I actually wondered that as well... maybe they did some specfic tinting to the plastic? Its a tough call if its paint or the cast color...but either way the skin-tone is fantastic, very lifelike

Ya, no matter how it's done, the end result is great, but the effect almost seems like a hybrid of HT-style and traditional SSC. I'd prefer new SSC heads to be like Gandalf in the skin tone department.
I'll probably be lynched for asking, but when does Gandalf wear the dark robe he come comes with folded in the box?

Got mine today. Not much time to mess around with him on lunch, but I think I have a man-crush on my Gandalf. Freakin' awesome. I would say that he's tied with Old Ben for the BEST EVER Sideshow fig, and I haven't even futzed him very much. The only nit I have, and a very small one, is that his face and hands are too pink. Otherwise a home run from SS.

Grrrrgh...he looks so awesome! I will be getting mine tonight and was considering selling off all the LOTR 12"ers I have since the line is "on hold" but now I don't think I will (at least for now!). After seeing this, it really makes me sad that the rest of the fellowship is unlikely to be produced.

Just because the line is "on hold" is no reason to sell these figures IMO. Who knows when some other company will make them...if ever.

I really don't understand all this "I'm gonna quit/sell all my LOTR figures" attitude...
I mean, sure, it would be nice to have the whole fellowship but these are nice figures that can be displayed on their own.
So if SST decide not to make any more SW figures, will everybody sell their collections as well?
Are there busts or statues of the whole fellowship? Is somebody planning on getting the whole fellowship in PF format?
So if I get Theoden then I probably need the entire Golden Hall to display him?

I think he removes his cloak at some point outside the mines. But between Rivendell and Moria thats the one he wears.

Oh, OK, so the travel cloak is only good for the hiking scene with the crows and crossing the ice mountains... hooded cloak for almost everything else.
