Dune is one of those movies, that even though I know it is muddled and has a lot of problems, I still like it. I guess its a guilty pleasure.

Still, I'd love to see it done properly, Lynch crammed too much into one movie.

I agree, I still love that movie for some reason. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. The Sci-Fi TV series was apparently closer to the novels and I enjoyed it for the most part, but I still can watch that movie any time it's on TV.

I really enjoy this movie. I hadn't seen it in many years, but I remembered the characters and many of those stories. How this is compelling, I can't say.

From the way he tells it, the studio butchered his work. But I don't know if it could have been totally salvaged. His heart didn't seem to be in it. Jodorowski was the way to go, though that probably would have guaranteed an even worse commercial failure.

I LOVE Lynch’s Dune. The designs are spectacular. I’ve read the book several times and I don’t have too many issues with the changes Lynch made. I enjoy the movie for what it is. I also watched Jorodowski’s Dune documentary and honestly I’m glad/relieved he didn’t get to do it! I tried to watch the Sci-Fi channel mini series but I couldn’t get into it.

I was totally let down by Dune

same here.

mostly because I had read the book and it blew my mind.Herbert created a world that was futuristic but also very spiritual.Anyway I did not have that much hope for the film because so much of the dialogue is non spoken in the book.I saw the film only to see how they were going to do it.And the film sucked big time for me.Even though I really liked many of the actors in the film. And some of the visual concepts were pretty good and some childish like the guild navigators folding space.
The tech is there to do it now,so maybe we will get a good remake some day.

Blade 10/10. Like RDJ is to IM, Snipes is to Blade. Movie was so unique and so grounded. I think it beats most of Marvel and DC.

Yeah I've always had an affinity for Lynch's Dune too. Just something about the designs and overall tone of the movie that I've always found fascinating.

Completely agree! I love the book just as much, but Lynch injected his version of dune with such a... texture and tone that’s irreplaceable. I love it through and through. And when I want the book version I can always reread that anyway

The music rocks too

Jumanji 2: 5/10

I wouldn't have chosen this one of my own volition, but I wanted to do something nice for my wife and actually watch a movie with her for once. I was surprised when the trailers at the beginning of the DVD were all for children's films. Not movies that adults and children could watch, but stuff like the Donkey CG movie that is solely meant for little kids. I knew this one was PG-13, but the trailers told me who they were really trying to target with this movie. Beyond that, it was more or less what I expected it to be. Very much by the numbers, characters who learn to respect and work with one another, dumb humor, dumb action, audience pleasing ending. But I laughed once or twice, and the red headed woman was something to behold.

I just watched NBC's live production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

For the record, I'm not in any way religious or Christian at all. I just grew up listening to the album cause my parents had it. Still have the double LP somewhere.

Anyway. I loved it. Cast nailed it, gave it their all, music was awesome, Alice freaking Cooper stole the show in his cameo.

I'm such a cynical *******, so I'm shocked by how much I enjoyed it. Got misty eyed and everything.

I thought the production was great also but thought Alice Coper was miscast and did a dreadful job with Herods Song, what should have been a show stopper turned into a sad performance for an iconic rock star.

My other problem was John Legend, he was great for the part but lacked the vocal range of the other singers who have played the Jesus.

Having said that... this is probably the best staged performance of Superstar I have seen and my favorite version of this I have seen.

Yeah Alice wasn't so much playing Herod as just showing up as Alice Cooper....but I thought it was fun.

Well it is being redone by Denis Villeneuve, so it will probably be really good.
