Eh, didn’t really like that they dropped the ball with this one. 4 was so hard core, and this was a huge step backwards

It's a real shame that Rambo 5 breaks the franchise's streak of iconic cinematic villains. :monkey3

:lol

Touche

I wonder if this movie will be like Unforgiven, where Rambo is continually encouraged to fight back but refuses for 97% of the movie, then in the final 3 minutes he goes ballistic (for his age) and kicks ass?

I doubt it. This is Rambo, Sly isn't going to make us wait until the last three minutes of the movie to show us action. I'm sure they'll be some juicy bits sprinkled throughout with the best fight being at the end.

Hope not, but considering his age... and movie insurance costs...

I'll let you know soon. I'm watching it in an hour.

Eager to hear what you think.

I’ve already listened to the complete score twice and on my third listen lol.

My only want with this movie is to walk away feeling that there was something worth telling in a new story and for not making 4 be the end. As long as this feels like Rocky Balboa and not Rocky 5, I’ll be happy.

I used to listen to soundtracks before I saw the movie, but then I found that if I got too familiar with the music it would telegraph what was about to happen in the movie because I knew when the music picked up or slowed down...

Agreed. And sometimes it gives you preconceived notions of how the movie should be, and then your let down when it's not what you expected.

After I drop my wife and son back home from Ad Astra i?m heading back to the theater for Rambo vs overused Narcos Mexican Drug Cartel.

I wish they had stuck with the Rambo vs Area 51 premise.

For me, I don?t really memorize movie music until I see the movie, then I play back the visuals in my mind and the notes come with it. I like to just imagine what?s going on based on the feel of the music.

Ughh this review is telling.

Not a Rambo movie just an action movie that happens to have Stallone

Equivalent to the last 2 Die Hard sequels

Super cheap feeling

As I walked out of the theater, a guy behind me said it best, "No more Rambo movies please, unless they make a prequel in Vietnam."

I'm disappointed if this is how the Rambo franchise ends, because it's just not as good as Rambo 4, which felt like the perfect ending. This movie doesn't need to exist because it doesn't add anything to the franchise. That simple. The things that Rambo 4 did well, this film doesn't do as well. It's not as violent or graphic, and the action pales in comparison. It's Rambo in name only. It looks cheap too.

The good.

Stallone is great as Rambo and he literally looks like a freak on screen. He looked awesome in his battle outfit. His acting is also good. All the actor did well. The Mexican villains were good, especially "El Flaco", played by Oscar Jeaneda. They all sound authentic and the Spanish sound real, unlike a lot of shows like Breaking Bad or Narcos.

The story is simple, but it moves quick and once Rambo goes to Mexico there are moments of violence to keep things interesting. The film doesn't feel long at all, so that's good. There's a great montage of scenes during the credits of the old films that lead to a new scene. In a way, those scenes remind you of how much better the old film were by comparison.

The Bad

It's cheap looking with weird zoomed in shots and bad green screen shots in two scenes. The final act, it's cool, but not violent or graphic enough. They're too quick and dark, so you can't really see the damage.

Some scenes are rushed, which can be good sometimes but also bad.

The music is not as good as Rambo 4 either. Even the theme in the beginning wasn't as good as R4.

Overall, as a Rambo fan, I'm disappointed. I can't recommend the film to anyone unless they can watch it for free or if the film is playing a on tv. It's a good tv movie. Or if you're on a plane.

Rambo 4 was a much better film and ending to the saga.

Who cares. If you even remotely like the Rambo films I'm sure this will be more than enjoyable.

Called it on the gore lol

Real shame too because Rambo 4 was the perfect rebuttal to all of those long existing jokes that Rambo 2 and 3 suffered greatly from A-Team death syndrome.

Rambo 4 is gorier than most horror movies.

Does anyone give him a challenge at all or does he just cut thru everybody with zero effort.

I don’t watch Rambo for gore, I really like the score and all the pros listed above are what matter to me, sounds like I’ll enjoy it overall.
