

:exactly: The visuals really break down anytime you are up close to an object or texture...I agree with everyone so far...solid game but, meh....doesn't really grab you. I also have to complain about traveling to the same places to complete side quests...it gets old. All in all, not a bad game but I expected more. 7-8/10... I'll be waiting for Arkham city, Skyrim, and....ASSASSINS CREED REVELATIONS!!! :clap

bought this but to busy to play only have time for arkham city anyone want to buy it for 55? free shipping

My brother-in-law has got this and isnt too happy, he thought it'd be more like Fallout, he doesn't follow games news so his only impression was from one or two trailers.

Anyway he said he'll likely trade it in, hopefully i can borrow it before then to see if i wanna get it in future,

I give it a 5/10...much lower than I initially was going with as I'm closer to the end the game has gotten worse and more boring. This game is so far the biggest disappointment in the "much-hyped" games of 2011. I can understand how its "trailer" won awards at E3 or whatever because the visuals are very nice but ultimately the game is a re-hash of previous plot-lines done by other video games (mostly FALLOUT) and it has one of the most paper-thin stories that ultimately tells you NOTHING. I'm very close to the end and I'm practically forcing myself to finish this game because I know if I don't then I won't ever pick it up again.

The story is the same premise as Fallout. Worldwide catastrophe (Asteroid in RAGE, Nuclear War in FALLOUT) forces the government to place people in underground survival zones (Arks in RAGE, Vaults in FALLOUT). Something happens, and your character is forced to leave into the post-apocalyptic world where everything is ruined and survivors live in towns or are parts of marauder gangs (Bandits in RAGE, well..uhh Bandits in FALLOUT). Your character is deemed "special" because he is a government special project survivor (same as in RAGE and FALLOUT). After discovering the nearby towns, you essentially become an errand boy to progress the story and acquire new weapons. Overall is the looming threat of a remnant of the government with some superior technology and they want to control the remaining world, oh...and they have dropships too (The Authority in RAGE and The Enclave in FALLOUT).

The game is just a more action-oriented FALLOUT with MUCH less story too. There's even a "Vault Boy" collectible bobblehead you can pick up in the game to further acknowledge the similarities between the two. Its like the developers knew they were doing the same thing.

Reportedly, John Carmack and id Software have spent six years on this game. Seems like during that six years they forgot to even make a story to go along with all the shooting and driving. The visuals are indeed stunning, the weapons are a variety of what you see in a lot of games, including "different"-types of ammo, the driving sequences do get repetitive after a while though as do the "hub" environment which visually are different, but they have the "same stuff" (Bar, Shop, a "Mayor", etc.) and could've used some variety in their basic "town" structure.

FPS are getting really washed over too. Much like the GTA "Sandbox" world was getting rehashed over and over, FPS games seem to be the new trend after Call of Duty blew up. So to make a unique FPS game is truly something. RAGE is not it, it doesn't introduce anything new and doesn't bring anything mind-blowing to the table. Even as you traverse through the game's "dungeons" (gang locations and places you go to essentially complete your tasks), there is almost a complete lack of "events" in the second half (i.e. a gattling gun mounted car crashing through a garage to attack you, a super mutant battle, etc.) like there is during the first quarter of the game. Not to mention you go back to these various locations to complete little odd jobs that don't give you much. The only thing good about it are its graphics, sound-effects and voice-work. But it by far has such a lack of story that you don't feel a drive compelling you to discover what is going on in the world or why you should even be helping these people. You barely learn anything about the character himself. I'm REALLY disappointed in id's game, because they have a great reputation and coming off the heels of DOOM 3, RAGE is a big step downward.

Don't waste your money on this one.

One could argue that since every FPS this generation is bringing RPG elements and other things to it then having an old school "turn of your brain and shoot" kind of FPS is refreshing in itself.

Very true. But in my opinion, RAGE rehashes what has been done by a much better game: BORDERLANDS. And even so, RAGE does involve more "thinking" then the basic "turn off your brain and shoot" games. RAGE tries to incorporate some RPG elements like engineering, different types of ammo, town-like "hubs" and one of the most condensed "open-world" I've seen in a while. Not to mention load times that are longer than it takes you drive around in some cases. A true "turn your brain off and shoot" game is something more like the campaigns of the recent Call of Duty games, no "town hubs", no "side quests", just take your guns and GO...but that's my opinion.

I know id Software isn't known for its storytelling, but for this game to be hyped the way it has and then not deliver (in my opinion) is a big disappointment. I had high expectations for it so I suppose that's why I feel the way I do. I am a gamer who likes some story, but for one to be recycled and done up as RAGE is like doing a bad reboot. I do have my select "shut up and play" games like "Dynasty Warriors", Fighting games, and various Multiplayer Deathmatch games. But while RAGE is a technical marvel. It goes to show that all that glitter can't paint over having a poor story.

snip since my post is super long as well lol

I pretty much agree with everything you've said.
I too was very disappointed with this game, after pre-ordering it months in advance and looking forward to it immensely (i love post-apocalyptic settings) after seeing how amazing the graphics were gonna be and the fact that it was from id, nothing can explain the crushing disappointment i felt after i inserted the second disc.
Up until that point i thought the game was great, not amazing as i had hoped or even been led to believe but good nonetheless.
I figured the story would pick up now the setting had changed after you put in disc 2, but it didn't.
It completely ran out of steam (what little steam it had) and just showed how shallow the story had really been right from the beginning.

The so called "open world" didn't have the depth that a game like Fallout did, i wasn't able to roam around the awesome looking "dead city" like i wanted to, and driving just became boring after a while, especially when there was no real point to it.
It would have been different if the world was truly a sandbox like Fallout, as walking everywhere really got ridiculous and having a vehicle to traverse a huge world like that in Fallout would have been awesome, but in Rage it was just all smoke and mirrors. The world wasn't open and the driving was nothing more than filler.

That said i have to praise the game for its amazing graphics and second to none shooting mechanics and A.I. sub-routines and i wish more FPS games offered this sort of ultra smooth, polished shooting experience and challenge but all that means nothing when there isn't a decent plot or reason why you are doing these things to glue it all together.

This has certainly been my biggest disappointment of 2011, and i traded it in last Friday to get Batman Arkham City, which certainly isn't over-hyped or disappointing like Rage was.

Id give rage a 6 out of 10 if only for the ultra smooth shooting mechanics and amazing A.I. and gorgeous graphics.
Not worth full price though, buy Batman instead, or Battlefield 3 if you must have an FPS.

Rage is one of the best games of the year IMO. Too bad you didn't enjoy it. I think some people were expecting Rage to be something that it's not. Id makes action games with awesome controls and great atmosphere. That's what Rage is IMO. It wasn't meant to be about story.

Borderlands had a crap story too BTW.

Borderlands is awesome, but very little happend to advance the story, its just about the actions and cooky characters, RAGE seems the same, yet the big difference is the production value, RAGE is supposed to be better as its been in development for so long, its supposed to do much more than it actually does, and when a game has a big hyped pre-release and big names and production values, people don't expect the story to be crap, they expect it to be great as the overall message advertised of the game was about it being great in every aspect.

This.
But meh, i hated Borderlands. Didnt get past the first village before i sealed it up and sent it back to love film.

It met all of my expectations and then some. It's an Id game. I knew what to expect. If I want an epic story, I don't buy a fps. Rage is an action game. Action games generally aren't punished for being action games. It's all about the gameplay and that's what Rage does brilliantly.
