Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

I know you are a straight up guy, dont take this personally because you know how much I love Bateman and want him to be as spread out on collectors shelves as much. But not in this way. Not at the cost of the integrity of how it was originally made and marketed.

I am antagonistic to this idea because a situation like this tends to put a big question mark on exactly where do we stop. I know not one Rainman buyer will even think of emailing him about upgrading Full Sets to DX because a majority want to... So why cant we respect that in this case. The customiser's accomodation to his fans shouldnt make his fans hold him ransom in a way. If you get what I mean.

I get it axe. The way I see it, I wouldn't have one if it weren't for you getting the ball rolling so not a peep out of me on this subject anymore.

With that in mind......

Anyone want to sell me their screaming sculpt or overcoat? ;)

Im glad you get the essence of what my issues are with the idea, and not take it personally like I want to squabble like a child about a have and have not issue. The fact that you have been so understanding is why my respect for you has increased simply because you are seeing my argument and not being clouded by personal want. Thank you so much for that.

As for overoat and all, dont worry, you know Iminime offers suit clothings from time to time and its not like a Black Overcoat only comes with a Bateman suit :wink1:

I'm in for the expansion pack.

I like the way the axe can just stand up on its own.

Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

I'm respectful to all but I don't collect these because they are limited, I could never care if the figure I have is one of one or one million.

Not that my jaw doesn't drop because of the craftsmanship and talent in these but it's the kind of art I justify paying for the human talent and manpower for not the limited collectibility of it because we're only here to placate each other for our own edification. We ARE the market. If we all grow out of this these are all worthless and lets face it we are a very small niche market.

If I wanted to invest in limited art, I'd be buying art. It's a better turn around of investment.

It's why I get angry at things like the boardwalk empire one of one. Because It literally takes that option of the character off of the table for others. It's selfish and if I get heat for one thing out of this post and ruffle feathers and its that its the one thing I'll not be shy about voicing strong opinion about.

The rest and this issue at hand I really do see both sides and are respectful to both. And we all had our shot here at one point to get the DX, normal or anything else.

I'm of the variety that if someone wants it and the artist is willing to do it and can make a profit off it have at er.

I'm thrilled for all those who missed out on early Rainman sets are able to get his heads again, it doesn't make me feel like my early head sets are any less valuable in the slightest. The value is to me alone.

My Bateman I think was number three of whatever. I got 1 of whatever for the Jules set. I could care less personally.

I've also emailed A few custom artists that were aforementioned asking if they had any left of this or that. Sometimes the answer was yes and I got something, sometimes the answer was no. But I've never hesitated to ask and I've never broadcasted it either.

Just like another member I respect asked for a secret item that was part of another set in another thread, he got some heat and while I said I agreed with it in principal I'd never resent him for asking. What's the harm? At the end of the day we are all buying overpriced dolls because we like them.

Again though I respect all here and have no intention of rocking boats, this is just my perspective.

So how's the paint on these? I'm curious to know if it's leaning more towards factory i.e Hottoys style paintwork or is it more like individual handpainted work? I can't really judge from the pics. Looks great though.

Hand painted. Well painted. High end. Not Nathan Eakins level, but very very good. On par with rainman/aeon.

Regarding DX... Ive been on both sides of this coin. I wasn't happy when Kato and Sunhoc started remaking Morpheus clothes and sculpts but I swallowed it. Then when I expressed interest in Robbie's secret items that he's making with his gurney (because I already had fullmetals gurney) I got blasted. In the end I'm buying Robbie's gurney (and hoping to sell fullmetals). For the sake of consistency I'm now of the camp that says "who cares?" I say if Denny agrees then cool, doesn't bother me. I'm not going to lie, I'd be first in line to buy a rainman Marla fullset if he decided to open them up for sale again.

Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

I have to agree with the "where does it end" idea. I'm far from being an "elitist" and I like to see as many people get what they want as possible, but the line has to be drawn somewhere to keep these as "limited collectibles". No reason to talk on it too much but there are unwritten rules to the game. Anyone who has been around clearly knows what they are; sometimes those lines get blurred by selfish wants.

The rules bend here and there which is cool but it's best to just follow them for the most part to keep it fair for everyone.

I do get the argument that it's hard to buy a product when you don't see final pics of exactly what you will be receiving. I love Denny and I'm not trying to be offensive, but I don't like this constant leap of faith. I do have faith in Iminime and I prove my loyalty and appreciation by my continued patronage; but I don't think that I should have to continue to buy semi-blindly. I do appreciate the commitment to improve the proto, but I rather see pics of the final then to be told not to worry, the final will be better. What's better or a big enough improvement is subjective

Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

I'm all about the accessory pack. Axe has a good point; it's only going to happen with a large enough demand. If people could express their interest here instead of going to eBay and elsewhere, then this could become a reality.

I keep forgetting the video tape!!!! Good shout Ray! And I agree that gloves can be sourced out on the market. Again not to be offensive but Iminime hasn't perfected hands yet.

It only makes sense that the pack includes accurate bits that aren't easily sourced out and about.

