Bro ROTJ started that, not TPM. All they did was shoot a couple of lasers at the Death Star's huge ass main reactor and it blew.

Because the DS II was constructed with the same flawed design as the first. The Empire never learned that it had been sabotaged. They assumed that the designs were sound and that it just needed better protection (deflector shield.)

What long term sense does the deflector shield really make, I wonder. The shield generator is on a stationary object. It's not like the Death Star could take a moon with it whenever it moved. I guess the Death Star II would have been the best protected ultimate weapon, as long as you happened to be on a ship flying close to Endor.

I guess the deflector shield was only there to protect it while being made?

BS

They had to have known. Darth Vader didn't see Rebels trying to shoot an exhaust port and failing as he shot them down? Vader didn't report what he saw? Of course they knew. Vader was the sole survivor of that battle, unless we assume he was an idiot and had no clue why they were in the trench shooting aimlessly at exhaust ports. Not hard to put two and two together.

But NO, let's make another Death Star and give it more weak spots with more open spaces to boot!

None. It was just to keep it protected while it was being built.

Nope.

Of course he assumedly reported it. And all the Empire would have ascertained from such a report was to make sure any future DS's didn't have exhaust ports that connected to the reactor in a straight line. Add a couple zig zags to the ports on DS II, problem solved as far as they knew. :)

DS II didn't have a completed superstructure protecting its main reactor, so needed a deflector shield.

The main reactor is susceptible if fired on directly. If direct access isn't available you need an exhaust port (sabotaged or otherwise).

:lol

I hate these movies, ****ing Death Stars. Thank the maker for Empire Strikes Back.

Because of RO, I understand the destruction of DS I differently. The way it was illustrated in that ATARI demonstration in the war room on Yavin was for simplicity's sake.

Luke's shot didn't enter the port and lead strait down to the reactor, as I used to understand it.

Now it seems the shot in exhaust port blew something up which in turn blew something else up which in turn blew something else up etc... etc... until it reached the main reactor. More like a dominoes.

Did anyone else get that view as a result of RO?

Nah I'm pretty sure that Luke's shot still hit the reactor directly. It never made any sense why they'd shoot at the port from a 90 degree angle though. Good thing for the Force. :lol

For me, the domino effect explains that discrepancy. I will sleep better now at night.

They do say in ANH that a direct shot will start a chain reaction, but don't remember if the chain reaction is supposed to start after the torpedo hits the reactor or not though. I always took it as the trench provided some protection from getting picked off out in space, though it obviously had defenses too.

Well, the one explosion from the torpedo wouldn't be large enough to destroy the entire station in and of itself... so it cascades into many -- even millions -- of explosions throughout that eventually overwhelm the space base.

And Imperials other than Vader do figure out what's going on with the attack -- the guy who steps over to Tarkin and says "we've analyzed their attack and there is a danger". Sabotage or not, there must be reason for Tarkin to be offered an escape plan off the Death Star.

That's a slip RO only complicates.

I suppose that explanation is as good as any but both the schematic and Luke's torpedoes are shown flying parallel to the surface before inexplicably making a 90 degree turn to enter the port.

In your list of best villains, where does Dooku rank?

I'd actually probably put the xmas special SLIGHTLY higher than AOTC....I just cannot stand that one......but both are on the bottom.....That ewok movie was pretty cringe worthy too, I forgot about that one.

1. Vader
2. Sidious
3. Maul
4. Dooku
5. Grievous
