Awesome work MF!

With yours and GBs pix I want my staff to light up!

Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

To me.... EVERYTHING needs a repaint. :lol

And when it comes to you it all looks better with one :rock The paint work on Gandalf is probably the closest to HT quality we've seen from Sideshow and the warmth of the skin tone might be even a smidge better. But, I can definitely see how a little extra care could really bring the sculpt out... and you can get rid of that cursed doll-dot!!! :cuss

Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

I just received my Gandalf today and I love him.

The Sculpt is the best I have seen from Sideshow in both Star Wars and LoTR lines I collect. The paint application could have been slightly better in the eyes but that is just a small observation. The wrinkles in the face look wonderful with a hint of shadow. I am glad they didn't try to accent them with paint. The beard is full of detail and with just enough shading to add depth. I cannot say enough about this sculpt.

I also love the costume. I do wish SS could hide the threads a bit more and the material lacks the matty look of the movie but it is a good job none the less. The hat fits nice and is shaped perfectly. You do need the cloak on with the hood adjusted up to keep the hat from looking to high on the head.

The accessories are well done and I do encourage people to check the SS website for reference photos on how to attach the sword because many photos from Freaks show they have it incorrect. The staffs and book are very detailed and well done.

My only gripe is the buck body. My ankles are soooooo looooose that you can spin them and the legs move like a rag doll. Unacceptable. There is no chance my figure can stand in any pose without the stand. For $100, I expect more.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

A couple more from me - this is how I've ended up posing him for display. The last shot's taken in low-light but a good indication of the actual colour of the beard and cloak. Surprised to find myself going without the hat - there's just something more quintessentially McKellen about the hatless look for me. Still wish there was more flexibility with the neck for posing - if you want him to look down, you basically have to bend him at the waist and try and get the buck to hold the pose - but I can't imagine how they could have pulled that off without a tighter neck connector or using a less rigid material for the beard. All in all, this can stand next to HT figures on the shelf and not look out of place - and the more I look at it next to Old Ben, the more I think this is my favourite SS toy EVER. :google

SOOOOO tempted. SOOOOOO broke. Don't even know if I can afford Indy. Male prostitution is not what it used to be.
