Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Still looking good to me, but overall what we have here is the first Star Wars action "only" flick. The fact that all these characters are disposable, and we know the end of the story, really limits the possible outcomes.

I am interested in seeing (since Jimmy Smitts is confirmed) if we will see the transfer of the plans to him, and how they ended up with Leia....now that would be a cool ending....
End the movie with the opening of ANH....

Just watched the trailer.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeh.

Just like TFA, it just doesn't feel like SW.

Hmmmmm... Not sure exactly what you want to make it feel like Star Wars.

Wide eyed innocence via Luke Skywalker?

A cantina band?

Dated scene transitions?

For me, TFA had 75% of that Star Wars feel. It wasn't totally there, but almost. Don't ask me to quantify it, it's just how it "felt" to me. I'd say, from what I've seen so far, that Rogue One is a bit closer, but really it's too early to judge.

I think this actually looks better than TFA.

It's got the necessary OT classic vibe going for it but with a polish of fresh.

The problem is that it does not look fun. It's 100% grim. No one has any charisma or charm.

Some of the new designs have that pulpy Mcquarrie vibe that I look for in Star Wars stuff, I give you that, but most look like videogame/generic sci-fi TV character designs that don't fit with the Star Wars look, hell the ATATs don't look right, but that may be the angle.

The teaser captured the feel much better, so I'm gonna wait, maybe it's just this trailer that's not doing it for me, because the teaser did get me excited.

That shot of the Death Star eclipsing the sun was cheesy as ****.

TFA didn't even feel like SW at all, it felt like cheap, shallow fanfic made by and for millennials, the whole thing is like a Chinese Star Wars knock off.

At least the prequels felt like Star Wars in their designs, characters and stories, even with the garbage scripts and directing.

The now dead EU felt more like Star Wars than these 2 new movies, I'm starting to think Lucas selling it all was a mistake, so far I'm not seeing anything that was worth sacrificing the EU for.

No one has any charisma or charm.
Yeah, this too.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

DC has a movie if you want charismatic characters on a suicide mission. I just want a movie that makes me feel like I'm in a galaxy far far away, with palm trees.:)

I didn't think they felt like Star Wars. Phantom menace did - in parts :dunno The others..ehhhh. Certainly not more than TFA.

They definitely did, they achieved that look of prosperity when the republic still existed, most of the character designs fit perfectly as do the stories.

TFA? Nothing, sure a plethora of visual cues, mostly put in as nostalgia triggers than actually trying to achieve the look, because the overall art design of TFA and its slight tweaks, like making the FO look like the Empire but not quite, make TFA look more alien to the franchise than anything in the PT.

The PT may be poorly executed, but the hell it doesn't look and feel more like true SW than, to quote Riddick, the Farce Awakens.
