Good thing I read this post before watching the trailer, I might not now. Thanks Snake :duff

Yeah I'd stay away from it if you're looking to see it. The first trailer was enough, without ruining anything.

There's also a cemetery scene.

Part of me thinks that was NASA just assuming he was dead, and held a mock burial.

DOES look like Prometheus left overs- I know it's not but same vibe- same trailer muscic. For Ridley it look very pedestrian to me.

Saw this tonight and it was FANTASTIC. The book was a great read, and the movie totally did it justice. Matt Damon was perfectly cast. Loads of charm, and hit the emotional beats just right.

This is What happens when Scott stays away from the script and do What he do best, directs.
A good movie.

Might check this out. Is it worth seeing in IMAX or should I save my annual IMAX viewing for Bond?

Loved it! Throughly entertained from start to finish. Definitely one of, if not the film of the year so far.

I never read the novel and went in completely fresh and unaware of the story and characters. I left thinking that this was Scott's best film since Gladiator, maybe his best since Blade Runner (yes, going back that far, and I loved Blackhawk Down and American Gangster and think the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is glorious). Scott has been sorely missing the mark lately--Robin Hood, Prometheus, Gods and Kings. Utter failures despite great visuals and cinematography. But The Martian is a pure ****ing cinema at its best with a story that is compelling and beautiful and a character you are pulling for from the very beginning and its phenomenal. And everybody else in it is just as great. Great characters, great story. And all set on Mars and in space. What more could I ask for. Oh, yeah. Ridley Scott turning in his best film in years man! This is my favorite film of the year with Fury Road. Talk about totally different films with totally different vibes yet with characters who you root for and come to respect and love. 10/10

This is 2015s Gravity...and I'm sure it'll get a few well deserved Oscar nominations ....just loved it :)

Good but not great- sorta dragged in parts and the end reminded me tooo much like Mission to Mars and 2010...stuff I've seen before but not done as good as this(sfx).
So I'm not as enthusiastic as before but question seriously Academy Award hype for it...

Saw it last night, and while it's a great movie, I'm a bit baffled by everyone's reaction to it.
It certainly is one of Scott's better movies (especially considering his latter output), but it's really just a crowd pleader of a movie. Maybe that's why everybody is so taken by it.
Damon's very good in it, especially when his humor shines through, and the cinematography is, as it to be expected with Scott, beautiful. The story is pretty well handled, but it's very straightforward. You can see things coming from a light year away, although it must be said that Scott manages to keep things interesting nevertheless.
Some genuinely tense moments, some great comic relief moments, great soundtrack.
But far from best movie of the year for me.

There was not enough depth in that dirt to grow potatoes.

Yeah alot of cardboard characters in my opinion- once again we get NERDish young computer wiz saving the day while hundreds of Nasa engineers do nothing like think outside of the box. I was particularly tired of that scenario done so many times in sci fi films.
I think the story itself was very pedestrian and highly predictable- not that that is always bad but just was flat to me- saved by Ridley's great visuals.

Really enjoyed it, to say he only lived on Potatoes, he sure produced a lot of ****. Two barrels full? Genius

Yes But he only used one handful of **** per Potato plant, as a agricultural expert it would take at least 3 handfuls of **** for successful growth, plus it's not the most viable of composts or soil.
