Widescreen 70mm for a movie in a cabin.
I think if the movie is made well then yes we can connect with Jyn and the other characters. Family Guy made a really funny joke in their ANH parody about believing in the Force after meeting someone just a few hours before and then criticizing Han for not being a believer.
The point is that if ANH is the base film that all others are judged from, then yes we can fall in love with characters after only a few scenes if the story overall is great and the movie is well made. A great comparison is the difference between the deaths of the Rebel pilots attacking the Death Star and the Naboo fighters in TPM. Even though Perkins only had less then two minutes of screen time, we still felt the pain of his death because the way the movie and script brought everything together to that emotional moment. TMP was just a mess. Bad script. Bad characters. And just plain boring. So no we did not feel or care when those secondary characters died.
So now we have Rogue One. Again if the script is good and the movie is well made, then yes we should end up caring for all the Rebels and actually feel something when and if they die. The same for Jyn. It all depends on the story and the characters coming to life in a great movie.
Just 12 more days and we will know if its great or not, but it's definitely worth the price of admission to find out.
Just my two cents.

Fair. Although "a lot of us" is maybe debatable]
Sucide Squad / BvS are masterpieces.
Fixed for ya......Rushmore will appreciate....
SW/ESB are masterpieces.
found this pretty entertaining
Can I agree with you more than 100%?
Going to make it full blown Star Wars on inside as well?
So, in other news, I read that Disney is transforming Spaceship Earth, the giant ball at Epcot Center, into the Death Star.
While it will look cool, I'm not sure it's a good thing.
