What happened to Rogue One in here?
What happened to Rogue One in here?
Man i'll take Donnie Yen Force babbling over all those arena Jedi in AOTC.
Holy crap that arena scene is even worse than I remember.
Anakin climbing the steps of the Jedi temple was scrumptious, even if their march didn't really match up with the width of the steps lol.
On even years my ex gets the kids overnight for Christmas Eve so after she picked them up this evening I thought I'd take the opportunity to catch RO in IMAX 3D this time. Really enjoyed the 3D presentation.
And I just loved the movie from beginning to end. Knowing what to expect didn't relieve the tension at all, if anything it made many scenes more poignant much earlier on. There's not a single moment that I become bored, lose interest, or just want it to hurry and "get to the next part." Even TFA has those 30 uninteresting seconds of Finn walking across the desert.
I thought it was interesting once the Death Star took out Jedha that the Alliance was basically ready to scatter and call it a day. And that some of them thought the notion of raiding Scarif might be an elaborate Imperial ruse that would trick them into exposing themselves and getting annihilated. Which, of course, is exactly what the Emperor does do in ROTJ. As if he recalled Scarif and decided that the easiest way to provoke a Rebel attack is to let on that the DS is vulnerable, but this time on his terms. Very cool.
On my first viewing I missed the fact that when Vader walked under the Rebel Trooper pinned to the ceiling with the Force that he sliced him in half with his saber!
It also occurred to me that the Rogue One shuttle (and others like it) looked very much like the Mosasaurus from Jurassic World.
The acting in this movie is really impressive, especially Mad Mikkelsen. "We call it the Death Star, and there's no better name for it" could have been such a cheesy line but he absolutely nails it.
And I really think that TFA should have introduced some new Rebel and Imperial Fighters. I get the whole "going backward" thing but so did Rogue One (literally) but they still introduced those new atmospheric TIE's zipping over the beaches of Scarif. Starkiller Base could have had some new designs like that mixed in with the regular TIE's.
Anyway, I *really* like how RO and ANH really can play as a self-contained two-parter with it's own satisfying resolution. So you can watch ANH as a standalone, the OT trilogy as a standalone, or RO to Jedi as a quadrilogy. We'll see how the sequel trilogy factors in when all is said and done.
Well it was better than the Battle Droids marching toward the Gungan Shield Generators in soft grass even though the audio suggested they were stomping on concrete.
Bad humor. Don't forget C3PO getting a new body sequence and being "funny" while the Jedi are fighting. Also, poor editing and transitions from scene to scene.
Wut...
The PT never sold their friendship for even one second.
After 3 viewings I am also glad to say that not only did it hold up the 1st act actually improved.
Going to my 4th tomorrow because that's what Jesus would've wanted.
The problem with PT hate is that 90% of it is bandwagoning.
I didn't know quite what to make of Cassian Andor for a good part of my first viewing but ended up liking him at the end. On my second viewing I *really* liked him as a character. Very compelling. And I liked that the black ops Rebels who got their hands the dirtiest were too far in to walk away from the fight. A really organic way for Jyn to get more ground troops for her raid, in fact just a tight narrative from beginning to end.
I really liked that both Jyn's parents' last words to Krennic were "You won't win" but she got to close with "You lost." You know those words were ringing in his ears as the Death Star lit up the sky.
Preach it!
But I think I'm going to be good at two theatrical viewings. I'll be there day one like always for the blu-ray. Now I think it's time for my annual blockbuster purge with some sound dramas. La La Land and Fences are up next.
5th-6h will be my last, it's really out of my control, first family twice then brothers and sisters then nephews...yikes.
So General Grievous wouldn't have worked on Scarif lol.
For whatever reason during the scene where Mon Mothma asked Bail Organa if he might be able to recruit his Jedi friend to their cause I briefly entertained the idea of Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan being the one they were talking about. And you know what, I didn't hate the idea. Obviously it would have been Alec Guinness in that period of time (duh) but I realized that my aversion to the prequels doesn't extend to McGregor as an actor or even him as Obi-Wan Kenobi. It'd be very interesting to see him in a "Rogue One" quality SW film.
It'd have to be set farther back to accommodate his age of course but I could see myself enjoying a stand alone film with him as the main character. Chiang, Knoll, and Smits have been redeemed so why not give McGregor another shot.
Oh absolutely about Ewan.
But you have to watch the ROTS Kashyyyk battle after having watched the Scarif battle.
Oh man what a huge difference in tone.
Kashyyyk one is actually even more lolz now.
Have you seriously been binging the prequels for lolz after RO? I don't know if I can. I tried watching ROTS after TFA last year and it was just excruciating.
Hah, so did I. The casting was generally great with the prequels....just the damn writing and the emphasis on nonsense CGI crap in every frame instead of the acting.
Anyway, McGregor has said he would do an Obi-wan film so I hope they are working on that. Surely he didn't just stay on Tatooine all that time. Also, potentially they could do what Lucas should have done and elaborated on the whole Owen Lars situation.
