A chick took him out pretty easily.

THOR - 8 / 10

Just watched it for the second time - all the stars really did align for this one; great cast, great director, great story, great action / effects.

Really good film. :duff

Come on - spit it out.
Worst Marvel Studios film after Ironman 2 IMO.

The movie looked very fake and gaudy too me. Way too much obvious CGI. Never thought Hemsworth was a good Thor. I like Evans as Cap, Downey Jr. as Stark, and Ruffalo/Norton as Hulk, but Hemsworth is on a much lower scale than all of them IMO.

At the end of the day it just seems like an extremely watered down version of the real Thor. A pseudo Thor.

Hiddleston as Loki is always fun to watch though.

So you think Dark World was better?

What do you mean by watered down? He seems really accurate to the comics personality wise, although I guess he could be blonder :lol but that'd be my only minor complaint.

Forgot about Dark World. Idunno. I had lost so much interest in the Avengers-verse by the time I saw that I don't think I really formed an opinion of it, and I hardly remember it. Something about evil space elves that resembled Teletubbies. :lol

Well, maybe he is supposed to be like that in the comics. I'm kinda referring to the real Thor. Thor the god of thunder. Which reminds me how much I dislike the technologically advanced futuristic concept. I wish he had just been an actual god.

I don't think Hemsworth has any charisma as the character. He just comes off as somewhat of a big dumb oaf. And like I said, I think Hemsworth as an actor is inferior to the other Avengers cast as well.

Well, young Thor is a dumb oaf, that's why I like him so much :lol I recommend you read the Gorr the god butcher arc if you ever want some Thor comics.

And it would be kind of weird to have them being "real" gods, since in Marvel you also have characters like Ares whose source is an entirely different mythology, that's why "gods" in comics translates to just "superior beings" not actual "gods".

Also, there is still magic in Thor's universe, and Marvel had a chance to show it with Malekith who was the greatest wizard in all the 9 realms, but nope, they made him generic.

I found The Dark World lacking overall, but I still adore the first Thor. Everything worked great in that movie.

Maleficent: 8/10
I felt like this could've used that extra half hour - it felt rushed in places, but I still really enjoyed it. I loved some of the twists and how it turned things on its head. The scenes with Maleficent and Aurora were well done - great performances by Jolie and Fanning. Will buy the blu-ray.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 10/10
As I said in the DOFP vs. TWS thread, everything about this movie is perfect. Saw it one last time at my theater before the long wait until the blu-ray. I don't have any dollar theaters that close to me.

I still need to rate X-Men, but I'm having trouble deciding on that one without a second viewing.

Fair enough, we're all different.

It's funny you mention Hemsworth in that way actually, because initially - I thought they'd lost their minds casting him for the role. Me being an Aussie, my frame of reference with Hemsworth goes deeper than one or two Hollywood bit parts. His first real claim to fame was on an Aussie soap called 'Home & Away' - & that was all I could really think of when THOR was announced. Going off his time on that, I couldn't fathom the decision - & I was dead against it to be honest. :lol FF a few years on, & of course I think otherwise now, & I'm a bit regretful that I painted him in a negative light - he's good. Someone else might've been ideal, but Chris did well.

I don't agree with you about the effects looking cheap - that's just not true, & I can't recall anything like that in the film. The only thing that was kind of weak to me was casting Natalie as Jane Foster. I'm a big fan of Natalie, but in this film? They could've gone with someone a little more convincing for her role - she just came across as a flustered Natalie Portman driving a bus around, to me. :lol

Before I saw it the first time - I was expecting to hate it - & was pleasantly surprised. The second time? Like it even more now. :)
