Also the first Spiderman is better than the first, to be honest the first godfther is still the best aswell ALL IN MY OPINION.

Agreed on all counts ........... although each of the sequels were awesome they weren't better than the originals imo. How about that, we've agreed on something old arguing friend

I'm talking about Predator not other films, there is no way Predators is going to top the original (i've seen the trailer).

Ok, but the point still applies, a lot of folks feel the origina Predator set the bar and every film based on the species since has fallen short of that, but, I'm sure there are some that feel AVP or AVPR are better than P1 or P2.

Just becuase we feel strongly about something doesn't mean our view is the correct one, it's just ours.

That's got nothing to do with a better movie, wich constitutes better filmmaking.

P1 screen time maybe 10mins and you find out very little about him
P2 screen time maybe 20 mins and you find out a crap load of stuff(been coming to earth for 1000's of years,hunt other alien races,has more than just infrared vision and more)
This is my opinion and you don't have to agree but not everyone likes originals.

I have to disagree, the quality of filmmaking goes beyond personal opinion. Mctiernan is a classical director in many ways who studied european cinema, and it shows (inovative camera-work in predator etc.... How can you compare that to the works of turd directors like Anderson and the Strauses?

I'm not comparing it, but again, everything you just said is your opinion, you feel that McTiernan is a better director and has a better background than the AVP filmmakers, but the bottom line is, that's you're feeling, no one can say Predator is by default better because of who made it, it's an opinion and there will be varying opinons.

I'm not challenging your opinion, just that you present it as if your thoughts are cold hard facts, and they're not, it's your feeling but it doesn't make it right and other people's wrong, it just makes it yours.

I guess I just don't get why there ALWAYS has to be a comparison.

Is this movie going to delete PREDATOR?
Is it going to wipe it from your memory?
Will you still be able to go back and watch PREDATOR whenever you like?

I'm going to enjoy it for what it is.

I see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON that it ABSOLUTELY MUST be compared to the original.

But, that's just me.

It will stand fine on it's own and will (hopefully) be a fun movie.

In an absolute sense yes, i agree with you. The problem with this kind of reasoning is though, that you can't set up any standards. Suddenly Bergman is on pair with Brian Levant in the realm of personal preference etc...i refuse to live like that.

That's the great thing though, you don't have to live like that. You have your opinion and get to make anything you like of it, while others can do the same. I find a lot of people on here discredit peoples opinions way to much because its different then someone elses.

For you that's reality, I disagree. Again, I feel a number of sequels are better than the originals.

It's opinion, not fact, the only facts about movie success are measurable things like box office numbers and awards where there is a tangible, yes, this movie is highest grossing or most award winning. The rest is subjective.

But honestly, we all know that's more the exception than the rule. For every sequel that's surpassed the original, there are umpteen that should never have been made.

I will never get over the travesty that was AVPR. Some sequels are just bad unneccesary cashins. But some like AVPR are so inept that they actually tarnish the whole series and mythology. I found it almost unwatchable. I guess Predators is in a better place than that ( judging by the script) but only just. And those Pred variations just look awful. Technically as well. Winstons creatures had a translucent organic believability. Those look like over worked animatronic masks.
Maybe they will look better on screen but so far I haven't seen a single frame or publicity still that makes me go, cool! IMHO.

No he hates it because Predator 2 is a crappy film with horribly directing by hack director Stephen Hopkin (cringeworthy).

There are 3 good things about Predator 2:

1 Stan winston's work
2 Kevin Peter Hall's work
3 Alan Silvestri's work

But it's not enough to save the movie.

what, how was p2 a bad movie. l actually like it more then the first. l also hate the AVP stuff. to me there are only 2 pred movies. 1 and 2. l like the second the best. there was lots of action. the pred had more screen time, a nice chase like in the first. and why do a lot of people not like danny glover. he was perfect for the role. people say he was old and limping from old age in that movie, well l say he was in better shape than most on this board in that movie. he was right there with arnold in my opinion in terms of being a bad asss.

I actually like P2 as well. It has certainly got its problems, and with a good director could have been fantastic. At least it feels like it's own movie. And there is some fun stuff in there. I don't really compare it to the original which is a good thing.

that is right l do not compare it either. there both completely different movie. though l do like they connected both of them when they talked about the first movie,it makes it feel like a real story. but l do hate the AVP stuff. the second was the worst movie l have ever seen. and the first AVP l bought when l came out and after watching it l brought it back and got a different movie in stead. l fear this new movie will be the same. the predators do not look that great. but okay that does not mean it will be bad but what scares me is it also has a bad cast, l mean topher grace and that guy with the big nose. l just see another AVP style movie. l love predator and all l want is another good pred movie to come out. but l dont think this will be it. that is my 2 cents. love me or hate me.
