Keep at it my friend, when you do get in it'll feel that much more sweet.

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Andrew, you're one of the most dedicated people I've ever met. Once you set your sites on something, you go after it with 110% effort. I know you will get there! :duff

Well, except for that one time when I wanted to attend the Main Event at CV...

it's all in who you know & who you're friends with these days

As with most anything, it doesn't matter if you have the grades or qualifications, it's who you know. Chances are some of those that got in there were much lower than you. You need to find someone with pull to get you in.

I have to believe that this is not the case, as I've been going at this program for the past two and a half years, and have been entrenched in the courses with all the others going for this and every other limited program. We all have the same duress and stress. The major factor causing the situation to get worse now is that more and more students are returning as jobs have dried up, especially here in Vegas. If I was just one year earlier, this likely would not have been an issue and I would very likely be halfway to graduation already. There shouldn't be any "who you know" business going on because there is full transparency with the process. As I did last year, I will go in this week to find out exactly how many points got in, what others had, where the cutoff was, etc. And all that information will be at my disposal.

Sounds like you're doing the right things. Keep at it. The TEAS is retardedly easy so don't sweat that.

I'm counting on it, but as I will be awarded points for my grade on the TEAS, I'm going to still study my butt off for it, and have four chances to get it right. Not that I should need more than one.

Keep at it my friend, when you do get in it'll feel that much more sweet.

Thanks! And thanks to everyone else for the words of encouragement. :D

When you take it, do your best to memorize the questions. If you do have to take it again they give you the exact same test. Good luck.

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Keep at it furystorm. Are there any other radiation therapy programs out in the Las Vegas area? I think you should cast a bigger net if you only applied to one program.

I think your strategy is smart, for these competitive programs you really have to go above and beyond the minimum requirements. I'd also talk to someone who handles the admission for the program so you can make your application more competitive because there are things they look for that they might not post on their websites or even talk about in their orientations.

you're still young, you'll see how things really work eventually :rotfl

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

I'm 37, but thanks for saying I'm still young. :lol

For the record, I already have my BFA and have been in the workforce for 15 years. Just going back for a positive change.

Also, I actually had a letter submitted on my behalf to the Chairman of the department by a mutual acquaintance, a close personal friend of the Chairman actually.

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Isn't there another place to get this program that does not have as many people trying to get in?

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Not locally. I'm somewhat stuck in my current situation being upside down in the house and having a fairly well paying casino position. You would think that UNLV would offer this program, but they do not and therefore I am stuck with CSN as my only alternative with which I can work out attending school and continuing to work to pay the mortgage.

At least CSN is about 1/3 of the cost of UNLV anyway. But I really do want to get into this field, and it is highly specialized.

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Good luck to you, Fury! They really need to start another class so more can get in.

If I have to take a pay cut and pay more for my healthcare, I'm seriously thinking about going back for more schooling. I have to work two jobs to count as one. Would be nice to just work one!

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

You're just too smart, overqualified, and they don't want you ____ing up the bell curve! :lecture:lecture:lecture :exactly:

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Fury, I have had some experience in applying for a few highly competitive programs. I have two pieces of advice (most of which you may have considered but I will offer it anyway):

1. Since the number of applicants seems to continually rise, I recommend finding ways to go above and beyond with extra activities (ie, volunteer work) to put you ahead of the competition. Additionally, if you require recommendation letters then I recommend you work to build really strong relationships with your letter writers. I have found that helping letter writers on their pet projects goes a long way. Oftentimes, the strength of the recommendation letter makes a huge difference.
2. If possible, apply to more than one program. If you are able to take the shotgun approach and apply nationwide your chances of getting in increases dramatically.

In any case, I wish you the best of luck. Receiving a rejection letter can be so demoralizing but it makes it so much sweeter when you eventually get in!

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

WOW CSN is that hard to get into? I plan on going back to UNLV and get a second degree this fall and I really hate giving them anymore money...

Good luck next time Fury...

Re: Rejected for my program for the second time!

Amazing news today as I was just accepted to my program in the eleventh hour!

So even though I have orientation tomorrow, and classes begin in a mere twelve days, I am still ecstatic. I think I ran around the house to every room for about ten minutes yelling OMFG over and over again. And then I called in to accept, and then I emailed in to accept. Can't be to careful. I only had until 6 PM tonight to accept. So it left me wondering what I would have done if the call came last week? I was off the grid and away from my phone and the internet. I would have had no way of knowing that I was pulled up as the alternate, and would have missed this opportunity!

What is meant to be, as they say! :D

So to recap:

10 positions
38 applicants
5 tied for alternate position (me being one of them)
1 unfortunately had to bow out at the last minute, last night
1 minor coronary this morning when I heard the news

all adds up to

1 very very happy furystorm! :D

Now the only thing left to do is:

:panic: :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic:
