Ok, so is it along the lines of "Call of Juarez" x 100 or....
Is it GTA thrown back 100 ?
I've not played Call of Juarez, but from what I've read it's more action-oriented than GTA.
Lots of folks here with avatars and signatures even though the game hasn't been released yet. Are you guys privy to something, or is your interest just based on anticipation? I'm genuinely curious, because I'm considering pre-ordering, but would prefer to wait until I hear some solid hands-on feedback.
It's just anticipation, plus Rockstar's track record. Rockstar really hasn't made a bad game. Sure GTA4 was annoying in hindsight, but it was still better than most other games, a great way to waste time. RDR is an open-world game, which pretty much always rock, with what looks to be like great graphics. Time will tell if areas repeat, which is the main thing holding Just Cause 2 back from greatness.
If GTA4 didn't have that friendship system built in, it would've been a much better game. They put too much stuff in. Those branching choices didn't really have much of an impact. . .or as much as it should have.
The thing I really like is that Rockstar keeps taking elements of their previous games and adding and modifying them to make new games. It's like what you get with Tomb Raider games, but across a wider spectrum of games. This fame and honor system sounds like what they wanted the friendship system in GTA4 to be. They wanted your choices to have a lasting impact on the game, but all it really did was limited the choice of missions you have. You could either be friends with Playboy X or Dwayne, what's the difference?? Not much. So, they changed that this time to have different characters respond to you in different ways, to truly increase replayability and lasting value. And we didn't have to wait until GTA5 to see it.
Of course, that's all on paper, how gameplay actually turns out, we will see. I do notice that usually all these little gripes are glossed over in the gaming media before hand. Nowadays, everybody loves to moan about how lame GTA4 was, but 2 years ago everybody was talking about how it was the greatest game ever. Right now, every gaming site is slobbering on this game's johnson with no complaints. We shall see. . .