I think the clear choices are the nail gun (others are out there, none are accurate), two-tone Rollie, Walkman, video tape.

Aside from the color, there isn't a noticeable enough difference for me between the ZCWO phone and the screen prop. If people would like to see it make the cut then I don't have a problem with it.... unless it would have to replace something from the 4 items I mentioned. If all 5 items can be done then that's good by me.

I like the way the axe can just stand up on its own.

Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

Pop, you have to consider what constitutes a limited edition. I have been a collector of 1/24 Danbury and Franklin Mint cars for 15 years. In that time, we have seen the Franklin Mint start to go the LE route exclusively and the numbers started to grow to 10,000. Meanwhile, the Danbury Mint started with LE runs at 10,000 and settled somewhere between 2,500 - 5,000. GMP came on board and started doing 500 pieces. WCPD was doing runs of 100 pieces. We also found out that while we were being told that an item was limited to a certain number, they were allowing extra for damaged cars, defective cars, etc. In the end, nobody really knew what was out there. When they would make an offering to a specific time frame, like a three month period or a given calendar year, although considered a limited edition, they never tell the amount produced.

So, to me, a limited edition on a 1/6 figure is still very limited, even if we all get a figure.

Robbie, how did the tie come out when you re-tied it with the half Windsor?

Yeah but after one of those cars sold out and was announced as such could you still contact the manufacturer and tell him to produce more? The point is not the limited nature. Its the ethic of market and sale of these collectibles. The example you listed doesn't really work here because for one, the nature of marketing and manufacture of this is completely different. It was always specified how much and in what period and how many of what would be sold. And till now these are all considered one time runs. Even if the same character is made by the same company it would mean a new revision to it like a new sculpt etc etc. That doesn't mean v1 owners should be able to upgrade to v2 by paying the cost difference does it?

Point is everything was made explicit and clear during the making, if people wanted more DX sets available or just more normal sets in that time because they feel it was too less and they may miss out then it would be fine as then we can still go ahead with a revised set number in mind. In this custom figure industry the whole point of the certificate is to tell you what no you got so your car example doesn't work here. Each edition being chronicled means there is a method to this all.

Here buyers remorse is dictating the desire to upgrade. That is what I'm against. It doesn't seem legit, and no custom till now has had to go through the idea that after being made and distributed/sold, edition numbers and all start changing because a few didn't have faith in the product and now want in after buying a different edition and instead of going through the secondary market (which they would if it was any other custom release) they want a straight upgrade from their set!

If people took the route that they do with Rainman figures, that is start looking for a DX on sale even after securing a full set, I wouldn't have a problem. Denny is very accommodating to everyone and tries to make everyone happy, but ethically that shouldn't be taken advantage of.

I have to agree, I wish I got the DX, I had the chance but the time has passed, should of had more faith, those that did got rewarded, grats to them, move on and enjoy what you have.

ray,
i was one in the "if you didnt buy it camp" tough luck. but now after what i seen with the sale of the dx wonka i have changed my view. the premium put onto that little figure is now just crazy!! all because it was a very limited piece. if there was a secondary offering after the intial release you might have more oompa's out there and maybe this rare overpriced figure wouldnt have happened. here now is the sticking point for me. i agree with ax totaly. it was made a dx for a reason and should stay a dx for a reason. just like what rm does. but, yes but, if it was to come down to 10-15 or even less guy's wanting to upgrade to a dx i am all in favor of that so these collector's can get the figure they want. another "but" you would have to buy all the options. not just a coat, or a sculpt,. the dx would have to stay intact. so now your figure has been upgraded to a dx. this also might be a great option for a future release for any custom artist. offer secondary dx purchases after the sell out for guys that want to upgrade after the fact, if they want to limit them fine, but make it an option. eg. RM or IMINIME, make a figure,. 25 are dx vesrions,. hold the accessories for what # they agree on to add to the original dx offering, if its 10 and all 10 sell you now have 35 dx versions. if its 6 you have 31. put a time frame on it, 2 weeks after 1 month whatever i dont care, then destroy the extra accessories. now comes the tricky part, the cost for the cusrtomizer to make and hold these extra's hoping people will want to upgrade to a dx after the release. this is whay it probably would never happen, unless the cost passe's on to the people that want to upgrade to the dx. the after market dx's will now cost more, but if the collector doesnt care it can work, the other option is too wait on the extra's uintil people decide and how many decide to upgrade after the release. they would have to wait for these to be made at the customizers leisure.too bad because it would relly be a good idea and a fair game for people that changed their mind. not sure if the original dx buyers would go for it like i would. now i am not in favor of just buying the accessories for somebody that bashed a figure. that would really not go over well. but helping people get the figure they want without compromising the integrity of the release would be cool. like you say, who cares how many are made. i now agree with this.:)

Re: NOW SHIPPING! [iminime] Wall Street Killer - Patrick Bateman

Axe, you misunderstood what I was saying. My car reference was to point out what is considered limited. In the 1/24 car world vs. the 1/6 figure world. I was only using this as as a comparison and was in no way suggesting that it should or shouldn't be allowable to change your mind, upgrade after the fact, etc.
