I just finished listening to the audiobook again. There is a small part that narrates some documents showing a back and forth between Galen, Krennic and a third imperial regarding the management of waste radiaton, and after some discussion they go with the thermal exhaust port used to destroy the DS. Is this supposed to imply Galen designed the exhaust port to be a way to get to the main reactor or just be a coincidence?

Ah, like clockwork. Always so quick to undermine and disregard other people's valid criticisms with name calling or a troll card just because you don't share the same opinion. You're delusional.

Honestly though when I watched RO last night I was kind of keeping an eye out for that really bad "before" picture that you posted next to the 1977 screenshot of Fisher herself. She didn't look as bad as that. Now I suppose it could have just been a single frame that my eye wasn't able recognize while she was in motion but I couldn't help but think that the pic you posted wasn't from the actual movie.

Maybe someone *did* adjust it to make it look worse and then passed it around the net...? :dunno

Disney may have touched it up for the home video release, that's possible. I wouldn't know, I don't own it. Lucas did that with some of the wonky things in the prequels for the DVD releases.

But Snoopy included theater view in there along with his flatscreen. I saw it twice in theaters and it looked awful. I may not have a screencap of my memory, but I remember what I saw. If me or the countless of other people that have a problem with it were trolling, then why stop at Leia? I personally thought Tarkin was better and looked more convincing, how come people don't attack that as much? He's more prominently featured. To simply dismiss other people's criticisms as trolling just because you don't agree with it just isn't right. You never do that Khev and you're always respectful of varying view points. Same thing happens in other threads, whether it's movies or dolls (used to happen all the time in the Walking Dead thread). People criticize what they think are crappy episodes, scenes, toys with thoughtful posts, and people come in and write off those criticisms as "trolling" or "they just haters".

I don't think they did but I do tend to find myself remembering Leia looking worse than she actually did, probably in part because of those "so-called" screenshots floating around the web and tainting people's memories. Sad!

In all seriousness though I watched it 7 times on the big screen (and three of those times on the REALLY big 7 story IMAX screen) and then an additional three times at home now. So until someone says otherwise I've probably seen it the most out of everyone here. And I'm not saying that I ever thought that Leia was rendered as well as young RDJ (no way) or that she was even as good as Tarkin. If you thought she flat out sucked or whatever obviously I can't prove otherwise. And when I asked my ex-wife what she thought of the movie months back she did mention that "the CG characters reminded me of Polar Express." Ouch. A pretty scathing criticism there and she never posts on forums so obviously she had no motivation to "troll" in any way shape or form. She was just being honest.

I won't go all Sean Spicer on behalf of Darth Snoopy but maybe he was referencing the trolls who tweaked Leia's image to look even crappier. Or maybe I'm just blind or refusing to acknowledge the bad of what is fast becoming a Top 3 movie of all time for me. Who knows. I don't want to belabor the topic because it does invite more criticism and then I have to keep grabbing people by their collar, saying I'm going to kill them, and eventually there will be no one left. :lol

So I'll just end with this; they definitely didn't hit a homerun with Leia (except for that first profile angle when she takes the plans) like they did with RDJ. And that's a bit of a bummer. I just really think that some of the pics on the net aren't really accurate as to what was on (both the big and small) screen. They did say that they had a facial mold of Peter Cushing that was made when he appeared in 1984's Top Secret and that that helped them immeasurably. I assume no such 3D reference was available for Carrie Fisher which forced them to go off of 2D archival photos. For young RDJ they probably just filmed current RDJ himself and then tweaked his actual face to make him look younger. They couldn't do that with old Carrie Fisher because her face had changed so much. Anyway, that's my guess as to why she didn't look quite as good as Tarkin or Stark.

It wasn't perfect but her look never takes me out of the movie or that final moment before the credits roll.

Very well said, Khev. Honestly I don’t remember exactly what Leia looked like in the movie, if that screenshot is accurate or not. But I do remember at the time thinking the CGI for her looked noticeably worse than Tarkin.

Khev, I love RO but top 3!

Hellllll Noooo!

Had the entire movie been of the same quality of the 3rd act then yeah I could see it being in my top 25.....50 maybe lol

The whole Leia thing is silly we all know who it was and she was 85% accurate which was good enough to sell the drama they were going for.

Yeah I'm thinking FOTR will be falling to #4 soon. Top 50? You're just mad that I blacklisted cbm's from my most recent favorite films list. ;)

(In retrospect the Cap movies are probably somewhere in my Top 20 but man, I'm just so put off by how long they've strung everything out.)

I told your ex-wife to say this to troll you. Originally it was "just tell Khev you think it looks like a video game character model, that'll get him", but then I knew you'd figure it was me. Polar Express was less obvious. Jokes on you!

It figures. You probably also told ILM to ignore real vintage footage of Fisher in costume in favor of drawing her face from memory. Bastard!

Same for LOTR :lol

But right now i'm dying to watch RO!

Leia could've looked like this and it wouldn't have mattered, the emotional impact was felt and it was a great gift for the fans.

Great now people are going to use that image to show how bad it was going forward. :lol

Do you think the better solution would've been not to show her face, only from behind.

I definitely would have kept this shot:

Then maybe cut to the back of her head as she looks up only revealing her distorted face in the reflection of the glass like when Tarkin was looking out at the Death Star? Then they would have had a good excuse as to why she wasn't being seen clearly. I don't know, I wish it was better but I'm also fine with it as is.

From what I remember, you can actually see the reflection of her face in the Tantive IV windshield before they boost off into hyperspace. I might just be thinking of Tarkin's though.
