Why would you feel sorry? Its comedy gold and exactly what they deserve for putting blind faith in a false prophet. They don't even know the religion in which they believe literally, its hilarious. These are not mentally handicapped people, they have fully functioning brains. They told the rest of us we were going to burn in hell, told their own children, they deserve no pity.

But why his claim to knowledge, and not someone else's? Surely there are more armeggedon peddlers out there. What makes one version more reasonable than another?

You can decide that based on your complete lack of meteorological knowledge of atmospheric physics that it's good to drive a hybrid. Or you can decide that blowing yourself up at an Israeli bustop is the way. What is it that makes them decide that this moment is the one true apocalypse, and that they are in the right? Is it just the need to be right and the style of the lie fits their particular neurosis?

I'd like to know how they manage to get past the deception. It seems so obvious that they're evading reality.

I can't explain why people do what they do. I can't explain people that kill and rape children for example. I can't explain why people have certain beliefs as well.

The explaining deception part is a bit easier to explain. Humans I believ are followers as a whole. Some follow the bible, some follow cult leaders, ect. For me? I make up my own mind and follow no one. Been working so far and I feel great.
