Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

How is Luke 9 years old?

It was a joke. :lol

You know saying he's really a kid, but looks like he's in his 20s/30s because he lived on Tatoonie.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

One of my key issues with the PT is that Lucas started the whole thing off way too young to begin with. Vader should have been about 31 when Luke was born and he 'earned' his suit. He should have been a man, not a 23 year old whiner.

He was in his early 30's in ROTS.

He just happened to be a 30 year old whiner...

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Where'd you get that math?

TPM = 9 years old
AOC = 19 years old - was 10 years later
ROS = 22 years old - wasn't it 3 years later? It certainly wasn't 12-14 years later.
this is correct

I'm going by Obi Wan's age.

He was around 20 years old in TPM, hence the short hair with the little braid thing, which makes him at least 10 years older than Anakin, hence the "you were my brother, Anakin" line not "you were my son" in ROTS.

So if Anakin is 23 in ROTS, there is no way Obi can be in his 30's. Obi was at least in his early 40's, hence the grey hair and him being in his 60's 20 years later in ANH.

There had to be at least a 10 year gap between AOTC and ROTS.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

I like Luke and the Emperor, I think the Throne Room is one of the best scenes in the movie!

But Vader (along with Harrison Ford, the ewoks, the Leia is my sister revelation, the lighting and shot composition), sucks. A-dev, I know you've mentioned problems with his redemption and how he's pretty unredeemable and I agree. It's not because of his actions in the prequels though. Just disregarding them, Vader is a piece of crap. No, not because of ANH or Empire, but because of Jedi. He could have defected on Endor if his son, his blood, meant that much to him. But he doesn't. He brings Luke up to the Emperor and is completely fine with his son killing him and taking his place as the Emperor's **** boy. Even goads Luke by suggesting his sister take his place if he doesn't turn.

The whole "I sense good in you" thing is lame. What "good" is there in him? Vader clearly believes in the Force, the Dark Side and the Empire and is convinced that is the right path. Vader doesn't consider himself a bad guy, it's clear in ANH and even Rogue One. He's not enthusiastic about the Death Star, he's not about destroying millions of lives and respects the Force just as much as Yoda or the blind dude in Rogue One. He even considers overthrowing the Emperor. Then by Jedi, all of the that is thrown out of the window and suddenly he's just a slave. "There's no hope for me Luke", "Obi-Wan once thought as you do Luke", "you don't know the power of the dark side Luke, I have to obey my master". He never makes a compelling argument why Luke should turn, he just acts like a victim who has no choice. It's pretty bad. He's "redeemed" because suddenly he decides to make the most obvious choice he should have done earlier? I don't think so. Once you take into account betraying his friends, killing all the Jedi, children, torturing Leia, torturing Han, beating his son to a pulp and lobbing off his hand, etc. he shouldn't get to become a cheesy, grinning Force ghost.

Even in Episode III he isn't that pathetic. Palpatine is a means to an end and he even considers overthrowing him before he fights Obi-Wan.

I haven't in all these years seen a movie that you actually "did" like :lol

Thats said, no i think your way off about Anakin/Vader. The Emperor corrupted and manipulated his mind the entire time. The Jedi warned Anakin of anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. So they knew because of what happened to him and his mother, he could become dangerous if he falls to the dark side and be corrupted by it. they saw the anger in him and they didn't want him to become a Jedi because they were afraid of him since he was so powerful.

Once Palpatine got hold of him he slowly brainwashed Anakin. A lot of Vader is just the Emperor corrupting his mind. He had no choice because his mind was brainwashed by the Emperor.

Same thing is happening to Kylo in TFA with Snoke corrupting Kylo's mind.

Eventually when we get to ROTJ, he finally was able to fight off the brainwashing. The final straw was seeing the Emperor almost kill his son.

Vader/Anakin was not free, he was a slave to the Emperor. Always was since they day he met Palpatine.

The argument Vader gave to Luke was join me, your father, and we can rule the galaxy. He was trying to corrupt Luke's mind. The more angry Luke became, the easier it would be to corrupt him mind. But Luke was able to hold him off.

thats one of the most powerful things of the Jedi and Sith, you can control peoples minds. The more powerful you are, the more control you have over people's minds. Palpatine was pretty much at the highest possible level, he was stronger than all of them, except for Luke by the end. And remember Luke asked Yoda is the dark side stronger. Yoda said" No, its quicker, easier, and more seductive". And that turned out to be true by the end of ROTJ. The Light Side won in the end.

clone wars started in 22BBY order 66 was given out in 19BBY. 3 years m8.

Then Lucas ***** up :lol

If Obi Wan was around 20 in TPM then 30 in AOTC and then around 33 with grey hair in ROTS, then that means he's in his early 50's in ANH :lol The oldest looking 53 year old ever.

hes 59 in ANH. (Luke 21, Vader around 43) harsh conditions from tatooine adds 10 years to ones appearance. :lol

Episode 8 will make a lot of money obviously. Probably around 1.5 billion at best, but it won't go near 2 billion again. And the more movies they make, the less of an event they become and less people will go see them.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

oh, and alec guinness was 63 when ANH released. so he's just really old looking. :lol

Is there actual proof that Luke is 21 and Obi 59 or is that you opinion? Because that would make Obi 38 in ROTS and 25 in TPM, and he was still an apprentice who had not taken the trails or whatever they call it?

Obi has to be younger than 59 in ANH

Is that a real shocker?

Many sources of the day and Lucas himself said Luke was 19. Carrie Fisher was in fact 19. They're twins. And I distinctly remember it being said that Vader was in his 50's in ANH -- at my very young age I found that shocking, that Vader was what I thought was a pretty old man back in 1977.

Even if Luke WAS 21, that doesn't do much for your math.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

. Dude even has a weird old hooded butler. We've never seen this side of Vader before.
Yes lets talk about that guy....and the royal guards?

Also, forget about the Troopers. Where are all the K2 units in the OT?

And the brightness/contrast was ****ed up in a lot of the shots. Like that rain planet you couldn't really make out the character's faces. I thought it was just my theater until my friend said he experienced the same thing in LA at the IMAX and regular theater. Makes me wonder how dim the 3D version would look, maybe I'll try that out (I saw Doctor Strange in it recently).

AMEN! holy cow was this distracting...I thought it was my theater...I was gonna tell the manager how screwed up it was!

Some of the scenes were nearly unwatchable....total grey blowout.

My guess is Edwards likes those barely lit scenes....and somewhere down the line a blind executive said...."its too dark, turn up the contrast" and there we are.

I kept thinking.....man these shots would be great if the grays were black...One shot of Jyn in front of the lamp would have looked great.....all you would have seen in that shot would have been Jyn's face on a field of black.

Yup, spot on...not sure why people keep missing this....

I always saw Vader as an older man...maybe because of his breathing issue and his slow movements :lol I just can't see him as a 40 year old.

How? And why? He was giving Luke to the Emperor :lol

The final straw was seeing the Emperor almost kill his son.

After he gave Luke to the Emperor and suggested going after Leia?

Seems like there was no gradual change....or reason for him to do the right thing. It wasn't earned, imo.

Then again, this is the same film franchise that ignores Leia's psychological effects of losing her home PLANET or being a sex slave to a giant slug monster and finding out that the man who tortured her and destroyed her planet was her father :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16) *NO SPOILERS ALLOWED*

I saw this today and loved it. Speaking purely to my own experience, I not only enjoyed it more, but found it to be a far better movie than TFA. The cast was solid, the story was engaging and compelling, and all of the characters were interesting and not emo bitchbois.
