Fury - 7/10 - Just a typical well done modern WWII movie with a predictable ending. Pretty good war violence.

The Guest - 7/10 - Another by the numbers flick, but a enjoyable ride. The early 80's John Carpenter like score is a plus.

Watched Fury recently aswell. Good, but that final battle seemed a bit unnecessary in the context of the story. Did I miss why it was important to defend that area which was seemingly abandoned and was just somewhere they happened to run over a mine while on their way to somewhere else?

because it seems to me Pitt got almost his entire crew and himself killed because he didn't want to abandon a tank

They were ordered to hold dem crossroads (protecting a clear path to supply trains and a camp full of allied nurses and rear-echelon supplies troops).
It's just that they've lost three Shermans en route.

:lol Yeah.. my ratings shouldn't be confused with a claim that a movie is great or even good compared to other films. I like A LOT of crappy flicks. I rate based on my enjoyment. No more, no less. :wave

Actually when you said "TMNT" did you mean the CGI flick where that's the official title? I guess I assumed you meant the new one with Megan Fox. I have no idea whether or not the cartoon one is any good.

It was fantastic. There were some surprisingly funny moments, which was good because his physical deterioration was heart-breaking to watch. Redmayne did a great job. There were a few moments in which I was pulled out of the movie a bit because I saw him instead of Hawking but there weren't many. That part was absolute Oscar bait and he pulled it off.
Yeah, he did have plenty of humorous moments. And just the timeline of his body's breakdown had me balling. It really did pull some heartstrings seeing him do that; especially when he was unable to climb up the rest of the stairs during that dinner, and his son is witnessing it all. Redmayne really did deserve that Oscar, he did a phenomenal job especially in that end conference scene. Just wow!

What Riddick said. Also:
Yeah, Pitt did seem to get them killed; but it was out of duty and the fact that he has a grudge against the SS. I believe that is the reason that kind of forced him to stay through it. Naturally though, it was a bit of what you said about the mine. They had to continue going forward, it just happened to be a location nearing their designation, and unlucky coincidence.

I heard the CGI one was good to an extent of a Turtle film. I did like the new one, obviously not perfect; but decent.

John Wick- 6/10 - It's alright...
I just saw this and think I rate it about the same. Was OK, but nothing to write home about. Revenge action movies can be fun though, and this was that in certain parts. Love the idea of Lester Freeman from the Wire as a hired assassin though. They should make that it's own movie. And Lt. Daniels was the hotel check-in guy, while Al Swearengen owned the hotel.

There was something anticlimactic about it, imo. The action was pretty good. Reeves had some great moves in the film and can still pull off the action scenes, but there was nothing truly impressive or unique. I don't know, maybe we're jaded :lol

I do like the idea of the hotel/underground club for assassins . It was like a different world, a neutral place where all the professional killers know each other, even if they're enemies. A sort of Casablanca...but for killers, never seen that before, and they should definitely expand that element in the sequel. Maybe there are more neutral places like that in other cities and countries. I can just imagine a situation where Wick and some other great assassin are fighting and trying to kill each other, and Wick goes into the Hotel/Club as a last resort to take a timeout, and he and the other killer sit and have coffee and talk while they're there, like Pacino and Deniro in Heat.

:lol I never understood the appeal of those movies :ohbfrank:

Same here, I tried to watch the first one or was it the... second one? I... I dunno, I couldn't watch the whole thing.

And why there are so many? I don't get it

I watched the first Saw once, years ago & I thought it was clever.

That said, I absolutely detest those kinds of films normally, so needless to say, I've steered well clear of the rest since. :lol

Saw two worthwhile movies this weekend -

John Wick - 8/10. Perfect vehicle for Reeves. Great action, solid plot, simple revenge flick done right.

Kingsman - 8/10. Tarantino meets Bond. Well thought out, solid pacing, great acting, and excellent action. I'm not sure Jackson was the best person for the villain, as he tended to pull me out of it any time he was on screen, but the rest of the cast was terrific.

If you're into action movies, check them both out.
