Yeah, Ive seen them all before, but years in between. Never watched part 1 right before part 2, etc. First one holds up well....2nd one does have an 80's over-the-top feel for the first half, but 2nd half is fun and the ending was good...
I remember seeing part 3, but out of context of part 2. Will be really curious when it all 'comes together' as it were.
And yeah, this post conversion 3d nonesense needs to die. Real 3d or nada

Same I've seen em all before, just never in a back to back marathon though. First one just finished, I love the ending to it. Now off to start the second one
I think that's why I'm looking forward to it. In the back of my head I know it will probably be rubbish. but meh I get excited for anything Resident Evil.
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Silent Hill as well. When I first saw the movie I thought, "oh wow that was really good I wanna see it again!". Saw it again and thought "oh well...that was pretty good not as good the first time through" and just went down from there. Now I can barely watch the film.
I think I was just excited about the monsters being on screen and the fact that it looked good, cinematography wise, but they sorta missed what Silent Hill was.
The first half of the movie was just like silent hill 1 and 2 - in tone and story - literally; the moment the 'special' townsfolk lady showed up (that eventually gets skinned), the movie went into the crapper.....totally deviated from any silent hill game at that point. The movie look in the 2nd half was totally inspired by the Wicker Man - sans the nudity and music...LOL. I hated Silent Hill the movie
Ok, just finished watching RE3, and gotta say when you watch em back-to-back-to-back there is a cohesiveness to it that I quite enjoyed. Of course, I've played only RE4, so I have nothing to base the movies on except themselves
Milla is really an expressive actress - cant wait for RE4....based on the trailer beginning in what appears to be Toyko, looks like part 4 starts where 3 ends....and if the look of part 4 based on the trailer is anything like the actual movie, RE4 will at least look great.
Went back and re-read some earlier posts; I get why people would hate this series if you are a fan of the games. Seems like what I imagined - names are similar, but situations, characterizations are totally different....I tried to play RE1 years ago, but couldnt do it......
I'm going to check out the matinee tomorrow. I watched the first two movies earlier this week, but couldn't stomach finishing the third one. That one is really horrible. Hopefully 4 is worth the trouble.

If up to it, post a mini review when you get home. Only reviews I care about are the fans'. i suspect if you liked the first 3, its more of the same to a degree, but with 3d....not a bad thing imo
Listening to the milla Jovovich commentary is worth the price of the rental....fav line from her in the first, '.......oh, the tw@t shot'
I wanna know if she is actually aging? Considering she is 8 years old since part 1, she looks amazing still
It was a meh experience. To me all the RE films are passable entertainment. Mindless fun, at times. Gets boring in certain parts, just like any of the previous sequel. But After Life doesn't offer much more than the others, save the 3D. I will tell you this, a No. 5 will be made. And no I am not spoiling it for any of you. Can't spoil what doesn't have a storyline to begin with.
It had some nice action and the cinematography was wonderfully shot (disregarding the obvious CG held within). The story is a pretty basic, group of survivors trying to survive/escape from their current desperate situation, but come one, what else were you expecting? Fans of zombie/post apocalyptic films get treated to some impressive shots and some downright awesome zombie kills. The monsters were great. They looked pretty much spot on to their game counterparts and kept true to those natures and looked great doing it. The 3D was well done. It enhanced the action a lot and really made those sequences pop. (especially a couple of those zombie kills I mentioned). It's not like that other post production 3D rubbish they've been smothering us with
The characters were decent. There wasn't a lot of time to build them but they did a good job with what they had. Alice is still the main focal point of the story and Milla does a fantastic job with her. I felt she gave a good bit of heart to this character throughout the movies and she does the same here. The characters from the game aren't just brushed aside to emphasize Milla's character in this one. They definitely get their time to shine and get in some good scenes but for this RE fan I would have liked a little more but alas they still did great.
The score was rad. Sort of a, rock/techno/industrial thing going on, much in line with the first and third movies. I dug it .
