who gives if he can't walk and shoot, not a big problem IMO... Just takes some getting used to for the noobs...

It matters a lot, the control scheme is unnatural-not just because it's different from similar games. Seeing as how they're doing a lot to make a very high-end game that it's kept back so much by the horrible controls.
I can understand trying to maintain continuity with the series, but if the previous games had controls like this it's a wonder that they're as popular as they are. It's going to turn away new players just because of the controls.

Ok there bra you're making this seem as if it's a big issue and that the game will be a big fail for new players... I think you're wrong because re 4 brought in a whole new lot of players that never played re before in their life... Once you look at the game as a whole and how wonderful it's going to be, those controls don't really matter anymore... And I wouldn't go as far as saying their horrible, because that's just exaggerating, maybe you just suck at it....:D

It really is a big issue, this game is getting a lot more attention than the others. Many people are being drawn in by the visuals. But the controls just don't make sense. It's like a racing game where you have to stop to change gears, it's unnatural.

Always liked these things, but like this even more cause.....well its Resident Evil.

Gamers have come to expect better from third person controls in the 3-4 years since RE4 was released. RE4 introduced the over-the-shoulder camera as well as the signature movement system. It was great, it was almost perfect - no one complained. However, in the time since, a handful of games have taken the control/camera system rolled out by RE4 and ushered it into modern expectations. Take glances at Gears of War, Dead Space, Dark Sector, and many others and you'll see similarities and improvements, all of which really make RE5's controls look primitive and old by comparison. The clunky new co-op partner controls do nothing but compound the problem.

It's just about keeping up with the times. Beautiful graphics or not, these controls just don't cut it anymore. And it's not about being new to the RE seriest. I hate RE5's controls, and I've played almost every RE game since the first.

Doesn't mean I won't buy the game though, I need to know how the story plays out. :D

EDIT: Thanks for the GT retrospective link, Sniper33!

It's not realistic at all, real people can walk around while shooting.
I was getting at the slow moving aspect of the game, not the targeting and shooting while moving. You don't want him running around everywhere, being able to turn 360 degrees as eays as anything, wouldn't do that in real life and I feel the slow walking / running pace adds to the realism of the game.

I'm not mithered about the controls either, the resident evil 4 style ones worked, so switch to them and hey presto. I agree, control type D is awful. Never tried the others.

OXM gave RE5 a 9.0 in the latest issue. I still haven't gotten around to playing the demo yet. :lol And the only RE game I've played was 4 I think, the one that came out on Gamecube, and I didn't even play that much of it. :monkey3

As a long time RE player, the control scheme is meant to make you feel at a disadvantage in the face of the hordes of zombies. Learning the control scheme good enough to whup their a**es is one of the most rewarding aspects of the game.

My olny gripe is , this isn't looking like a survivial horror title...more of an action game. Hopefully I'm wrong and some of the later stages wiil return to the RE horror roots. If not, I'll just be glad we have Dead Space.

I liked the resident evil 4 controls...which control type do you choose in resident evil 5 to match the controls to resident evil 4?

The gamecube controls were so much better for RE games...

I like type C the best, the right analog stick on type a doesn't move the character just the camera and it makes me sick. And it's the only one without inverted axis'

The controls do seem a bit broken and outdated now especially since Dead Space and Dark Sector were so fluid to control.

Man, that was sweet, I loved it. Are all 5 out yet?

I could be wrong but, for what I understand the control scheme on the demo is not the final one, I read that the game will be run and shoot on the final game. I was also talking to a friend that works at Gamestop and he said the same thing. You can read it here (though it is an old article):
