Immediately after the first film, in the new Marvel Star Wars comics. Kinda reminiscent of the Holiday Special! 
The comics also have a "Vader entering Jabba's Palace" scene that mirrors Luke's entrance in ROTJ.

Like everything else in life too much of anything, even good things, is never good.
That's my biggest problem with superheroes the more they create the more it destroys what made the core heroes so very special and unique to begin with.

True. I guess having the extra stuff in different media - books, comics, animated series etc. - makes it easier to ignore if you want. Those who want to seek it out, can.
What would you do if Disney decided to announce that the prequels were no longer canon? Wash your hands of them?

I haven't washed my hands of the EU, so no. But I'd recognise them as non-canon.

I wasn't completely sold on the music when RO first came out but now the more I watch, it seems to work (if that makes sense). It helps that it's a kick @ss flick too I suppose.
