Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

I suppose you could argue that Vader was, if you define him by previous experiences, but I tend to subscribe to the school of "cognitive dissonance" when it comes to that one.:lol

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Black don't crack, beige don't age.
Alec Guinness was a white old **** living in the desert.
:lol

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Just returned form another viewing.

I like how Saw's breathung mask reminded Bodhi of Vader.

Saw's scene not as slow going this time around.

Music not as bad this time but still the weakest element of the movie.

Alien designs are 100% OT like, puts TFA to shame.

Princess Leia actually looked fine to me this time.

Vader didn't seem that wonky this time out during his Krennic scene.

1st hour was improvement.

Jyn/Cassian death this time was even more sad.

K2SO is a great addition to the series.

My one new gripe, Jyn's father arc seems to be the weakest character arc of the movie.

Overall a really good movie.

How old is Jyn supposed to be in RO?
They were already building the thing when she was a small child.
So that means they were building it before ROTS?

Amazing how a 155 opening weekend can be viewed as a failure lol.

A weekend!

BvS made 10 million more opening weekend but it was the first time we saw WW and Batman with Superman and the trinity together, that's 3 firsts!

This is SW movie # 8!

BvS did not break 1B.

RO will.

Nuff said lol.

Yeah, I thought pretty much the same second time.
I think Leia would have been ok if they just shortened the CGI shot a little, the very end/smile was off. The profile was great before she turned fully.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

I think the main question is ... how should we call the Vader's butler?

I'm happy they're pusshing the envelope though, I want moar!

I was really sad this time with their deaths.

Seeing Leia gave me the same happy tears I had when I saw my boi Luke again in TFA.

How? And why? He was giving Luke to the Emperor :lol

as i said, he saw the Emperor about to kill his son, he got the Light Side back and killed the Emperor.

After he gave Luke to the Emperor and suggested going after Leia?
Seems like there was no gradual change....or reason for him to do the right thing. It wasn't earned, imo.

Then again, this is the same film franchise that ignores Leia's psychological effects of losing her home planet or being a sex slave to a giant slug monster. :lol

huh?

he's corrupted by the Emperor. thats all you need to understand. If Luke didn't want to join him, they would kill him then go after Leia to make her join them. I kind of thought everyone got this way back in the 80s. its all about the Dark Side corrupting their minds and the Emperor being a Dictator ruling the Galaxy. Vader is the Emperors apprentice.

Plus you have to remember the Emperor lied to Vader. He told Vader that Luke's destiny is to kill the Emperor, and then join Vader to rule the Galaxy as Father and Son and it will end the conflicts in the galaxy. But in ROTJ, Vader realized it was a lie too, because the Emperor wanted Luke to kill Vader instead and then Luke and the Emperor will rule. This also woke Vader up. The Emperor lied too, manipulated, and brain washed Anakin/Vader since the Prequels. he finally realized it when Luke was almost killed by the Emperor.

Psychological effects? Sex Slave? I think she's pretty pissed off through the series of losing her home planet. And there is no indication she was a sex slave. She was a slave dancer. For not very long. maybe less than 24 hrs.

i think your looking way too into it. If they had Netflix back then to make a series, you would of course see more detail that was off screen in the story. But it all adds up just fine. Just listen to the dialogue with Luke, Vader, and the Emperor. Corruption, brainwashing, and lies by the Emperor. it even goes back to the Prequels with Papaltine and Anakin. Sure there are a few things they messed up in the story of the Prequels, but the Emperor's plans are pretty much there through the 6 movies.

RO opens with planet rings over Erso's planet.

They made those rings look very 70ish, I liked that.

Everyone gets that. It's the turning good part that isn't earned. He just does because...no real reason :lol His son was getting hurt? He was just trying to kill the little brat a minute ago, but now he feels bad that the Emperor is going to get the job done? Wut?

The Emperor told Vader that Luke was going to kill him (emperor)? When did that happen? And why would Vader believe for a second that the Emperor is ok with Luke killing him? That doesn't even make sense. Why didn't Vader let Luke kill the Emperor then? :lol

Pissed off isn't exactly a reaction scene and she's given no developed character trauma of any kind.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Saw the movie this morning. Absolutely loved it. Will only chime in on one or two points, to maybe help clarify some stuff.

For those discussing the plot point of Galen not telling them where the exhaust port leading to the generator was, is probably because he did not know. He built the weakness in the power generator itself, not in the Death Star's construction. You need to read the novel Rogue One : Catalyst to understand. Galen did not build the Death Star or any of it's other operations. There were many scientists divided into "teams" all working on different aspects, most importantly the shielding, and the weapons system. The Death Star itself was created by the Genosians, just as seen in EPII when they are handing the plans over to Dooku. Galen was only in charge of figuring out how to harness the power of the Kyber Crystals, as that was his area of expertise. He was led to believe he was developing a form of unlimited power for planets, not building a weapon. Krennic would take his data and send it to the team working on the actual weapons system, unbeknownst to Galen. He and most scientists were lied to. Also the teams that were working on the other portions of the Death Star were all killed in "accidents" upon completion of their part of the project. Krennic was behind everything, so he would've murdered Galen and his crew at some point once they were no longer needed, just as we saw in the movie.

So, therefore, the Rebels only knew about the weakness for potential destruction. They needed the plans to figure out how to take advantage of the weakness he created. Therefore they did find the exhaust port that led into the power chamber, which Galen most likely knew nothing about. Based on the novel, I'm sure even he never had access to the complete plans even after rejoining Krennic as seen in the movie, but he just knew where the Empire kept all it’s data. He and Krennic were friends, but he started to become suspicious. When he found out the truth, he fled with his wife and Jyn with the help of Saw Guerrera before his work was completed. Krennic eventually tracked him down as we see in the movie and forced him into finishing his work. So he too feels betrayed by his friend after seeing his wife murdered, so he fought back the only way he could, by building in a flaw small enough that no one else without the knowledge would find without looking for it specifically.

Jyn was born in the book which takes place shortly after ROTS, so she should be somewhere between 18 and 19 in Rogue One, as 19 years pass between EPIII & EPIV.