If you're looking for this movie to be the Perfect Resident Evil movie you've been wanting them to make...it isn't, but you already knew that. If you didn't like the first three movies you probably won't like this one. It strays pretty far from the games while still throwing in a few little game nods (sometimes word for word conversations from the game) They did bring back a bit of the survival horror roots. That part of it felt right.
Alice's powers are taken from her pretty early on in the film, so no psychic battles
Now to the thing I was looking forward too the most, Wesker (Yes I'm aware this doesn't matter as much as the bigger picture but meh). The actor who portrayed him...well...he did okay, as long as he wasn't talking He just tried too hard to be pompous and arrogant sounding. It didn't feel natural. In action though he was pretty bad ass. His fight scenes were, for the most part, pulled straight from RE5 and they did a good job of recreating them on screen.
But God dammit he went out like a punk...and I frickin knew they were going to do that.
They left it open for a 5th film but who knows where they'll go with it.
All in all Not a deep story, some fantastic action, great creatures. The 3D really helps this movie look cool. If you didn't like the first ones because they strayed from the games then you will probably have the same complaints for this. But if you liked the previous movies I think you'll enjoy Resident Evil Afterlife.
Thanks, Biojex...sounds like I'll enjoy this one like the others
Were there many people at the midnight showing?
I assumed the actor playing Wesker in this one is different than the last? Too bad, I liked him - in what little capacity we got.....
Seeing this at the noon show....
Interesting thing about Paul Anderson directing - when I watched the 3rd movie commentary, he almost scoffed when there was the moment between Carlos and Alice - the director was praising the 'little moments' and Paul Anderson was 'yeah, I dont like a lot of that - just a little' or something similar. I am like, 'DUDE, movies need moments like that'.....
Yeah it's a different actor from the one in Extinction. I thought the guy in Extinction looked pretty spot on. The guy in Afterlife is almost 10 years younger I believe. IMO he looks way too young, but if you wanted to take a leap of faith you could think it's a side effect from whatever drugs he was taking to get his powers.
~~I was going to see it today, but the ball and chain said she wants to see it so now I have to wait until Sunday to catch it.
Just came back from a midnight screening of the non 3D version. Biojex pretty much said everything I wanted to say. Some really fantastic action sequences and kills, and I love the fight scene with Wesker, though a little short. Some of my additional thoughts...
There were some corny moment, especially that particular one near the end, (those of you who have watched it will not 'miss it')
Screen time wise, it's more balance this time around with Ali getting her decent share of scenes. Wentworth has less and he plays Chris like how he plays Scofield in Prison Break. It's an interesting portrayal (I love Prison Break) but videogame fans might not like it. Their reunion are also lacking emotionally (though there is a plot device that might actually explain the lack of it in that scene.)
But the soundtrack, damn, it's fantastic. I really love it. I love it so much I want to buy the soundtrack now. It fits perfectly with the theme of the movie.
And Millia Jovovich, that's the only reason I ever need to watch this movie. She is my goddess and always will be. Now I want a HT figure of her. HT did you hear me? I want it now!!!!!!!
Overall, if you like the other films, you will enjoy this one. If you hated them, then nothing really new for you then. I appreciate the filmmakers trying to add to the ever growing mythology of Resident Evil and it is always interesting to see the movies and games borrowing/paying homage to each other in each subsequent games and movies.
ps-Stay put during the credits for an extra cameo. I really like it and thought it was way cool. Really hope they will make another one.
Came back from seeing this, and its on par with the others. It felt like two movies in one - first half: w them trying to resolve the whole Alaska storyline 2nd half basically a prison movie with zombies.....I liked it, but I could have used more of an emotional connection with the characters. K-mart didnt even have a line in this one......
Milla looks beautiful as ever...I swear she is truly ageless
Update: holy crap, went to wikipedia to see how old she is and found out she's married to - and has a child with, Paul W. S. Anderson! DUDE!!!!!!!! No accounting for taste, I guess!! LOL....must be that Brit accent of his
