RobertoBagg10's Display Thread 'COMING SOON' SIDESHOW'S DR DOOM LSF PICS
Well here it is at last guys and a piece which was arguably always going to be one of my most anticipated pre orders of 2015...its the Sideshow Dr Doom 1/2 Scale LSF
So back when I first saw this piece from the Comic Con 2012 pics, I immediately thought to myself that it was one of the most incredible statues that I'd ever seen! Bear in mind that I'd only started collecting in 2012 so my knowledge of cool collectibles wasn't as vast as what it is today lol...but incredibly, now that I have it inhand, I have to say that it's still one of the best statues I've had the priviledge to see inhand...
The sheer size of the piece is incredible, definitely a centre piece without any question of a doubt and the presence factor that this piece gives off is just overwhelming! In my opinion, its up there along with my Iron Man MKIII 1/2 scale as being the best statue in the Sideshow LSF line...it just oozes what Doom is all about for me...the piece does have a sinister look to it which I really like
So the statue comes in 2 huge boxes (as you'd expect from an LSF) but disappointingly, there wasn't any velvet packaging which had become a thing for all LSF's...not a deal breaker as such but nice to know that for the money your spending, you actually get a more improved quality of packaging. It was there for the Wolverine and Iron Man MKVII LSFs, strangely not for Doom
When unpacking the parts of the statue, I noticed that there was a lot of fabric!
and that assembling this guy was going to take a while! Ideally, I'd say you definitely need 2 people to help assemble it, especially when it comes to applying the cape and connecting the 2 golden medallions! Man!
that part took me like 45 mins just by myself...it was one of those frustrating moments where your trying to line up a peg to fit in a tiny hole, only thing is, you cant see the hole cos of the fabric so its all guess work!!!
The two legs come as one piece, then you have the torso, the two arms and finally the head. Magnets in the arms were fairly strong for me but I have heard that others that recieved much weaker magnets causing the arms to feel unstable...
The armour itself is a little on the dark grey side. In an ideal world I would've liked it more metallic looking but I don't think its awful by any means. The are cool detailing in the armour which is a nice touch and gives the suit a kind of medieval look to it. The two faceplates were really well done and gives the collector the opportunity to choose between the modern looking Doom mask or to go with the more classic Doom look and the Comic book style mask.
The base came out really nice! Infact, I was expecting much from the base as all the pics made it come across as being rather plain or dull but it was nothing further from the truth. Surprisingly the base was painted superbly with great weathering effects aswell as lots of intricate detail of stoney texture...certainly not lacklustre at all.
All in all, its so far been my most expensive collectible to date, (soon to be overtaken by the Prime 1 Optimus Prime)
and I never like to ask the question of 'was it worth the money?' because at the end of the day, if you like something enough and you desperately want the piece, then your going to have to pay these prices! Yes of course, the entire LSF line is excessively overpriced in my opinion but other than maybe waiting a few years down the line and maybe picking one up on the secondary market for possibly a lower price, one is just going to have to pay the price
So anyway, at the end of the day I have to ask myself the vital question. Was it worth selling my Doom Premium Format for the LSF version? HELL YES!!! As great as the old grail PF is, the LSF just brings so much more to the table from viewing pleasure to down right overall awesomeness! And what would this piece be without some Andy custom touches!
That's right, I'm getting some very cool custom add ons which will make this piece look even more awesome! What will they be? Well, you'll have to wait for some WIP pics but it really shouldn't take you long to guess what they could be...
Enjoy the pics guys
