Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

The best reveal in cinematic history is in Basic Instinct.

I know Vader is a puss too by ROTJ, so he gets a technicality there, but come on.

I can see dead people, look below:

I don't know, The Crying Game had a shocking reveal :horror

"Sleepaway Camp" finale.

Not bad Riddick, not bad.

And actually, when I think about it, Robocop's reveal is better and more poignant than Vader's.

As a kid, I didn't need Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen or the prequels to show me how much Vader actually sucked. ROTJ did that with Anakin "I must obey my master" Skywalker.

Good stuff from Difabio. :lol

Man isn't wrong....As a kid I recall thinking Vader was da bomb after the first two films. When the helmet came off and it was a crusty white old dude.....wtf

Maybe it was the greatest reveal just not in a good sense.

Yeah, I expected him to look more ****ed up. The infected head you see in Empire with the discolorations (yellow, pink and red) puss, blood and skin graphs forced you to think of something horrendous for the front of the face. Then you see this lame old guy that's just pale with some lame prosthetic scars and it's like "oh".

I just watched trailers for Force Awakens and Rogue One, and I just thought of something with all this classic Vader talk,

Original Trilogy = for boys

Prequel Trilogy = for nerds (scientific crap like midchlorians, political crap like trade disputes and mythology with secret prophecies straight out of your role playing Dungeons and Dragons games)

Disney Star Wars = for little girls that surround themselves with token minorities so she isn't deemed a racist as they fight against the evil, emo, conflicted, but kinda cute :), CIS white male

No silly the "I am your father" reveal from ESB not ROTJ unmasking. :thwak

Nothing will ever top that.

Only if Lucas could've redone it

Oh snap, I thought you meant ROTJ too.

I liked Vader in Empire. He still retained some mystery and badassery. His entrance in the Hoth Rebel base with the flanking Snowtroopers is awesome. You can also pretend that he was either just ****ing with Luke and really wasn't his dad OR he was his dad, was really messed up under that mask and wanted to dethrone the Emperor instead of being his ***** boy.

Don't forget to shave before your battle with oppression.

Is it me or did they just show the black guy facing off against a whole bunch of white troopers lol

Thank you dear Lord and baby Jesus for hearing my prayer.

Vader's helmet looked very flimsy in the, "I'm your father scene" scene. It was very distracting, and probably why Luke lost his hand.

It isn't just you. The RO writers even admitted that was the agenda behind the movie.

What happened to Rebel soldiers like these?

Look at them beards and Vietnam era looking fighters.

EDIT:

That looks like Aaron Eckhart with a beard.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

That's fine.. I wasn't directing that towards you, I only quoted you so any one reading knew why I posted it. Vader only answering to the Emperor. But also you can't say the Clone Wars cartoon is EU. Everything was partly written and approved by Lucas before Disney stepped in. So true "Lucas" cannon is the original 6 (Ep I-VI) movies & the Clone Wars cartoon as everything was overseen by Lucas to be an official part of the universe, whether you liked it or not. I do agree it seems like he's under Tarkin's control, but you don't know it's not the Emperor telling him to follow Tarkin, not him following Tarkin because he has to. He may have changed things that don't make sense, but unfortunately that's the way it is...Many people obviously don't like the prequels, but by your statement then everything is EU except for the original trilogy (EpIV-VI)? If only...

Again, I agree a lot with what you say. But Lucas changed it into what it is today, so no point in sticking to ideas that are no longer true. Also keep in mind NO one know's the Emperor was a Sith Master who completely controlled the Clone Wars other than Vader, and that Vader was a former Jedi... The Rogue One Catalyst novel is really good in understanding the beginnings of the the Empire and it's hierarchy. It's a great read not just for the Rogue One movie. The only other people who knew about Palpatine were Maul and Dooku. And the whole point of everything is for the Sith to destroy the Jedi and rule the galaxy, not the Empire. As by the rule of 2, Vader will have to eventually take the Emperors place, and the Emperor certainly isn't gonna undermine everything he's done by making Vader everyone's lacky.. Vader is a guard dog, but he's on the Emperor's leash, no one else's... If Vader disobeys him, he'll answer to Palpatine, no one else. It's just like in TFA with Kylo Ren & General Hux. Both only followed Snoke's orders, and you can clearly see Hux was just as afraid of Kylo as everyone else. But he was put in charge by Snoke so as long as he's successful in Snoke's mind, Kylo would have to obey Hux's orders, but by Snoke's command not because Hux was in charge..

But if you listen to the audio commentary on ANH, Lucas points out how "pathetic " Vader has become and has to take orders from Tarkin. So I think Vader is somewhat controlled by Tarkin until he realizes his son is alive and finds a way out of his dilemma. Again, this is according to Lucas after his reinvision for Vader after the prequels.

I've never listened to any of the commentaries. Thanks for pointing that out..

But again, just a thought, he could be pathetic cause the Emperor makes him so. Remember from the words of Vader himself "I must obey my master". Palpatine wasn't happy with Vader after he lost his limbs to Ob-Wan, as he'd never be able to reach his full potential (why he never used/learned the sith lightning ability since he's part mechanical). Plus he could still be really mad about The Death Star Plans and taking it out on Vader, and who knows what else had happened in the 19 years between EPIII & EPIV.
