RE Remake in terms of story and overall creepyness is my favorite of the RE games. In terms of gameplay and my overall favorite so far is 4.

I can totally understand the complaints about 4 however and even I must admit the game wasn't as creepy an previous installments (especally after you leave the village) and I'll even admit at times it felt more like a action game especially once you got to the island. Personally I blame the movies. The RE movies are just action movies with zombies imo and it seems ever since the movie came out, thats when the games became more action oriented rather than survival horror.

I love RE4. But the REmake had the best overall atmosphere...just something about it.

No argument here. The only reason I give RE4 a slight edge over the remake is cause it still had enough suvrvival horror to it to satify me and the new contorls made it much easier to move around. I still found it a little difficult to run around zombies and such in the remake and the backtracking (as in most RE games) got a tad tedious as well. Those are my only real complaints about the remake and why I like RE4 just a tad better than the remake.

I think the fact that I was stuck in a creepy, old mansion added to that feeling. And the fact the enemies weren't infected with a plague but were dead and reanimated I think scared me more than the current enemies. Add that with the darker atmosphere and slowly moving yet freaky, corpse enemies, just put it over the top.

I wish we could go back to zombies with this gen of consoles. Zombies are way cooler than los plagas.

I just read IGN's review of RE5 and in it the reviewer mentions how campy and B-movie the story is. This both disappoints me and meets my expectations. The Resident Evil franchise has always leaned towards camp, but even it was campy, the story was dark and interesting with great characters.

Apparently RE5 doesn't progress the story much, which is disappointing.

I really liked how in the remake of RE that they took out the poor acting, cheesy dialogue, and had a more serious tone to it. It made it darker, more real, and scarier in the end. Even RE4 I thought was getting away from the camp and B-movie aspect of it...hmmm...not good.

Agreed. RE5 hopes to destroy all that by introducing this guy:

Meet Ricardo Irving, the goofiest character in any Resident Evil game, ever, apparently.

yea but i heard he's a boss so it doesnt make a diffrence plus i always thought he was creepy

Can somebody in the US get me a copy of the collectors edition - we only have the steelbook in the UK.

Please pm me if you can help.

Thanks.

I would love a remake of Resident Evil 2.

oh man, how I second that notion! I've been wishing for an re 2 remake ever since the first was remade yet I have this little gut feeling it will never see the light of day... :(

So with all the new info coming out. Is this game still a must have or is it demoted to a rental?

To me, it is a must have. If you like the FPS like Halo or CoD, then probably not. If you have followed the story and love survival horror games, then it's a must have.

He's barely in it and not really that goofy, he is one of the boss characters.

This is a must-have game, but I think people will be disappointed with the length (it's about 6-8 hours long) and how much less scary it is and more action oriented.

The mercenary characters choices aren't that good either. i am gonna beat it, then sell it asap. 6-8 hours is a joke.

What is the deal with the games length? some say 6-8, others 12 (like IGN UK)....what is the deal? And if I remeber, wasn't RE4 12-15 minimum?

The IGN U.S. review claims 10-12 hours first playthrough. RE5 is built for multiple playthroughs and even more so if you consider Mercenaries.

I've dropped $60 for shorter games (say hello, Prince of Persia's 7 hours), I don't have any problem with RE5's playtime as long as it's a complete experience.

It's definitely not 12 hours, each level is only like 15-45 minutes, and there's only 16 levels/parts (6 chapters). I've completed 11 out of 16 and I'm only at five and a half hours. And at the end of each level it grades you on stuff like hit accuracy and how fast you complete it and I've never gotten anything above Satisfactory as far as completion time.
