But man were those Jedi stoooooooopid!

That end battle goes on for far too long.

Yoda and Emperor battle is really bad, cackling Emperor takes the cake.

General Grievous sucked

Lizard sound annoying as all hell.

Ships being shown landing and taking off over and over.

Opening battle really bad...buzz droids suck.

Died of a broken heart lol

Oooompah.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

First off, let me say thanks for keeping things cool here, DiFabio.

I think Lucas did the same thing with ANH--evoking childhood nostalgia for Flash Gordon and serials. I think people said those very same words with Star Wars back in 1977, "It made me feel like a kid again." Nothing new there either.

I don't want to come off as combative, especially since we've managed to keep this debate fairly civil! I just think people are placing too much value on Lucas's supposed originality and TFA and Rogue One's lack of it. I don't see them all that different in terms of originality. It just so happens that the new SW stuff is borrowing from itself instead of other properties. Okay, I can concede that maybe that makes Lucas's stuff a teeny tiny bit more original, but I'm thinking it's like 0.001% more. And as I said before, at least TFA showed competency behind the camera, and I'll take that over the tiny bit of originality the Prequels showed. I think the best thing TFA did was have so much heart. That's what keeps me engaged every time I watch it.

But thanks again for keeping it cool, DiFabio! I could have seen this whole thing devolving into an unnecessary flame war. :duff

My flamethrower tank is low on fuel, maybe next week i'll get ya . . .

You're right about Flash Gordon, but I don't think people give Lucas enough credit. There is a unique fairy tale simplicity there with Luke, Vader, Old Ben, Han, the Princess, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2, Jawas, Stormtroopers, Yoda, etc. that is based on tropes while still being wholly original. I just don't see or feel with the likes of "Qui-Gon Jinn", "Jar Jar Binks", "Dexter Jetster", "Mace Windu", "Rey", "Finn", "Poe", "Maz Kanata", "Snoke", "Jyn Erso", "Chirrut Imwe", "Saw Gerrea", "Captain Andor", etc. The latter feels forced. As for it having heart, I think only the originals have that. I don't see a heart when I view these recent Star Wars movies, I see a cold, familiar silhouette of a certain, money grubbing, agenda pushing mouse. Maybe I'm cynical, but I can't be as bad as this stranglehold monopoly they have on everything. Hell, they're so desperate and deprived of any new ideas that they've resorted to redoing their own classics. :lol

I could do what you did there and deconstruct ANH into a cheesy amateur hour mess, but I won't. I love that movie. I love Star Wars as a whole.

You forgot crappy video game graphics. Oh, and Mannequin Skywalker's performance.

I never thought they were stupid. Wooden. Antiquated. arrogant maybe.

Boydee boy I agree with you there. It just goes on and on. About 10 minutes too long. I understand Lucas was going for a victory lap, but sheesh.

Yoda and Emperor battle is really bad, cackling Emperor takes the cake.

I actually like the Yoda/Palpatine duel. I love how drunk with power the Emperor is in this scene.

General Grievous sucked

Lizard sound annoying as all hell.

Yes. The dumbest thing Lucas did was killing Maul off. Maul should have been in all three movies. Grievous never seemed dangerous in the RotS. He was about as menacing as a battle droid (Read: not menacing at all)

Ships being shown landing and taking off over and over.

The green screen wonderland... yeah I agree.

Opening battle really bad...buzz droids suck.

I like the opening scene's pacing. But some of the banter between Obi and Ani is cringe inducing. I wish the CW team would just remake the entire Episode 3.

Died of a broken heart lol

Yeah. I really liked the explanation that Sidious was using the Dark Side to drain her life in order to prolong Vader's life... but how do you depict that on screen? It would have been best to just make it clear that Vader killed her. He already killed a bunch of toddlers. How much worse can we have thought of him at that point anyway? :dunno

Easy fix, you show her giving birth to the kids, then cut to Anakin getting fix, then cut to the Sidious meditating, then cut to her dying while Amakin is getting stronger, and repeat the pattern a few times. Basically you insert Sidious a few times meditating and "seeing" them both.

I still feel like that is clumsy story telling.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Then cut to Yoda with an evil grin as he is revealed to be the real dark lord of the sith with palpatine being his *****.
